  1. The museum is indeed A1 in quality, but let's all admit there's nothing like having a ride in a car you really like. I was lucky to get a ride in a friend's restored 1967 Corvette 427 425hp with side pipes. No museum car will ever compare to that experience! I hope some one can help this person's dream come true.   2. Eve though we can load large pictures, I've found my combination of computing device and my internet speed do not allow anything close to 1mb to work properly to upload a picture to this site. When I downsize them to about 1/4 mb all is well. Terry
  3. My son who was home for the weekend from college went to this event. He said it was great! Lots of interesting cars showed up despite early morning showers. He had pictures of everything from a Crosley to a Lamborghini! Lots of service dogs in attendance too! Overall a great day for him. He is a senior studying mechanical engineering and has landed a job with Tesla in CA following graduation so I see some collector cars in his future. Terry

  8. I have no idea what it is but for sure it is a really interesting photo! Can you tell us where you found it? To me it seems like it is an exploration trip of some kind. The large locomotive type light on the front of the car is a real stand out item. Terry
  9. My 1970 Yamaha 90cc enduro bike will also over voltage when the battery is disconnected. It's a 6v system too. Terry
  10. Memories of modified cars is a true statement. Most of my friends and I had modified cars. For example, my 55 Chevy was a four door sedan yet it had Corvair bucket seats up front and a three speed on the floor. The engine was a 283 out of a 64. Terry

  12. I was not aware of the wood issue being worse in the Chevy, I thought all the early cars had wood installed and were pretty much the same for needing replacement. When I was shopping around for an old car many years ago and pre-Internet I looked at a 1930 Chevy coup but purchased a 1937 Dodge pick up instead. Another reason for my question was some early automobile paperwork my wife and I have found as executors of an estate. The family's first car was a 1917 Ford, later replaced with a 1922 Ford, which was replaced by a 1925 Chevrolet. The Chevy was then traded for a 1929 Essex. After the Essex a Hudson was next but we are not sure of the model year of the Hudson. Thanks for the replys. Great background info on cars of this era. Terry
  13. There is a thread in this section where pricing advice is requested on two cars, one is a 30 or 31 Model A Ford and the other is a 1930 Chevy sedan. Both appear to be nice examples of cars from this period. My question is why the Chevrolet is more of an orphan in the comparison? It would seem the Chevy with its 6 cyl engine would be a better driver. For sure the Model A has a larger fan base and good parts supply but what is it about the Chevys of that era that make them less desirable? From what I see in the marketplace, Chevys from 1932 on start to get more interest and better prices. I have been a Chevy guy for many years but the oldest one I ever owned was a 1955 model. I'm interested to hear your comments! Terry

  15. Didn't Chevy have a fiber timing gear back in the 1970s that did the same thing? I recall where they came apart and the Pistons and valves met at all the wrong times! Terry
  16. That body style on the Fords was the number one choice of dirt track stock car racers when I was a young fella. I bet most of them met their demise in that use. Terry

  18. I worked at a gas station after school in the late 1960s. A woman who owned a bar down the street would come in to get bags of ice for use at the bar. I put them in the trunk of her car for her. It was a red 1969 Chevelle. The headrests had big white letters with YSC on them. Yep 1969 Yenko 427 Chevelle, one of only 99 built as it turns out. I often wonder what ever happened to the car. Terry
  19. Do you think the oil pump might be bad? Sure does not sound good. Way back when I had a Ford Granada that did the same thing. After a few weeks the engine was toast. A donor engine was easy to find but I'm sure that's not so easy to do in Germany. Terry

  23. A lot of us read the posts but are unable to help as we may have no experience with that procedure. A few who are familiar will usually respond. I read them to hopefully gain some knowledge as I have never owned anything that old. Terry
  24. The Hy Drive automatic, a kind of hybrid of torque flite and power flite was a 1953 trans. Power flite was available in 1954. Terry
  25. Hemmings Classic car magazine recently featured the restoration work that went into a 1963 Impala SS convertible that came from the factory with a 6 cyl engine. A lot of praise was given to the owner who chose to keep the car a 6 rather than upgrading it to a v8.
