MikeC5
You might consider Evap O Rust. Ed (Edinmass) has had success with it.
Mattml430
Got the engine all steam cleaned and disassembled today. Seems no matter how much you degrease and clean it you still get black shit coming out of them. going to get it all cleaned up and tidy up the exhaust and inlet ports. The bearings will all need to be repoured some have started to break up and some are still good. The block seems to be in great shape. hitting it with the hot wash. Gets into those water galleries really well. before. After

Based on these rules yes but the blades must be removed so no cutting the corners or mowing down any of the opposition.

Mattml430
Haven’t been able to do much more on the dodge as I’m waiting for the sand blasting to be done. The weather hasn’t been in his favour but hopefully soon he’ll get here to do it.
Mattml430
Sandblasting has all been done. there is quite a bit of timber that needs replacing. It’s great to have it still all there though to make templates. The body has a few rust holes but that is to be expected. The bottom of the cowl where it joins to the chassis is completely rusted away. I have templates there for plasma cutting them out from some I’ve previously made.

Ronny is jumping in his truck and heading our way early next week. Should get to us in a couple of months. I’ve been getting a bit of prep work done on the engine block, getting it ready for some undercoat before sending it off to the engine builder. Have also cleaned up exhaust and inlet ports.

Mattml430
Got a little bit more done on the engine today. next up is cleaning up the combustion chamber to help with a better flow of combustion gases. Steam cleaned the head and gave it a good sandblast inside and out. Edited May 6, 2023 by Mattml430 (see edit history)

This too will improve the combustion gas flow by incorporating the tail end of the exhaust to increase the inlet charge.

Does he grind the original like he does with the 6. If he does I’ll definitely get it done it’s worth it. I think he’s trying to sell the business but no one is up for taking it on which will be a shame.
Mattml430
I’ve ordered all the bearings and bushes for the diff, gearbox, kingpins, draglink bushes and pins and shackle bushes. Once I have them I will replace all of them before I paint the chassis.

That’s a real shame, I must have got in just in time in December. Not many places left that have the equipment, skills and knowledge. Minibago
Back in the late 1950’s we visited this spot in Belgium for a bit of fun. It opened in 1933 and is still operating now. Note the steering wheel, the off set axle position on the front wheel and the bike on the left in the background with an oval front wheel. All the bikes we different but none were normal.

nearchoclatetown
Matt, not sure why you are making a big deal out of this. From the book I read about Burt Munro he ground his cams on a bench grinder, then filed then and polished. But of course he was a Kiwi.
Mattml430
We employed a lot of kiwis years ago they were the best workers. Had one that was the best welder I have ever seen. Every weld was perfect he was born a welder. He didn’t turn up one day, he jumped on the first plane back home early one morning because the police were after him for street racing. Loved his little jap 4 banger. He didn’t even tell his girlfriend she turned up at work looking for him. 🤦🏻♂️
Mattml430
Been crook with the flu over the weekend and Monday so have been on the go slow. Managed to get out to the shed to do a bit today though. You can only lay on the couch watching the Grand Tour for so long. Got the combustion chambers cleaned up and started on the water pump. water pump was a bit worse for wear. But the main shaft was in good condition. Picked up some mechanical seals for it and will hopefully have it back together tomorrow. There was a couple of big holes in it that I found after sandblasting it but managed to fix them up by mig welding them up with stainless wire. Seems to work really nicely on cast. Also built up the inlet pipes with some stainless steel as they had corroded back a bit.

Mattml430
Thanks Nige , I have a few also but it’s always worth trying to repair them if possible I think. I’ve been successful repairing this one and hopefully I’ll have it all back together tomorrow.
