As there will be parts to sand, I said to myself that I will do the one for the other doors at the same time so that I will sand these at the same time.

So here is the turntable on the other side

Then I wanted to check the electrical continuity of the cigarette lighters to see if they work, and no they don't :(

SAM_8104.JPG.68d3538291b79ad597adf8e982610517.JPG

so I disassembled the back of the cigarette lighter to see better

SAM_8107.JPG.bba839b254e366422a77d1ab846794b9.JPG

it's rusty/oxidized

SAM_8108.JPG.1fbeb153618a43a444b847b8d2e30133.JPG

Contact sanding

SAM_8109.JPG.b7698655577a2c72a74bb504f33c15f8.JPG

SAM_8112.JPG.6eb06abb91ab4050e2d3d81001b886fa.JPG

I added a small axis inside to help the contact to do this, then reassembly and continuity test

SAM_8115.JPG.5e0adf61dc71f52cd6f1e10c0e5be9fc.JPG

This time it's good it works :), now second cigarette lighter.

it also doesn't work, so I also disassembled the back

SAM_8117.JPG.da39bff60e26178b2c42194d2d50e255.JPG

it's even more rusty than the other one

SAM_8118.JPG.f31360d25149dfc9683dc925af9cbceb.JPG

So contact sanding

SAM_8119.JPG.58f657772cf5378423e1df9e25c7c9be.JPG

But for this small part there is no electrical continuity

SAM_8122.JPG.6fdaa4da45ed7d81890b243934fa9ad0.JPG

So I took it out of its holder

SAM_8123.JPG.88835471e3f2fe8ecd429dfafcc30f8f.JPG

And test the support, which is fine

SAM_8125.JPG.67d702ddd7c393dafef3492c3031e41b.JPG

The problem therefore comes from this part, the current does not pass

SAM_8126.JPG.96387d04d69de4b07fe8c79e14c964fc.JPG

So I pierced it, and lots of blue oxidation powder fell into it.

SAM_8127.JPG.5dbbbc006cd14d4953e17214952f4755.JPG

And its second part y and fall too

SAM_8130.JPG.fc9343653a5c9bd48ded2530735b6faf.JPG

I will put an electric wire to make the contact

SAM_8128.JPG.a0c42a21bd698486b3049a71bb7e22b2.JPG

SAM_8131.JPG.ea8e1ae66ead3354113707a74e73e28b.JPG

Reassembly, and the contact is there :)

Hello, here are the rest of the photos :) .
Contact paint on the sandblasted parts

SAM_8141.JPG.363e223af50b7afad4ead6fa1d73ea92.JPG

Then the cigar lighters of the rear doors, with the "bell" which makes the mass of the cigar lighter.

These were sandblasted, and now I will apply a colorless varnish to them, protecting the contacts from the ground.

SAM_8145.JPG.6221f9c317a946908f9ea4b4191f4753.JPG

SAM_8146.JPG.b84c07b45f9deffeb33b4f031f7edc19.JPG

Then I continue with the ashtrays which have also been sanded.

And one of them is punctured by the rust that there was

SAM_8147.JPG.b4638c3f70a5009a2d6e449a3426cd05.JPG

So I repaired the bottom of the tank by welding, then grinding the welds

SAM_8149.JPG.fde4c19378d267ac5d922f7078dfd162.JPG

Then for the various cracks in the metal because of the rust that there was, application of a body filler

SAM_8152.JPG.3b9be71fed72bb2f58be37f8cb150dc1.JPG

Then sanding

hello, here are the rest of the photos of the work on the Buick :)
So I continued with the joint between the two windows on the passenger side.

At the bottom the original one which is damaged, and at the top the new model.

Thank you very much ! :)

I will soon post photos of the reassembly of the new seal, and the work on the chrome strips on the passenger side :)

It looks like you are very near being finished with the car.

What else remains for you to consider the car "done"?

Thank you lancemb ;) , yes, the reassembly begins at this point, but there is still work to be done ;) .

What remains to be reassembled :

The front and rear bumper, the grille at the front of the car, several chrome pieces (door strips, lower body strips, engine cover strip, etc.), the windshield wiper motor, hood seal, chrome strip surrounding the front and rear windshield, cardboard lining in the trunk, floor carpet for the trunk, wheel covers, ...
There's still some left :D

hello, here are the rest of the photos :)

I continued by installing the new window seal and the chrome strip.
On the left the original seal and on the right the new seal

We can see that the joint was in poor condition

I am very happy with the new seal, I bought it in 2015 and I had never opened it and I was afraid it was not the right one.

And I was afraid that it was a seal for a 2-door Electra, and the seal is for the 4-door models :)
And the joint is exactly the same shape as the original :)

Then I continued on the other side,

cleaning chrome strips

Originally there was a foam seal along the chrome strip (probably for the vibrations between the body and the strip) and the bodywork sheet gasket to join the whole, then the strip is then screwed.

