Chrysler series 65: oil and tightening engine head
richasco replied to bypass's topic in General Discussion
Try this, I think I found it on here or maybe a google search. Work up to the final torque in stages, start at 40 and go through all nuts in sequence, then do 50 and finally go to 60 or whatever the final torque value. -

Update: It turns out that the car was stolen from Idaho and will be returned to the US.

Just saw this on the news, I have to wonder if it was stolen from Idaho. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/1969-chevrolet-abandoned-london-may-be-turned-soup-cans-n320551

Please be careful when buying a vehicle....

This has been all over the news here. It's a very sad story, but at least the suspect turned himself in. -
Marty, Vintage and Classic Reproductions in Australia have them for sale. Are you trying to find a replacement or are you going to use it for a mold to recast on your own? I searched ebay for a long time to find a complete U-1. I got it pretty cheap but it is really just good for parts as the castings are unsafe to use.
-
The price is right, maybe even a little low on a good running engine. You have some great parts for anyone who drives their car a lot, or for someone who wants to build a speedster. They would probably be an easier sell at a large swap meet like Hershey.
-
Don't forget about Valiant. The entry price will be in your range and parts are still cheap/easy to find. The slant six is a great engine, or you can hold out for a v-8.

Do you happen to have a spare hood, radiator/grill shell or seat frames?

Finding an Appropriate prewar blackwall tire
richasco replied to alsancle's topic in General Discussion
I like the look of the tread on the Firestones, it's more inline with what would have come on the car originally. Also last month I turned my whitewalls to the inside and I am very glad I did, check my photo album to see the before and after. -
Tesla, there was an article recently in Business Week predicting they will be bankrupt by 2017.

What spare parts do you have? Thanks, Scott

I know that Verdone's had the levers for the 29 DeSoto, I wonder if they had the molds for the Chryslers. I am still kicking myself for not getting a set at their last visit to Hershey. I know they closed and were trying to sell the business. Does anyone know if the molds are still in existance, or if the business will be back under new ownership?

I have an original U-1 carb which is nearly identical to the U-2(smaller throat size). I would never put it on my car though. The early die-cast metal is too volatile. At some point I will spend the money and a get new body from http://www.vintageandclassicreproductions.com/ They seem to have a good reputation with Dodge owners.

Google shows lot's a bad reviews of this place.

Bill, There was a thread a few months ago about the business being up for sale. I don't think there was a definitive outcome, but would like to know if it was sold or not and if it is still possible to make an order.

Autolite coil with mounted switch? What does it fit?
richasco replied to Brad in Wisconsin's topic in What is it?
The WO360 is the manufacturer key code. A call or email to a place like Jesser's could probably confirm which manufacturer used that code. -

richasco replied to Brad in Wisconsin's topic in What is it?
That is a dash mounted coil. If you clean it up more you should find a number on the face plate. The prefix to the number will help you determine the application. This one looks a lot like that ones that were used in Willys vehicles. These are re-buildable and are sometimes sought after so don't throw it way. -
That part number is not listed in the 1928-1933 DeSoto Master Parts List. Is it in a MOPAR box?

I managed to get one of these off of ebay at a good price but like everyone else, no instructions. I just found something that I think may be of use. My grandfather made photocopies of two pages from an unknown book that describes how to time an engine using one of these timing gauges. The note at the top of the second page talks directly about using one of the "new gauges" with the built in spark gap. I took a couple of quick pictures, but will be able to get better scans at some point when I'm not so busy.

Are there any part numbers on these?
