  1. I like the look of the race deck. Like AJ, its been awhile since I have looked at their stuff. The one thing I dont like is that with the placement of square tiles the joints are all aligned. A small nitpick but from a floor installers point of view it looks odd. We do a lot of laminate flooring and I have been very tempted to put some of the water proof flooring in my garage. I thought I would be the only guy with a wood floor in the garage (to match the wainscoting and crown molding), but alas I see you have beat me to it! As a comparison the water proof laminate can be purchased for about $3. a foot.
  2. I have a sister in law from Tenn. Years ago talking with her brother that was an excavation contractor, he made the comment that they did not dig holes, they blasted them!
  3. What M Man said. I know ziltch about these cars other than I think they are fantastically styled, great looking cars. I was talking with an owner of one at Hershey. By the looks of that car it may be the best one on the planet! He was telling me of all the special quirks (all good things) with this particular model. Everything seemed to be special to this one car. Sounded like a nightmare to restore to me, not for the faint of heart. If you get it GOOD LUCK!
  4. I humbly apologize for my rudeness. So many one and doners, not to mention the bots getting smarter. Now that I know youre a real human, I will give my 2c for what its worth. Evaporust does wonders. I have a small Milwaukee cordless angle die grinder. I use a rolocs on it from coarse to fine depending on corrosion. This thing is my new go to. It works miracles cleaning oxidized metal. 20240406_172628 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr Before20240409_083058 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr After an evaporust soak. This is just with a wash down no real clean up. Once I hit it with my roloc it looked almost new again. 20240403_183420 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr 20240403_185352 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr The exhaust is not really a good example as they are stainless but had a coating of who knows what on them. In the first pic you can barely see my little miracle maker. IF it looks too bad after clean up then yes, I would hit with some high temp silver paint.
  5. And its probably a good thing. A lot cheaper to maintain and probably more reliable.
  6. With a good title, it doesnt look too bad. I would take a chance for that price.
  7. The fuelies get top money, this one may be priced at 'retail'. Seller should be happy to get anything over 70K
  8. Theres a first aid kit in my ML as well. Never been opened. More manufacturers should put them in their cars!
  9. Yikes! That is a buzzkill. When I was a kid, the neighbors dad took us fishing to the local lake. Guy was backing his boat down the ramp with a 65/66 mustang. As soon as he hit the wet spot the wheels started spinning. The car was up to the back window trunk completely submerged by the time my friends dad ran over to help. He was a big, athletic type of a guy and managed to push it back up the ramp with the driver furiously spinning the tires.
  10. Def dont see a lot of these anymore. I had a good friend that bought the first gen one of these, his was the 'Shelby blue and white'. Great car for the time. It was super fast as well. He was always wanting to race me in my 82 firebird. My car looked fast but with a v6 had a hard time passing anything but a gas station. I would prefer the earlier model in blue without the lift up headlights but this one wouldnt be too bad. Looks like something is going on with the dash? I think these do have a bit of a following, albeit maybe small? The Omni GLH (goes like hell) is another one in the same category as this car.
  11. I was kinda thinking that the parts in jars may not be uncommon. Yes, in a perfect world glass doesnt make sense as far as dropping and breaking and 'creating a hazard'. But I have seen pics from that era with guys spray painting cars with a bandanna wrapped around their face. I am sure they were aware of being safe however I doubt they were as overly protective (and coddled) as we are now accustomed to.
  12. My wife loves auctions but I try to keep her away. She makes up her mind that she has to have something and WILL NOT be underbid. Wrong attitude to have at an auction. We have a local auction house in town that does a lot of estate sales. Buying from them is pretty easy and because its 5 minutes away shipping is not a problem. The last item I put a low bid on just because was for a bottle of Dom Perignon. Little did I think I would win but I did. AND I dont drink!!! Still sitting in a cool dark place. IF the internet has any merit according to prices at this point it would sell for about 5x what I paid. Last I looked empty bottles and boxes sell for more than what I paid.
  13. Took the heater box out tonight. Actually a blessing in disguise. It was a mess. Rodent home, rust and dirt. Cleaned, painted some parts and did some derusting. Had to re do a vacuum port/switch thingy to get it working, the one line leading to it was crapped out so I changed that as well. Core supposed to be here thurs. hoping to get it buttoned back up over the weekend. 20240409_164312 by 20240409_165226 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickrhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/156399515@N07/]Kerry Grubb[/url], on Flickr20240409_165235 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr 20240409_172515 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr 20240409_180316 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr 20240409_182020 by Kerry Grubb, on Flickr
  14. My HS band director was quite the character. Very entertaining and quirky fellow. He always drove a used beat up squareback VW. He also had VW wagon. He would tell stories of his younger years when he owned one of these. First time I had ever heard of them. I think years went by before I had even seen one, but the tales he told left a good impression. Every time I see one I think of him.
  15. My first vehicle was a '65 f100. Had a vette motor transplanted w/4 speed. Fun truck, but it still drove like a truck. Around the same time dad a '67 f100 work truck. 3 on the column, big motor. It too drove like a truck. I started working construction when I was 15 so have driven a lot of trucks, mostly Fords. Until about '96 (first one I had that was car like) they were all just trucks. Nothing special. Having used them as a tool rather than a conveyance I dont understand the allure that people have of 60's-80's pickup trucks.
  16. I was just trying to be a smart%&^%&^% after the long winded convo about the motor lift. I have no problem at all with what you did, I would most likely have done the same. As for my ML, it runs perfect for about 5 minutes then everything goes wonky. Pull over, turn off and start again and it runs fine. My wife was driving it like this for months without me knowing anything about it. I was driving it one day and it happened to me. She coached me through it. The next day I gave her my spare work truck (expedition) to start driving and parked the benz. I went to a ML oriented forum and it seemed to be a common problem that no one had a fix for. Lots of conjecture but nothing real. The shame is, the motor runs strong, the rest of the car is great but its been relegated to barn find for the last few years.
  17. Craft store may have what you need for the door cards, but I bought some specifically for that purpose. Its a pretty heavy cardboard material. I opted for new panels before I got too deep into the project. I have some in the shop your welcome to but the shipping cost would most likely be prohibitive. IF you can pm some rough dimension I can cut them down and possibly save a lot on shipping. Again, you are welcome to them if you want to give it a try.
  18. Dont you know that your not supposed to put straps like that to lift an engine! (JK, sorry couldnt help myself). Good luck with the motor swap. I have always liked the slc's but not enough to dive into one. I have an ML that has computer problems that will make a good project when youre done with this one. And its almost an AACA car.
  19. I think you are correct! After looking back at it I can see it now. Maybe its time to get a new pair of glasses, LOL.
  20. Earthquake on Friday, Sun going dark on Monday, what will they think of next?
  21. Is that a red chevron at the top left of the shelf?
  22. The problem with a 'built' car is that after it has passed through a couple of owners it has become a legit early speedster.
  23. I am at the 70% range. Did not hardly get dark at all. My grandson had a pair of glasses so we took turns. It was actually pretty cool looking. A reverse crescent moon, only it was the sun that was the crescent.
