  1. It may have 88 ground pounding horses as you say but at least my 29 is a real one. LOL. No, really some of the Shays look fairly good.
  2. My opinion only, if you are really interested in the car, pay for a professional appraisal. It can save you a ton of money in the long run. They will also tell you of things that you may not have seen. The $40000. seems about right if the car is in very good condition. No matter what you spend make sure it is what you want. You most likely won't get your money back out of it, but who knows. The collector car market is always in a up and down cycle. If you buy, post pics for us to see. We love all kinds of cars and trucks. Good luck....
  3. Wow, there is a lot of opinions here on this subject. I don't think many if any of us on here obtained any of our cars, trucks, or whatever we are into thinking it was going to be our "golden ticket" in retirement. My plan is to give my sons my cars whenever they want them. Don't really care what the value is. I once heard a classic was only worth what someone was willing to pay for it and I for one believe it will always be that way. I do wish more people were into this hobby though. We have a local drive in restaurant that still holds weekly car shows. although, there aren't as many cars as used to be. Thanks for listening.
  4. Sewitter, I hope this post does not run you away from the hobby. Everyone that replied had some great advise. These (kit) cars are everywhere here in North Carolina and they are built with either Volkswagon platforms or Ford Pinto platforms. Some of these cars look great but, as others have said, you will not likely get your money back if and when you decided to sell. I personally am glad you decided to go with the MG.. They look similar but in the long run you will be much happier with the MG. Continue to ask these old guys and gals for their help and you won't go wrong. Good luck with you hunt.
  5. Just a thought, we have several Community colleges around here that have an auto body programs. They will and do take cars that need work and will do the work for just the amount of supplies needed. Honestly, they do really good work. Is that an option for you?
  6. Had a great fourth today. I was able to drive both my '29 Model A and my '73 Corvette. Love them both equally but differently.
  7. Paul Dobbin, not likely but I do get distracted quite a bit while driving. 60Flattop, love to play pinball, but, I'm no wizard. Steve_Mack_CT, I love it, If I sat in that car, I would fully understand. Dustycrusty, sounds like a beautiful ride. JamesR, right up my ally, LOL ! Happy Fourth to all. Don't ever forget why.
  8. 54vicky, just looked in this months Hemmings catalog and couldn't find anything specifically about interior kits for jeeps but, this site may help your friend or at least know who can. Go to www.cbjeep.com. Hope it helps. I know how hard it is finding those hard to find parts.
  9. If you and I met for the first time and I told you that I was blind from birth, how would you describe your favorite old car/truck in fifteen (15 ) words or less. Remember I've been blind from birth. I truly hope I don't offend anyone, I just would like to know how you feel about your garage baby. I will start. Me to you: Driving it is like the sun shining on your face @ a constant 72 degrees.
  10. Hard telling what someone had in mind when they made that thing. I first thought it was made to flush the motor but someone really went the long way with that one.
  11. Back in the late 60s to late 80s my dad owned a gulf station. It was a young fellers dream being around all those cars. Anyway there was a guy that owned a used car lot in town that hung around the station all the time. One day he came in with a 70 Ford Torino with the cobra jet engine and it too had a 4 speed and a shaker hood. I was in love. But, my dad wouldn't let me buy it even though I had saved enough money. This car has followed me my whole life in my head. Not sure I would still own it today but, nice ones are going for close to 80k now. Later I had a 66 Chevelle SS it had a true L88-427 engine that we had built to around 600 hp. A 4 speed car with a 456 gear underneath. I had access to all the gas that big boy could consume. (LOL). I let this one get away and have beat myself up everyday since. I guess we all thought those cars would be available forever.
  12. MochetVelo, great video even if it wasn't you.
  13. I'm fairly new to this site. When I came here I had a tremendous amount of questions that I thought I already knew the answers to. I asked my question and although I got great advice from many great members, there was a few that seemed to be smart-mouths. I just passed by those few because I know they are everywhere. I can understand the frustration this feller must have felt. I love these forums because of the great amount of knowledge you guys and gals offer. This sport/hobby IS going away partly because a large amount of the people who want to be in this hobby don't know a lot about cars and trucks and frankly don't know who to ask. Please do the hobby/sport a favor and think about how your message may sound to others before you post. If I ask something that's not appropriate, just tell me where I should look and why. Thanks again to all who make forums like this great ! Robert
  14. Flyer15015, I'm going to make your day. Go to O'reillys auto parts website and do a search for part number 121G. They have the FLUX Capacitor you are looking for. Now good luck. See you in the future. LOL.
  15. If I'm not mistaken, the fuel pump on your Buick should be a mechanical one. It's located on the front passenger side of the motor. Unless you are talking about the fuel gauge unit. Then, my friend you will need to drop the tank.
  16. My advice for what it's worth, Like so many before me said, HAVE FUN above all else. That way you are more likely to stick with it. Also no matter how much you know or not, there is always someone willing to help. Just a few keystrokes away. Good luck.
  17. The State of North Carolina did away with smog testing this past year. They still require a safety inspection though. Unless, the vehicle is 35 years old or older. Funny, that's the vehicles that really need a safety inspection. ( Some but not all ).
  18. "You mean the middle pedal is for the brakes?" LOL
  19. Also, sometimes they will send you a text message telling you to send them back the code that they sent you (just to be sure you are real). DONT ever send that code back. It opens the data on your phone and they can access all your information including passwords. On our Craigslist here, the ad shows new cars or trailers and even those that are only a year old or less, asking only a few hundred because they need the money bad. The ads always seems too cheap. Don't understand that one yet.
  20. Buick35, the reason car prices can't be reasonable is because of the clowns with too much money and obviously ( some sort of complex). Spending millions of dollars on regular classic cars is ridiculous . And as always, money drives the market.
  21. Welcome TAKerry, I'm also a fairly new member to this forum. I've asked a few questions and have had tons of great advice from some really good members. (Both men and women). I will be on the lookout for some pics of those Pontiacs.
  22. Not trying to offend anyone here but, even that camper makes the Edsel look better.
  23. You know Terry B, in my opinion, this is what's wrong with todays youth. Not many want to actually work for something everybody wants everything given to them. I've been in that picture many times. Those times were the best in my life.
  24. Jetsmooth61, sorry to hear you are having troubles. I have purchased many items from Rock Auto and have had nothing but good dealings with them. I would say their web site is kind of hard to navigate. I don't have any interest with Rock Auto and I will say I always use a credit card on any site that wont accept PayPal. I know their are many who don't like PayPal but believe me, your interest is their top priority. Hope you get things worked out.
