  1. Ah HA !!!! Now I know what I will spend my next tax break on ! Thank you so much for the great tip, Dr. Bob ! πŸ˜πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Ž. - CC
  2. Chuck, have you contacted Dave through his direct email, tmkldwwj@yahoo.com ? - Carl
  3. Pirates ? Talk like 'em day ? I venture we would hardly understand the language of a classical 17th or 18th century pirate. It would be full of totally unrecognizable vile language. One only has to read John Barth's masterpiece "The Sot-Weed Factor" to get a sense of how unintelligible, almost cryptic such vulgarity rings in the ear of our early 21st century audience. Decades after hearing a couple anachronistic dead terms which I had thought might have even been home-brewed, I got them second sourced ! What a surprise ! Made me think how wonderful it would be to use a nonsensical word in place of the frequent fowl words which constantly bombard everyone these days. So I propose SPRAOO with which to cleanse our assaulted colonial version of Her Majesty's English. This acronym stands for "Society for the Preservation and Resurrection of Archaic and Obsolete Obscenities ". I honestly do believe it is time to return to what Richard Nixon referred to as "Frankly good language". P.S. I feel that National Talk Like A Pirate Day might be a time to pay homage to perhaps the greatest purveyor of filth , piratical and otherwise, from the high heyday of the Comix period. My old friend Wilson conjured up many a pirate and piratesse. He enjoyed bar hopping in my old Cadillacs when visiting Seattle. (There ! I successfully made this digression car related !). I tried without success to convince him to shelve the bottle and fly to Rotterdam where he had just become eternally elevated to fame by being hung back-to-back with Heronymus Bosch. He would not have made it back on schedule. 9-11. My oldest nephew, his wife and I enjoyed the hospitality of Wilson and his now wife Lorraine when we "Trick or Treated" them in S.F. Halloween, 2008. 24 hours later, he was found face down in a rain puddle, serious brain damage, his career over. He had hit the "Big Time", all gone in a mysterious moment. It is agonizingly pitiful to visit now. Pirates. Pirate talk. My friend wrote like 'em. Absolutely disgusting stuff. My father commanded me to get that trash out of the house way, way back in "The Day". May your soul finally find eternal peace, SCW. - Cadillac Carl
  4. Say you hitched up a half dozen of the finest high endurance steeds, how far could 4 passengers and a teamster or two travel in a days time. Assuming the total distance over the very best level roads of the day ? Thank you for any insight any of you can give. - Carl
  5. RHD ? I'm gonna place my bet: my money says it hails from The Argentine Republic. - Carl
  6. Good luck, Rich. I hope you do land this one. - Carl
  7. You caught me looking on that one too, Padgett ! VERY good one ! πŸ˜‚. Absolutely love it. Well, let's make today Padgett admiration day, recognizing among other things your 20,000+ contributions here. Let me also take this opportunity to recognize your obvious respect for your own safety and health along with same for others during the known and unknown dangers from the crown virus. Also, I am happy to see that you are among my fellow cat lovers here. I always eagerly read your postings, and find it keeps me on my toes at times trying to decipher the sometimes somewhat cryptic content. Hats off and a deep bow of respect. Thanks also to John for taking the time to ask for an explanation. - CATillac Carl, 😸😹
  8. Sunny B', for this bargain to have hung out unsold on this forum, does not bode well for the energy remaining in this hobby. That is just my opinion, but I'm sticking with it. I hope you are advertising elsewhere, and I wish you the best in all of your talented endeavors. - C' C'
  9. For me, who am an old dog, I am just learning new tricks. Getting more acquainted with the new format, figure it will be second nature by and by. I really trust that all of our moderators and engineers who maintain AACA forums are working for the well considered benefit of all. Thank you, guys ! Sure, things have changed, but I do think once we have become used to it, it will become as comfortable as a well aged pair of shoes. - Carl
  10. Don't know about H.C., but some form of Coker should be profitable if they are the only game in town for so many old tire sizes. As far as dating the decal, it can't be older than the use of zip codes. - CC
  11. I am bringing this back to our attention in the hope that someone can help Donna Lynn. I sincerely wish there was something I could do to help. - Carl
  12. Bringing this back to our attention for the benefit of Bill Harmatuk 's widow, Donna. I wish I could do more to help. - Carl
  13. There is a gentleman with the handle of Durospeed on the forum. Posted a truly phenomenal amount of old lights for sale some time back. Give him a try at durocar@aol.com. You will find one eventually. Good luck ! - Carl
  14. Most 100 year old tops are in some ways like most 100 year old people. Certain things they shouldn't attempt to do. In the case of tops, most 100 year olds should stay out of the sun as much as possible, stay dry, and merely reminisce over the limber acrobatics of youth. When I bought my '24 Cadillac, it was only 65 years old. Gentleman I bought it from was considerably older, and in far worse shape than the well preserved car. But : I'm here to tell you that he sure knew his ancient cars. (I should have bought his Packard phaeton too). Anyway, Ray advised me not to put the top down. He had only tried it once during his ownership. Difficult, and hazardous to the frail original top and headliner. I don't second guess well-founded expert advice. My intention was to drive the tough, properly sorted relic many tens of thousands of miles until I was no longer able to do so. I expected the top to significantly degrade while I did likewise. The top (and maybe also the superb original sidecurtains), would have provided protection from the sun while en-route. Also from cold days which inevitably would have got us in early Spring, or at altitude, or in Northern tier states as Autumn headed us back home or down South. No driving in the rain, though. I lay up, and/or cover up until rain passes. Intention was to fold the top permanently to preserve what was left of it as it would have started to come apart after a couple decades of road exposure. Shorter excursions with the top down as I became less capable of doing the longer ones. The old Cad would have seemed to be a different car from the top up version. Well, I never got to enjoy the life I had worked so hard to get to live. Therefore the top and headliner remain in pretty good shape. Now I am in far worse shape than the 1924 Cadillac, though 20 years younger. I can not achieve Ray's age at the time he parted ways with the car, to my benefit. That being the case, I am now considering putting the top down before I die, still owning my cars. The last sentence of the above long paragraph being the justification. The next owner will still have a presentable top to raise for HPOF if desired, or just leave down, it's condition being memorialized by numerous pictures. For not a whole lot more than the price of an expertly reproduced top and headliner, the next owner could also buy my other HPOF '27 Cad sedan for those times a top up cruise would be more comfortable. I hope my perspective on the subject helps you. I am deeply grateful to the late Ray Pierce out of Akron-Canton, OH (did any of you know him ?), for his sage advice. You probably know my two Nickel Era Cadillacs, right ? But here is a close up of the brittle top which is the age of yours. How do they compare ? - Carl P.S. The "top dressing" is Surflex which I got from the late wonderful Bill Hirsch. Applied 30 years ago, it still looks very good. I don't think Hirsch carry Surflex now due to some marketing issues, and not because of quality. It can be obtained from other sources.
