  1. I put a 200-4R in my 69 Sport Wagon ,and am happy as a clam ! with this set =up it pulls 20MPG with the AC blasting. A 4 speed would be fun ,but for trips , I like my set=up
  2. It takes 1 gallon of petroleum fuel to make 1.3 gallons of Ethanol. Ethanol is less efficient that petroleum fuel so really we are not gaining a thing. The only thing happening is we are raising the price of everything made with corn products. There is a HUGE wind farm being built in Texas, and they employ 300 people to erect them. The fact that they employ 2,000 chinese to manufacture them is swept under the table.
  3. Adam My wife loves her Rendezvous, but unless Buick comes up with another small crossover I will need to get her something else. The Enclave is just too big for her tastes.
  4. Dave HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! I hope everything goes well for you now that you are getting OLDER :):)
  5. Don I would like to second your nomination !! You are absolutely right !! Bruce and Shar Kile do more for the BCA than most people can even fathom. Most of the kudos here are going to members that help individual members, and they are all deserving of the award. Bruce and Shar do more to promote the BCA and the club as a whole than any group you can name. They have been at the forefront or lurking in the background ( with assistance ) of almost every tour run by the BDE. They are the driving force behind the after tours from the nationals
  6. Happy Birthday Willie !! I wish you many more
  7. I guess I am the only guy out here that remembers goinng to a drive -in movie and chasing a ball on the screen during intermission . I had a couple of cars in my teens with dual spots, and my 40 convert has them now. I don't use them much, but I think they look COOL !
  8. The hole was bored after the bell housing was mounted to the block. You can use another bell housing if you pull the dowels and readjust the bell housing to ZERO on an indicator. Then use a tapered dowel pin reamer and reset the housing.
  9. Do not forget that the bell housing hole for the trans was bored after the housing was mounted on the engine to make sure that it was properly aligned, If you use another bell housing , chack to make sure that hole is concentric with the crank . if it is not ,you will have a trans that will kick out of gear when you decellerate.
  10. Why all the emphasis on awards ???? I gave most of my trophies from drag racing to the Boy Scouts to rebadge and give to the kids !! Just come to the meet and snjoy each other. You might just learn what this hobby is about, and it is NOT trophies.
  11. I have been involved with the BCA for a LOOOOONG time, and have watched it evolve into what I feel is an elitest group. The first BCA national meets had people coming from all over and just enjoying their Buicks. The 400 point system came into being 30 years ago,and although many good people tried to make it work , it really never has @!!! The high dollar restorations are looked on as the standard, and that is WRONG !! Buicks in the early years ahd poor door fits and bad paint from the factory ,and do NOT fit into the 400 point system ! Judges try hard ,but there are too many that still "kill the car" The driven class tried to rectify many of the problems that were arising, but when wheels and alternators were looked donwn on, there were many that just said " the He@@ with it " I am not sure what the answer is , but I am afraid that until the BCA goes back to the "having fun " days and they realize that $50 dues and expensive banquets ,are not the answer, you will continue to lose membership. I wish you good luck and hope it gets resolved Joe Taubitz BCA 1308 --- BDE 001 -- BMD 004
  12. Dave White Post did mine 20 years ago, and they are still working fine.
  13. Bill It is VERY evident that Kylie takes after her Mother !! She is a beauty, and you are a lucky man . Heppy New Year JT
  14. keith I have 6 children and bought and sold cars to allow me to enjoy my hobby. In actuality it is only just ove 2 a year
  15. I have a complete collection of Bugles from 1966, and hopefully when I leave this world, my chilldren will donate them to the Sloan Museum or the heritage foundation. i still enjoy perusing the old ones and seeing the changes through the years
  16. I have owned 196 cars through the years. The list is in the garage, and I do not type good enough to post them all. . It is also too cold to go out and get it. They were predominatly Buicks, but I did have some different marques. ( Kaiser-Chrysler-AMC-Pontiac-Chevrolet-Morris-Ford-Lincoln-Cadillac-Oldsmobile-Dodge-)
  17. Well said Dan !! I especially like the last statemant
  18. My first car was a 1931 Buick 4 door model 57 that I bought, with most of the engine in the back seat. I put it together and drove it for a year. I then bought a 37 Century side mounted slant back 4 door model 67 and drove it until my senior year. By then it had a 42 dual carb set up and dual straight pipes. I passed my Dad at 105 MPH, and he picked my next car. It was a 39 Pontiac 6 and although it probobly kept me alive, was not nearly as much fun to drive.
  19. Drain the grease from the rear end, pull the inspection cover and take the spacer from between the axles. Then you can push the axle in far enough to remove the "C" clip that holds the axle i.
  20. Roberta replaces Roger Tyyska as director on Jauuary first, 2010. We are blessed to have her take up where Roger left off. Most chapters are not as fortunate as the Buicktown chapter as we have tremendous depth when it comes to capable people !!
  21. Greg I can tell that you and I have a LOT in common. I have been a member of the BCA for 40+ years and have tried to promote the organization , but when push comes to shove , I have finally thrown in the towel. I have no doubt that the BOD has the best interests of the BCA at heart, but they have different priorities then I do. The BCA was originally a group of people that enjoyed old cars. It has evolved into a group of people that feel that ( in my opinion ) cars are not to drive and enjoy, but works of art ! I will continue to drive my Buicks and enjoy them and I hope the BCA eventually finds its way. I helped start the BDE, and will enjoy this group as long as this old body will let me.
  22. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all the great Buick people I have met through the years. I hope the new year brings you health and happiness. Joe Taubitz
  23. The dues were raised to $50 at the membership meeting in Colorado. When they went from $35 to $40 they gave the members a chance to pay ahead. This time ,I guess they felt that that was not nesccessary. my dues are paid through 2012 and then they will lose another another LOOONG time member
  24. Jake That IS the problem. The 400 point judging! I have lived in Flint all my life (76 years ) get upset. and when I see someone on the field get knocked down for door fits or paint that was FAR superior to what was done st the factory ,I get upset. I realize that our major problem is not having enough "qualified " judges, but using the system once a year will not allow a good enough learning curve. I have seen people judging that haven't a clue what they should be seeing. I applaud them for stepping up but until we have a better training system, the system will not work. The chief judge tells them repeatedly " don't kill the car" but some judges do.
