1936 Buick Coupe (Is this model unique or special?)

I've never seen one of these before and have the opportunity to buy a very solid example.  Is this model unique or special?

Nice project, don't pay too much. It will need a bit of work unless you plan to get it reliable and drive as is.

It runs and drives but the brakes need attention. It would be a stress free driver. I'm not in a restoration type income bracket.

be sure to inspect the wood structure,especially the doors for wood rot,other than that ....nice car and style

It is a 1936 model 46 special.

1936 was the last year of wooden body frame. 1937 first year of all steel.

 

Rebuilding the brakes not that hard.  Just may cost $$

A handsome looking car, share more pics if you get it.  I like all true coupes of the prewar era, and Buicks seem to give a great value in style and engineering up and down their line.

The '36 - '38 coupes are all handsome IMHO.  The only concern with the '36 is the wooden body structure, as mentioned above.  If it's solid, you'll have a nice looking driver with a little TLC.

It’s not “unique,” (a much abused word) since more than one exist. It is a desirable 3 window coupe body of a well-supported and appreciated marque. Being a 40 series indeed makes it a “Special. » (couldn’t resist)

Stay on this forum and join the Buick Club of America.  You can find a lot of support information and be able to chase down many parts.  You wont find everything but you’ll be able to turn it into a well running , fun car.  Good choice, it will do pretty well in modern traffic if you remember it is old and don’t over-drive it.

The cast grill is fragile.  And replacements are like hen's teeth.

Thank you for all the input folks. I decided it's not the car for me I really want a 37 or 38 and while this car would be fantastic the wood inner structure is something I don't want to deal with. The seller dropped the price down to $8,500 which given the condition and the fact that it runs and drives like a very good price.
