  1. Not familiar with Marmoleum. But I have done more than my share of linoleum installations. Hope to never have to do that again! Not really that bad though I suppose compared to a lot of things. 'Battleship' linoleum as it comes to my mind is a very heavy rubbery, vinyl type flooring with a burlap like core, it may have linseed oil associated with it somehow? I think (well before my time) that it was used on Battleships as a durable floor covering? Hence the name. No way it compares to modern linoleum other than the name. I have a customer with an 18th century house that has an entire bedroom wing with the stuff as a floor covering. He wanted to replace it but I talked them out of it just because. Its ugly brown but more durable than a lot of things.
  2. I keep seeing this thread coming back up and kept thinking to myself, I hope the next time I see this thread pop up CChinn has announced he bought this car! Congrats, glad things worked out for you. As for the whitewalls, this is def. a car that should be sporting them. Now we need to see some pics in the great day for a ride thread!
  3. I can understand it getting out of the hands of Ford, lots of concept and show cars were released one way or the other, I think some were sent to the scarp yard. I dont think they were viewed as something extra special and 'museum' worthy when they were built just another concept of what ifs. Although they may be interested in something like that now. Maybe the asking price is too high for them or it just isnt what it is purported to be. Lots of cars have created history thats gets blended in and the truth gets lost over time and multiple owners.
  4. I doubt any floor covering shop will even know what battleship linoleum is! They may not even know what plane ole linoleum is? I wasnt aware this stuff needed to be waxed but I would think any kind of a carnuba would work if you are currently using Johnson. I had no idea they stopped making that. I have a couple of cans guess I need to hold it tight.
  5. I think the idea of an experimental car is cool, but my first thought when seeing this was authenticity. If Ford was wanting a 3 window coupe would they wait until nearing the end of the model run to 'experiment'? In comparing the differences between a '32 3 and 5 window car it looks like the door itself is wider on a 3 window? I may be wrong and it may just be my perception. But this looks like someone welded in a panel over the back side window. It does not have the same flow as a later model 3 window car imo. Then again may just be a bad picture angle?
  6. Very nicely styled car. Most will say its a parts car at best. I dont know the production number of these but I am sure its much lower than a 57 chevy. Saying its a parts car is also saying there are others out there that are restoring one of these. I doubt that is a hot market right now. Like mentioned sitting in the ground I would hate to think what the bottom of this one looks like. I think a 2500. price would get it moving to the right person.
  7. I do not speed excessively. By that I mean that I will drive 50 in a 45, 70 on a 65 interstate etc. But driving like a maniac on backroads is just not my thing. Speed cameras in MD are not owned by the state. They are owned by private contractors with the state only getting a percentage of the revenue. That to me is the bad part. My small town had them at one time and part of the contract was that the company even bought a new police cruiser for the chief. Sorry, but I think there are some wrong things going with acts like that. Good or bad I dont know. I think the reason is probably a good thing the reality is about graft and corruption!
  8. I would have to agree with both Terry and Steve. I know Steve has a Packard and a sign like this cleaned up and detailed a bit would make a great addition to his garage! IF I had a vintage Packard I probably would spend the money. After all, when was the last time you saw one for sale. On the other hand, I DO NOT have a Packard and like Terry said, it IS rough, and $500 is a lot for a cool piece of man cave art that I have little connection to. Personally I would pass on it. Now, if it was a Pontiac sign..............................
  9. Just the spare tire bulge? I would bet one could find a better example WITH the top as the factory intended for a better price. Take about 10k off the asking and it might sell.
  10. It amazes me the cars I see restored and original body bushings left in place. Fortunately they are a bit easier on a f body but still a pain. Def worth the effort in the long run though.
  11. Fordy, Well said and hard to follow. I will digress with a slight hiccup. Saw this at a cars n coffee the other day. 20240421_082935 by Kerry Grubb, on FlickrLANQB]20240421_082926[/url] by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr I got a bit of a chuckle. This is the first Pinto I have seen on the road in a long time. Original condition and very nice. I grew up with them in the family, first car I ever drove legally on the road. My brother in law landed a good job after he graduated hs. In 1972 he bought a brand new Gran Torino and a Pinto. Torino was his date night car Pinto was a daily driver. He drove that pinto for a couple hundred thousand miles. My sister got a Pinto around 1974, the car I learned to drive in. It was a really good car as well. In 1982 I bought the Gran Torino from him with just a little under 10k miles. One of those cars I wish I had back. Back to the regular scheduled program.
  12. Neat pics. That barn is kinda like belt and suspenders. Overhead and carriage doors at the same opening!
  13. If we ever meet up you guys are welcome to take it out for a spin!
  14. Seems funny to me how many 'race' cars there are to be found in Argentina?
  15. I really like this era of auto, and maybe someday I will own one. This looks like a really nice car but I suppose I will say the emperor has no clothes! The upright windshield looks off to me, as well as the doors look too stubby for the proportions of the car. To me it looks like a model A on steroids. Dont get me wrong, I would take ownership in a heartbeat if the opportunity was there.
  16. Good part its a '33. I think a 3 window may be a bit more desirable? A cool old hot rod? I agree if it was built in the day that adds to the story, maybe not so much on the price as it still needs about everything. Is it worth 28k? Not to me but I bet it will sell close to that.
  17. Looking good. There is a way to prevent water. Sounds like your contractor is on the right track. In the commercial building world we would use a drainage system that put a primer on the wall, then a moisture barrier that was similar to roofing ice shield only about 5 times thicker. It would come in 4 ft rolls that glued to the primer. The seams were all sealed as well. Then a corrugated drain board (actually another roll of material) would go on. Backfilled with a gravel to allow drainage and a series of drain pipes connected. Never had a water problem! After putting these systems in I laugh at tar foundation coating!
  18. One doesnt need 20 acres and a 30,ooo sf shop to restore a car! I restored my car in the space of a one car garage. Yes I will add at the time I had a 3 car garage but the space was limited to one bay. My wife will not tolerate her car setting outside, it has not done so in almost 40 yrs. I did a rotisserie restore, and painted in that small space. Now the car is parked in that bay. So a one car garage bay will suffice. I know people that have restored cars with less!
  19. Welcome to the site. I know nothing about vw's but I like the looks of what you have done with yours. Much better than stock in my opinion. Value, no idea on the 'newer' models. If they ever start getting stupid prices like the brazilian samba buses I know where there are about a dozen of them parked! Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it.
  20. 20240421_075255 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr Sat was actually better, sunny and warm. This pic was taken yesterday on the way to cars n coffee. Nice blue sky but turned cloudy and high was about 45 so a bit chilly. Even so, beats having to work for a living!
  21. Looks like a fun day. I hope someone brought Timmy Horton's!
  22. Thanks for posting pics. Looks like a bit classier than the car events I attended this weekend, LOL.
  23. I believe the model is called 'The Bot' !! Another one strikes again.
  24. I think the waterproof floor would hold up fine, BUT I am not sure that the uneven pressure from being driven on would not open the joints. I have been very tempted to put some down as a test just to see how it would react. Another thought I had was to put up a runner for the tires on top of the laminate to help spread the weight. I may get to it one day, I will let you know what I find out.
