  1. A friend used to say “You never wore one of those old Dodges out. You just got tired of driving it”. Nice car. Zeke
  2. The black canister is a vacuum tank. Using vacuum from the engine, gasoline is drawn from the fuel tank in the rear of the car to the canister where gravity pulls gas into the carburetor. When properly maintained, the system works well. Without an inspection of the car I can't comment on the fuel starvation. Zeke
  3. Bloo: Like you, I have no idea what the contents of the OP's rear end are. Once you start mixing and matching parts you are out of my field of expertise As far as I'm concerned, original parts-original oils. Zeke
  4. I use 140wt fluid in my '33 Dodge rear end. It is the original unit. Zeke
  5. Jeepster gas tanks are at the rear of the car. The ride is okay. We aren’t talking about a Lincoln or LaSalle here. Remember the origins of the Jeepster. You can feel the road but the ride is head and shoulders above a Model A Ford. I should clarify that my Jeepster was a 1948. The sixties version was a different animal from the 1948-1950 units. Zeke
  6. Back to the Jeepsters: I had one for 25 years or so. They are great antique cars. Floors can be rusty but they patch easily. The overdrive is simply and makes even the four cylinder peppy. Parts are still available and usually aren’t expensive. They are a lot of fun to drive and garner a lot of attention. As far as spousal enjoyment, my wife liked riding in ours as long as I didn’t forget and leave the side curtains at home. Zeke
  7. That, my friend, is a fire waiting to happen. Zeke
  8. The difference in the number of children attending the HCCA event and the Glidden might be one of timing This event is being held in July when most children are out of school. The Glidden is held in the fall, well after school starts foe most students. Zeke
  9. The best state to own an antique car in is a state of extasy. Zeke01
  10. I wonder if it was modified to accommodate someone in a wheelchair. The passenger could be placed in the back and could remain in the wheelchair which was locked into the floor.I have seen photos of Checker automobiles so modified although they were more tastefully done. That is the most charitable explanation I can think of. Zeke
  11. Since “Continental kit” was so named because it first appeared on Lincoln Continentals I would say that the kit is appropriate for the car. It looks good because the designer designed the car to accommodate the spare on the back. Zeke
  12. Clark automobiles used Rutenber engines but the marque didn't last long. Pre 15 if memory serves. Zeke
  13. Edsel Ford had a Lincoln constructed for his personal car. Someone added the spare on the back like some European cars had (on the Continent). The style caught on and people mimicked the look. As best I remember the story. Zeke
  14. I recall an article in Old Cars Weekly many years ago written by an automotive designer about such things as continental kits. He said that designers used proportion in design and extending the car at the back like that if not designed for a kit ruined the proportions of the car. I don't care for kits and now I know why. As an aside, the author took aftermarket fender skirts to task also. He pointed out that if the fender had a lip at the bottom, the designer meant for the body to end there. Putting skirts on made the fender look funny. He was right about that too. Zeke
  15. Maybe I will go with a name brand. Zeke
  16. No problems with the dolly wheels? Zeke
  17. Merchandise quality at Harbor Freight can be, shall we say questionable. Are you satisfied with the fit and finish of the jack dollies? Are they name brand or of Chinese manufacture? I'm not trying to start a fight. I have been considering a set but haven't looked at HF stuff. Thanks in advance. Zeke
  18. Two observations: the headlight shields and fog lights don’t help the looks of the front and I hope someone has aligned the front end since the spare was changed out. Zeke
  19. Years ago a friend bought a 1932 Plymouth PB convertible coupe in baskets. It took him three trips to bring the car home from out of state. He never got around to putting the car together and sold the project to someone else. That owner started assembling the car only to find out that the whole dash board was missing. It was not in the piles of parts that my friend brought home. By the way not only was the dash board exclusive to 1932, it was exclusive to the convertible coupe. This guy tried every contact he had, tried Hemmings, tried everything. Finally in desperation he contacted the second owner back. The widow of that owner told him that that very week she had found some old car parts under the bed and was just about to get rid of them.T he PB owner got her address, hung up the phone and told his wife that he would be back in a day or so and left right that moment. Turns out the widow had the dash board and several other parts for the car. Somewhere there is a lesson in this story. Zeke
  20. Like Spinneyhill I question the use of additional additives in motor oil. What are you trying to accomplish by adding MMO or Risalone to your oil? Refiners put a lot more than just crude into those bottles. Snake oil, all of them in my opinion. You are welcome to your opinion of course. Zeke
  21. I suspect, but don't know for sure that that sweet young thing might have been plied with strong drink in order to pose with such a plebeian auto. Shame upon you sir! s/. Zeke
  22. I got my 34x4 1/2 blackwalls from Coker Tire, www.cokertire.com. Not cheap but what is these days? I can't help about the whitewalls. Zeke
  23. Chrysler’s make fantastic tour cars. Try your luck with the VMCCA crowd. Zeke
  24. Usually tire shops that work on truck tires will take these on. They use a cage to contain any mishaps. This is one project best left to professionals. I once worked with a man who had a split ring fly off and hit him in the head. He had lots of issues but was lucky to live through the experience. Good luck. Zeke
