  1. I think AAA is a better bet because, at least where I am, they have their own fleet of trucks -- so there's no midnight negotiations with independent haulers!
  2. Kosage - have you seen this...? http://forums.aaca.org/topic/286099-55-super-ac-car/
  3. Well, that's good to know. Here in NY there does not appear to be any way to register a vehicle without a clear proof of ownership in the form of a title or transferable registration: Cars, Trucks, and Motorcycles Model year 1973 or newer The acceptable proof of ownership is either a NYS Certificate of Title – must be the original or a certified copy, not a photocopy 1 acceptable proof from another state - must be the original or a certified copy, not a photocopy 2 To transfer ownership the seller whose name appears on the proof of ownership must sign the transfer section of the proof of ownership and provide a bill of sale if the seller has a title certificate that was transferred to them by another person, the seller cannot use that title certificate to transfer the ownership the seller must apply for a title certificate only and transfer the new title certificate the buyer's name must be on the title certificate if the vehicle is 10 model years old or newer, the seller must complete the Odometer Disclosure Statement on the back of the title certificate if the vehicle is 8 model years old or newer, the seller must complete the Damage Disclosure Statement on the back of the NYS title certificate make sure that the information listed on the title certificate is not altered, erased or changed 3 Model year 1972 or older The acceptable proof of ownership is either a NYS Transferable Registration – must be the original or a certified copy, not photocopy acceptable proof from another state 4 To transfer ownership the owner can use the transferable registration and a bill of sale make sure the registration document is marked "transferable" on the front the seller whose name appears on the transferable registration must sign the back It doesn't look to me as though even a NY salvage title could be created without similar proof of ownership.
  4. Well, I was only 8 years old in '66 and our driveway must have been 120 feet from the garage to the road. When there was snow on the ground shoveling the driveway wasn't high on my 'fun-meter'...
  5. That they did -- in fact, my mother was known to 'let the tail wag' around corners for a little fun now and again! --- Weeeeee!!! (Watch out for that snow bank...)
  6. It was cool (mid 30's F) but sunny and dry, so I took both Goldie & my GP out for a spin. Stopped at the local ethanol-free pub and topped off the Riviera. Hopefully this winter will be similar to last year and I'll get a chance to take them out at least once a month before spring...
  7. Is it possible to buy a new balancer and have it 'un-balanced' to match the old one assuming that the old one is still basically intact?
  8. That probably explains the generally low prices. Cars that can't be titled and driven are really only good for parts and unless one has the space, buying an entire car for select parts doesn't work either...
  9. In '66 we would have had our '64 GP, after that a '66 Catalina. I can't tell you how many times I had to dig those cars out of the end of our driveway where my mom would either get hung up on the way in or out of the driveway (especially where the plows pushed the snow). "#@&$% low-slung Pontiacs!" she would say. Those crappy bias ply snow tires and an open rear diff almost guaranteed you'd get stuck somewhere.
  10. I'd say this was the Blizzard of '66. No school for a week and I was able to climb up a drift onto the roof of our front porch! A week later it took two V-plows traveling in tandem to open up our road to traffic. It was quite an adventure...
  11. No dice -- the 'Birthday' field is there, but nothing above it!?!
  12. I wonder what the Le Sabre owner was thinking. "Yes, I'll have the A/C, the tissue dispenser and -- oh, forget the Sonomatic AM radio..." My '64 GP has no PS, no PB, but the original owner paid for the power antenna and rear window defogger -- go figure? Oh, and he ordered it with the 'heavy duty' 3-speed on the column!
  13. If my memory is correct, I believe there are tangs on the back side of the ferrules that are bent over to hold them in place on the door panel. So, the panels need to be removed to gain access.
  14. Hmmm -- well, I am not inclined to carry a phone that is smarter than I am, so the 'mobile workaround' isn't available to me and I don't have the 'Member Title' field available when I try to edit my profile... -Tim
  15. Do the pairs of wheels having the same width also share the same backspacing/offset...?
  16. I'm sure Bernie keeps her in stitches even without the table!
  17. Maybe I missed it, but how many bedrooms...?
  18. I'm with Bernie -- seek indoor storage if at all possible. There's nothing worse than flipping the cover off of your baby on that first sunny 65 degree April day and seeing the paint damage, surface rust and interior mold/mildew that you now have to contend with. (Yes, I have that T-shirt...)
  19. Just because you can does not mean that you should...
  20. I take my pickup to Rust Check for an annual respray. $200 per year, but IT WORKS. Since I keep my vehicles until they are at least 15 years old and salt is thrown here from November till April it pays off in the long run. I stop the resprays when I get within 3 or 4 years of retiring the vehicle.
  21. I love GOOOOOLD! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnzH15hwt48
  22. So noted! Maybe I need to preheat them with a couple of heat lamps...? A lot of the snow from the storm earlier this week has melted, but opportunities to drive either of my gals will certainly be few and far between until spring. Last winter (milder than usual) I was able to get the GP out for some exercise about once a month when the roads were clear, cold and dry.
  23. Yup -- I have that same 'T' in white. Got it for my birthday earlier this year!