I put a white seal for house windows of the same thickness, with transparent silicone on each side to seal everything

SAM_8386.JPG.f3835ec6bc0d9e801790cb3ff7da9b01.JPG

Then reassembly of the chrome strips

SAM_8391.JPG.002a4acf336dda0382465b0ffdf29ee8.JPG

Then the next step is reassembly of the seal, but as we have to take the Buick outside to have more room to open the doors for reassembly of the seal, in the meantime I continued with another step, a large part :D

I will post more photos soon :)

Hello everyone, here is news from the Buick :)

So to continue, I took care of the rear bumper ! :)

SAM_8398.JPG.c0190bbaae93e8220165ad0d184490f4.JPG

As we can see it is not clean inside, there is rust, earth, leaves, ...

Removing the bumper supports

SAM_8430.JPG.6bef1353ae15cc7bb14466fdb9597732.JPG

I removed the dirt, dust and leaves, and you can see that there is rust everywhere in the bumper

Then I wanted to check the electrical continuity of the cigarette lighters to see if they work, and no they don't :(

SAM_8104.JPG.68d3538291b79ad597adf8e982610517.JPG

so I disassembled the back of the cigarette lighter to see better

SAM_8107.JPG.bba839b254e366422a77d1ab846794b9.JPG

it's rusty/oxidized

SAM_8108.JPG.1fbeb153618a43a444b847b8d2e30133.JPG

Contact sanding

SAM_8109.JPG.b7698655577a2c72a74bb504f33c15f8.JPG

SAM_8112.JPG.6eb06abb91ab4050e2d3d81001b886fa.JPG

I added a small axis inside to help the contact to do this, then reassembly and continuity test

SAM_8115.JPG.5e0adf61dc71f52cd6f1e10c0e5be9fc.JPG

This time it's good it works :), now second cigarette lighter.

it also doesn't work, so I also disassembled the back

SAM_8117.JPG.da39bff60e26178b2c42194d2d50e255.JPG

it's even more rusty than the other one

SAM_8118.JPG.f31360d25149dfc9683dc925af9cbceb.JPG

So contact sanding

SAM_8119.JPG.58f657772cf5378423e1df9e25c7c9be.JPG

But for this small part there is no electrical continuity

SAM_8122.JPG.6fdaa4da45ed7d81890b243934fa9ad0.JPG

So I took it out of its holder

SAM_8123.JPG.88835471e3f2fe8ecd429dfafcc30f8f.JPG

And test the support, which is fine

SAM_8125.JPG.67d702ddd7c393dafef3492c3031e41b.JPG

The problem therefore comes from this part, the current does not pass

SAM_8126.JPG.96387d04d69de4b07fe8c79e14c964fc.JPG

So I pierced it, and lots of blue oxidation powder fell into it.

SAM_8127.JPG.5dbbbc006cd14d4953e17214952f4755.JPG

And its second part y and fall too

SAM_8130.JPG.fc9343653a5c9bd48ded2530735b6faf.JPG

I will put an electric wire to make the contact

SAM_8128.JPG.a0c42a21bd698486b3049a71bb7e22b2.JPG

SAM_8131.JPG.ea8e1ae66ead3354113707a74e73e28b.JPG

Reassembly, and the contact is there :)

Sebastien,

I am just reading these updates from August; EXCELLENT work, as usual!

However, there is one change I would suggest.

That part at the back of the cigar lighter is a fuse.

If you want to replace it, they are sometimes available on eBay and other places:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/275939618090?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338590836&toolid=10044&customid=73f49c82957a1900ed82f9b3e33b9196

I chose to replace my failed fuse with an inline fuse so it is easier - and much cheaper - to replace.

Sorry, I don't have any photos of what I did.

I would definitely add a fuse to that circuit; the power feed is direct to the battery and a short circuit could damage your wiring or cause a fire.

Hello, thank you very much for the information  :) ! .  I didn't know it was a fuse and I wonder why they made a system like this to power the cigarette lighter.
My cigarette lighters will only be used to charge a phone for example, I don't want anyone smoking in the car.
Thank you ! :)

Then reassembly of the bumper ! :) , it was about 7 and a half years ago that it was removed from the car.

Despite having taken the measures before dismantling to facilitate adjustment for reassembly, it took three people almost 40 minutes to adjust the bumper  .

And the cardboard boxes are only to protect the rear window, in case a meteorite falls on the roof of the garage :D .

The rear is taking shape   , it will remain (and this will be the next step I think) to reassemble the strips at the ends of the rear wing, the large strip at the bottom of the trunk lid, the small license plate lighting headlight and the trunk locks :)
