  1. Do you view all “fakes” as the same. Clearly a replacement body fabricated in the 1960-1990s is one category. (which appears to be the case in the car that started this thread). Another category is taking a 1938-1940 Cadillac series 75 convertible coupe body and placing it on a 1938-1940 Cadillac v-16 chassis. Or putting a super 8 Packard body on a Packard v12 chassis of the same year. I don’t love the idea of either but a body not fabricated by the mark is much worse than a period body. Or do you consider all equally bad.

  3. To me, those were all failures. Honda and Toyota ate their lunch in the small car market from the late seventies on wards. I would argue that the only successes over the last 40 years were full sized trucks and full sized suvs. And the c7 and c8 corvette. All else has really been a failure.
  4. Do you know if this is consider one of the 36, or so, “factory supercharged” cars. Or is it only considered a factory sj when it first leaves the factory? I love it and my only change would have been to ordered it with the long wheelbase chassis.
  5. I do think all clubs can be a little hard to join. I was told once to give someone three chances to show you who they really are. I think that goes for clubs as well. I once had someone with a collection that you could put against any one in the world complain that cutting off the year of a car allowed to enter the show was a mistake. He said that people always “collect down.” Ie they start with one year and get interested in the older cars. His point was to be inclusive as you never know who the next person who feeds the hobby and the clubs will be.
  6. Is that the ultimate 540k special roadster? Long tail covered spare?
  7. Will the bid end higher or lower then on BAT? https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1937-cadillac-other
  8. You must prefer the previous top color: https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/sj12/st--john-s/lots/r105-1930-duesenberg-model-sj-convertible-victoria-by-the-rollston-company/280634 It will be interesting to see how the v16 convertible coupe at Mecum does compared with the 32 v16 that started this thread. I have always wondered if a non-Leather interior in an open car is a negative, as far as value.
  9. There are guys that broker cars. Ie, the see a car listing. Copy it. Add 20-50 percent to the price. If they get a bite , they negotiate the deal between the buyer and seller. I am pretty sure that is what this guy does. He used to have 1000s of adds when it was free on Craigslist. search this forum: classic car deals, Cadillac Michigan
  10. That is no longer the case with new diesel trucks. The DPF and EGR re-introduce the particulates back into the engine and really gunk up the engine . And it is major money to fix. Most people delete not for power gains but to prevent replacement of these and other parts caused from the reintroduction of these particulates into the engine. This is an informative podcast on where we are an when this started.
  11. The issue is that many modern performance cars are being modified with parts for “off road” use and then the shops watch the customer drive off with their lambo or mustang down the street. Both parties have a legal issue in this case. It is just easier for the epa to go after the shop. The owner still has an issue, if caught. Most “delete” a diesel for reliability. You can easily spend 20k on a modern diesel fixing the epa controls at around 120-150k miles That is why lb5, lbzs and 7.3s are at a premium. the diesel shops have been raided over the last few years and so have the performance shops. Ie this is something that has been going on before 2021. Not that new.
  12. I might think it is a good idea (adding lower priced cars) if it would add members to the club. It won’t. There are already great cars that are accepted by the CCCA that are sub $40k. A senior 1941 60 special just sold for $35k. From my standpoint it won’t add any members. How many members have only a Chrysler Town and Country? Ie, allowing the Town and County in caused them to join. My guess: very few. It only allows members who own the cars already to bring them to events. That does not seem to cure their problem of lower membership. Here is an idea: comb through the ccca eligible cars in the Buick club, Cadillac club, ACD club, Packard club , Lincoln clubs, etc and send the owners who are not CCCA members of these cars a free 6 month membership, starting in March. Then have the regions invite these new members to their events throughout the summer. But that takes work and effort. It is much easier to let in 120 Packards or Oldsmobiles and cross your fingers that the owners will join.
  13. I think it would be closer to $40k. https://www.premiercustomtrailers.com/bravo-32-stp-enclosed-race-trailer-w-triple-6000-axles-Seyj|cO.html
  14. That 812 GTS might be the last naturally aspirated v12 Ferrari convertible. A successor to the 275 NART spyder and the California spyder. These are the cars , 50 years from now, that will be collected. They are the Js, SJs and SJNs, the 8Cs, the 851 speeders, the 734s, etc., of our time. some really great cars have come out of the last 15 years.
  15. Love it. Just paint the grill surround and you are good to go.
  16. https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1131704_blackhawk-collection-confirms-sale-of-bugatti-royale Interesting that it went to the EU.
  17. Two different buyers. One a traditional car guy who cares about history and provenance. Attends Concourse events and probably belongs to at least one car club. The other cares about pop culture and telling people about the movie and who sat in the car. Probably never been to a concourse event and is not a member of the RROC. neither understand each other’s motivations. I would take this one for about half the price: https://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1929-rolls-royce-phantom-i-ascot-tourer-4/
  18. I prefer the Rollston Victoria. And not really a fan of the JNs. (Ducks his head). But, my guess is hammer of 1.6 with a 12 percent commission because it is a phone bidder (it’s a 10 percent commission for live bidders).
  19. Do you like it with or without the skirts?
  20. Small point. The 36 70 series and 75 series had the one year only block 348. 37 blocks show up occasionally. I believe that this is the v16 you are referring to. It was owned, at that time , 2018, by a gentleman from NY.
  21. The 34 v16 with later year bumpers belongs to Academy of Art University collection. Mecum has previously sold many of their cars.
