How to wisely bid at a Mecum auction?
Cadillac Fan replied to Hemi Joel's topic in General Discussion
Congratulations! Amazing car. -
1927 Lasalle roadster, not mine.
Cadillac Fan replied to Xander Wildeisen's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
1927 is the first year for LaSalle, and for a major league Cadillac collector it might be worth the price. If it is a 27 and not a 28. Not too much difference between $430k and $410k three years from now and you get to choose a Harley Earl color scheme on the car that made him. -
Auburn 12 Salon Speedster

I figured that into my 1.4 hammer. 1.55 for the car and $500k to make it to pebble beach. Maybe I am light. -
Auburn 12 Salon Speedster
Cadillac Fan replied to Cadillac Fan's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
At first, I thought the Mecum car was this one. https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo23/lots/r0085-1934-auburn-twelve-salon-speedster/ But it is not and they (Mecum) claim it is “real.” RM sold a non salon v12 speedster for $1.2 million in 2013. https://rmsothebys.com/auctions/ny13/lots/r109-1933-auburn-twelve-custom-speedster/photos worldwide auctioneers has a non salon V12 speedster for sale in their Labor Day auction. https://listings.worldwideauctioneers.com/product/1932-auburn-12-160a-boattail-speedster/ Any guesses on the Mecum car? Assuming it is real, hammer $1.4 million -

I would value it similar to this 41-62 convertible sedan that Mecum just sold for $40,700. (Dealer now asking $59k). https://www.mecum.com/lots/1110241/1941-cadillac-series-62-convertible-sedan/?aa_id=540087-0 The 38-65 is a rarer car but I don’t think that makes much difference in 2024. If you like the car, offer $40k. It may take a few months but I bet you own the car before the fall.

It will cost you over $100,000 to send it to someone qualified to restore it. You will be able to sell it for $18,000-24,000 once it is completed. If you also received a seven figure plus inheritance, and this car is a family heirloom, and you are passionate about pre war cars, then I would do it. if not I would sell it.

Is a dual master cylinder available for 1957 Cadillacs?
Cadillac Fan replied to John_S_in_Penna's topic in Cadillac & LaSalle
https://forums.cadillaclasalleclub.org/index.php?topic=171409.0 I have converted a 1960 to a dual master cylinder (from a 1966 drum brake car) in the process outlined in the link above. Not sure why it wouldn’t work for 1957. -
I agree. No one wants to lose their shirt on a restoration that takes 2-4 years for a pre war production car. And the collector car market is shifting. New money (people in their 20s-50s) are not into prewar cars. They may develop an interest later in their life depending upon their financial situation. The future is sports cars from the 1950s-through the 2010s. European and JDM. The major-major-league pre war cars will continue but a Lamborghini Diablo won a class award at Pebble Beach this past weekend. No one would believe that 5 years ago.

1934 v16 coupe. Pictures of the same car. Imagine a black one right next to it. -
Lost brakes, almost crashed the Cord!
Cadillac Fan replied to Hemi Joel's topic in General Discussion
Some Cadillac guys are using this ( they make a bracket to fit this to the original holes). 1938-47. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/WIL-260-7563 I am normally a purest, but after having a similar event in a single circuit break system, I converted to a dual circuit master cylinder.