  15. Thanks for your professional analysis, Jim. Would the high floor of a deck over make car hauling dangerous due to a higher center of gravity ? I did notice that the generator would have to be relocated high and forward. But in any case, it did not last long at that price. Evidently sold in hours. - Carl
  16. Yes, Zepher. That's it. Thank you. Apparently just down the road from me. I think for that money, just the Onan generator, wiring, A/C, and those Sailuns would come close to the break-even point for the lucky purchaser. Perhaps I could be of some help with logistics for someone. It certainly could be safely stored on my property to wait for the fetching. Oh how I wish I was equipped to pull Goose !! - Carl
  17. Why bother to cut the head first ? Bind to the stake and give a VERY slow roasting. That way the monster can get full measure of its delights. Hmmmmmmm.......... long pig, anyone ? 😑😝☠️. - CC P.S. Did I ever tell you about the time ..................................
  18. In my home town. Go to Seattle C.L. Trailers by owner, put Ellensburg in the search box. Man ! A/C, 7 kw generator, beautiful Sailuns on 16" 8 lugs. Worth driving a fair distance for. I just don't know how to link directly to C.L. - Carl
  19. Thank you so much, Dave ! We have all been worrying ourselves sick. But of course the tragedy of fires has impacted too many already with more to come. How are the conditions in your corner of WA ? If you draw 2 diagonal lines corner to corner on the WA map, they cross at my mini ranch. Very bad smoke Labor Day. An unprecedented N.E. strong wind put us directly down range from the Bridgeport / Mansfield fire. Very thick smoke with particulate ash in our eyes and lungs. I am very frail, and am worried. Yesterday and today smoke is not too bad. Winds mostly calm here, with an occasional S.E. / S.S.E. light breeze. Here you see what is normally crystal clear, however, way down below in E'burg, old cars are enjoying exercise, and good prices on E-free 87 octane, and the more modern and high performance machinery drink the 92 octane E-free. Oh how I hope this horror ends soon. - Carl P.S. I have the latest software update on my iPad mini, and have compressed all these pics into about 190 K.B!!!!! Hmm.............. let's see if any significant detail is lost : P.P.S. Yes, I think too much detail has been lost on the '40 Chev. Let me see if I can post a couple full resolution pictures for comparison. 2.1 M.B. front quarter shot, 2.3 for the interior. You do have to click into higher res on your device/computer to see all the difference, of course. Maybe there is a happy medium. - CC
  20. Hope you all are spending a safe relaxing holiday, free from onerous labor. CC
  21. To be clear, NO, the engine block, as is the frame, body, etc. is the ground side of the circuit. All grounds electrically connected, all grounds positive. The POSITIVE cable should run to the engine block. Welcome to this friendly forum ! I hope you stay with us so we can all get to know each other and our cars better. The most interesting cars I have are original unrestored 1924 and 1927 Cadillacs. - Carl
  22. Absolutely fantastique, Mark ! I had never heard of such things. Thank you for posting this and all of the other interesting subjects you bring to our attention. I particularly agree with the comments of Graham' and the one and only Ed. Now looky here all of my fellow old fogeys : not in our few remaining days or years, or whatever, but youse young 'uns reading dis will live to see the time come when tiny vehicles like these will be regarded as fairly large heavy personal transport compared to the norm. - Cadillac Carl, (has given his oracular prognostication)
  23. CORRECTION, CORRECTION, CORRECTION. Excuse me please. 🀑 In what is left of my mind, I thought my '24 had some differences from the top picture, therefore assumed some production change. Well, I just checked my pictures, and learned yet another lesson to check my memory more frequently, and avoid assumptions. The parts are identical. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that this is typical for ALL V63s. Hey Joe : Please give me a call sometime when you have nothing better to do. - Carl
  24. Fortunately for ignorant me, I use an iPad mini. I can zoom in or out on almost anything, so expand to full screen. - Carl
  25. Hi Michael, How much can you deviate from stock as far as suspension modifications ? You will want to build the best off-road racer within the rules. Also, how much dirt experience do you have ? Doesn't take too long before you understand how important tire choice is. Can you modify enough to equip with the best off-road radial tires available ? Tires are the tunable part of the suspension. Lots of wheel travel with shock towers full of the best gas shocks appropriate for allowable wheel travel. An extremely robust axle truss to protect that all important third member. I have moved a number of vehicles many a mile at high velocity on dirt. Please let us know the answers to the above. - Carl
