Annual Grand National Meet...WOW! Pictures added!

Recommended Posts

Can't believe someone has not beaten me to the punch on this one! I guess leaving the hotel at 5:30 a.m. might have something to do with it. What a GREAT meet! 486 pre-registered cars, great show site, superb host hotel and unbelieveably fantastic cars. The folks in the Lake Erie Region had things organized to a "T" and really put on a great event.

There were a lot of happy faces as our members picked up their awards. However, in a few instances people seemed to be disappointed. Naturally, that is not a feeling we would like to see someone walk away with. There were so many extremely high point, "perfect" cars that it made it possible to have a 390+ car and still "lose"!! As for me, I thought every car on the field was a winner and they all had previously proved it. There wasn't a vehicle there that I would not have been proud to own.

Thanks everyone for bringing your vehicle out and letting us enjoy them for the day!

Pictures! We need pictures! Another disappointing weekend for me, but at least my region will be happy to get a newsletter next week.

If anyone has a large quantity of pictures of this show, PeterG can put them all on at one time. Something I haven't mastered yet. Wayne

Steve: I keep telling you to take a breath, smell the roses, 5:30 AM departure? I know where you were at 11:30 PM! Talking AACA and telling us your version of "The Birds" story Great show folks. The Lake Erie Region did a SUPERB job, simply SUPERB. My arm almost fell off shaking hands.....Bush could learn from me.....or even Kerry, hehe. Wonderful cars, wonderful Meet. Thanks Ed Ferber and all of the other members of the Lake Erie Region, AND thanks to each of you who brought your cars, trucks and motorcycles, and thanks to each of you who judged. As for winners and losers, nobody could be a loser with those beautiful cars, just some didn't quite have the right mix of points this time. I've been down both of those roads. You just grit your teeth with a little more determination, do a little more work and try again...it'll come. Thanks everybody for making this AACA World Series Event one of the greatest.

My hats off to the Lake Erie Region. The Grand National meet was one of the best National Meets that I have attended. The show field was excellent, and everything about the event seemed to go perfectly. My wife and I had never been to that part of the country so we planned our vacation around the meet. We arrived in town a week early, spent the week at the host hotel and toured the area each day during the week leading up to the show. I must say, we helped the economy up there and had a great time doing it. What a beautiful area, we went over to see the Falls, both sides, and to Niagara-On-The-Lake and other places. We also traveled through the New York wine country. I must say that having been born, raised and still live in the south, I've never heard a lot of good stuff about them "Yankees". I looked for a snooty Yankee all week and never found even one. Everyone was as nice a bunch of people as I ever met and I don't mean just the Lake Erie Region members. Every person that we encountered from the waitresses at the restaurants to the guy standing on the street corner would go out of their way to assist you.

Again, great job!!!!!!

Tommy...Great post.

You said it all.

My experiences you echoed, except one.

Communicated via this Forum for a few years with Pat Thorpe (ex98thdrill). Condensed: Pat and his father, Nelson, invited me to see their restored and in the the process of restoration vehicles on my return to Reading, PA. I did.

All I can say is super hospitality. Went out of their way to give me a tour of their projects, to include a fire truck at the Bloomfield Fire Company. Not the end just yet!! We drove over to one Roger Hawkins residence for a tour of his facilities.

When I left, all I thought of is the hospitality exerted in my direction of the Lake Erie Region, the Thorpe family, and, Roger Hawkins. An AGNM and 2 Museum calibre automotive displays within 2 days was great.

Thank you Peter. It was our pleasure. Often when people think of New York they think of the city and all of the crap that goes on there. Where I live is just a town much smaller than Hershey, but even being from a small town, we make up for it in cars. The difference between the two.... NIGHT AND DAY!! We might be yankees, but we're not a bad group. They took the railroad tracks out of the center of our town about 30 years ago. As for the subway? That's a place to get a sandwich and even then we have to drive 10 miles to get there grin.gifgrin.gif.

...For a couple of country boys from a small town, we do our own restorations and we do them well. Peter, that guy who stopped by the house to ask us how we did in Buffalo has a Model 'A', a '70 Malibu, a '67 Chevelle SS, and an '84 Camaro Z-28 all restored sitting in his stable. .....and we haven't even touched on the restored tractors!!

I'm a member of the Staten Island, N.Y region AACA, 5 of our members won Grand National awards, 2 Juniors and three seniors at Buffalo. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend. I had the pleasure to view the 1,300 plus photos a member on this site posted, What a collection of incredible cars!! I have taken my own cars to mainly all Mopar events all over the country, and I'm looking forward to my debut at Hershey in the fall. I hope to join the privileged few, who carry the honor of Senior Grand National Champion. Keep up the good work, on both this site and events.

Warm Regards,

Dr John Piazza

Dr. Piazza...Welcome to the AACA Forum.

I met a few of the Staten Island members within the Wyndham parking lot as they were getting ready to hook up to unload. The pleasure was mine. Very dedicated folks.

Please encourage involvement on this forum as well as everything the AACA has to offer. We are all here to assist eachother.

Congratulations to your Region's success at the AGNM. From what I saw of their enthusiasm, it comes at no surprise. What impressed me the most, were the young people that made the trip.

Regards,

Peter J.
