NCReatta
I had a call from a woman today who is the executer of her late father's estate. In the estate is a 1956 Special wagon. Miles are unknown. Second owner, has been sitting for at least 30 years. From the pictures it's super rough but she needs to get rid of it. Anyone interested? Or can give me a ball park number on the value for her? Shoot me an email and I will get you her contact info. The car is located near Statesville, NC.Attached are some pictures. Not the greatest but it's what she sent me. JohnD1956
If it were me, that would be a $300.00 car. There is a better than average chance the frame is shot. I base that on the rusted chrome plated bar under the grill and the hole through the hood. It may not be what she wants to hear, but it is what it is. Pete Phillips
It's a good parts car for someone who is restoring one, and the wagon-only parts are very, very difficult to find. It has more than $300 worth of parts on it, for sure, and would bring at least that much just hauled across the scale at the scrapyard--perish the thought. I'd say $500 to $1000 if it is complete and the tailgate parts aren't rusted out. Add another $300 if it has the elusive rear bumper "J-bars" in good shape. But I'm too far away to make it worthwhile.Pete Phillips, BCA #7338Leonard, Texas
Barney Eaton
The drivers door make me think there are other things on the car that are in "unfinished" condition. It would be a fun project. MrEarl
Sorta like bidding on a pig in a poke ie not able to really see what you are bidding on. Did she not take any interior pictures? Only way I would be interested is if it has floors and a decent interior. A 3 speed would help also. There and back would be a full day trip for me at around $150 gas and eats. What's really hurting todays parts car game is no one is buying parts and the salvage prices are down to 5-6 cents/lb. I'd be interested in talking to her though, can you PM me her contact info. smithbrother
Interior pictures????? Might be, if you opened a door, the roof would fall in. 56buickinga
I'd be interested but I'd have to wrangle a trailer from somewhere to attach to the buick hauler. As noted the price to get it here would be about as much as the price of purchasing.

Bhigdog
Anything can be restored if your pockets are deeeep and stomach strong. I don't see that as being anything but a parts car for wagon specific parts worth whatever over scrap value is salvageable, less time and labor to fetch the thing and strip the parts.............Bob Edited July 7, 2015 by Bhigdog (see edit history)
Larry Schramm
Low production numbers and very few remaining vehicles does not equate to valuable. I recently scrapped two Chevrolet Corvair Station wagons because the only offers that I received for them was LESS than SCRAP value. Probably coming back to the US as new toasters by now.
JohnD1956
That's a real shame Larry. Corvair wagons have to be really rare. These must have been in very tough shape.
Larry Schramm
John,The real issue that I could not get even one person to pay scrap price for the cars, so off to the scrap yard they went with all of the trim, parts, etc... They only wanted to pay about 1/2 of the scrap price.

MrEarl
The lady handling the sale stated she would try and take additional pictures and email me. It is my understanding she lives an hour or so from the car. Jon are you back in Georgia or still in Las Vegas. If still in Vegas and you are sincerely interested in the car and I can be of any help let me know.

I'm somewhat interested if the price is fair I'm in the same situation as you gas/eats/travel will add a bit to the overall cost.
Mark Shaw
You guys will eat anyway, so that shouldn't figure into the cost... A couple of PBJs is all you need to go get a car...
MrEarl
I know what a PBR is but PBJ?

Thriller
PBRs go down well too, but not while driving to get a car.
Frank DuVal
Larry, Did you post ads for the Corvair wagons on a forum like Corvair Center Forum? At least you get exposure to more Corvair people who need parts. A good wagon windshield will fetch good money these days, especially if tinted. But, rusty bodies, not so much. I've seen a lot that were not worth scrap price.
