buick5563
.wmv files that I get from Mr. Earl never play. I think there is an app to allow wmv's but absolutely no Flash. I don't know any backstory (and I wouldn't tell even if I knew it) I just know that Apple systems will never run it.
NTX5467
(Perhaps there's a "virtual system" that can be loaded to allow them to run on Apple, just as you can run Word in such a virtual environment on a Mac?)Apple SPAM?? stealthbob
In the Linux world we use Wine...a Windows emulator.Mac is Linux based but proprietary...Flash is open so therefor NO CONTROL!Mac is all about total control from hardware peripherals, batteries etc.... all the way to the closed Linux based software (True Irony). I'm amazed that they allow apps, they had to I guess but they all have to be "approved" first.I guess they just think everything is just SPAM unless its a nice red Apple....vegetarians maybe???........certainly just as cult like Edited March 13, 2011 by stealthbob (see edit history)

Try downloading freeware Flip4Mac at Windows Media Components for QuickTime - Microsoft WindowsThis is all black magic to me but it allows viewing wmv files on a Mac. Seems to work for me. Thriller
Thanks for the reminder Bill. Thriller
I suppose that's a possibility...some of the processed pumpkin is in the freezer. There's a cooked pumpkin pie there too....At this point, we won't be going in the direction of the country place, so we wouldn't be doing it the same as last time. Maybe we can work in a picnic snack type idea somewhere along the way.

NTX5467
Now that is funny!Might be funny, but that's the way things were back when your 1955 Buick was "just a used car", with all due respect. There was a game show which used a UniVac computer on the show. It was "high drama" for the machine to sort through its piles of punch cards, separate them in their respective slots, with all of the flashing lights and studio orchestra's music as a part of things, too. Just can't have that sort of thing with a quad-core processor'd laptop!Fortran lasted until the middle 1970s, as a basic computer language, but is now considered tres obsolete. Those "steering wheels"! Must have been there to access the correct levels of memory? Would have been flashier if they'd had the multi-color sections and spiffy horn buttons like the fancier cars of that era had!Enjoy!NTX5467
stealthbob
Actually that was a pic of what they thought the home PC would look like in 2004! :eek:I just don't get the steering wheel....:confused:This one is real and real shocking for the price!...hell I just bought a 2 TB drive for 80 bucks the other day! Thriller
There was an updated version of Fortran that came out in '77 - learned that in first year engineering in the late '80s. I know there's at least one more updated version out there since then. Fortran would be less obsolete than that vision of the home computer.... John_Maine
$8495 in 1954 is equal to $69,922 in 2011 dollars according to an inflation calculator I just checked. Inflation rate is 722%. I remember taking a tour of my bank's computer room in the mid-70's and seeing row after row of computer banks running tapes. Then they took us into another room and showed us a computer the size of a desk and telling us that 1/2 of this computer will do the work of all of that " out there." Now look at what computers do. NTX5467
If that downsized personal computer was the advertised price, did it include the "PageMaker" software in that price? By the time we got to the 1990s, the cost of the included software, if purchased individually, was more than the price of the computer itself WITH the software already loaded.I just read the article in "Texas Monthly" on the disposition of the estate of John O'Quinn. Quite an intricate situation, were "everybody knows everybody"."SPAM 1 & 0" for the digital binary era.Enjoy!NTX5467
