  1. Here is a good article from Popular Mechanics How to Repair Your Defroster Grids - Popular Mechanics
  2. If you look at the anchoring of current seat belts in vehicles they are attached to a fairly large backing plate that has rounded edges so if there is any pull on the plate they will not tear into the metal. Years ago my Dad installed seat belts in a 59 Buick and drilled holes in the body and used very large (2+inch) diameter washers on both sides of the body with the installation bolts. If I was doing it now I might use the washer solution if I might plan on removing the seat belts. If not, I would try to purchase the current threaded backing plate that is used in current vehicles. IMO, I would not attach to the frame as if the vehicle body moved in an accident the seat belt might not and the force would be on the occupant. This is just an opinion and does not constitute the correct installation of seat belts in a vehicle not designed for them. Please do your own research and determine if you did install seat belts the best place to install them.

P.M.O., what does the Opel Insignia today have to do with WW II? That is the point in question. Have you and I worked together? I spent a fair amount of time in Oshawa on the launch of the 88 Regal and other work at the main office of GM of Canada. I am probably limited to knowledge of GM history, but I also retired from GM with 36+ years and my family was working for Buick when Billy Durant was running the show at GM.

    And your point is??
  5. I have a 98 Chevy Astro van and I do tow an open car trailer with it and some of my trucks with it, but.......I am careful to not put too large of a load on it. I tow my Buick trucks and an 8N tractor on the open trailer with it. It has trailer towing option and well maintained brakes with the electric controller and use an equalizer hitch. The towing capacity is listed as 5,000 pounds and I am careful to stay in that range. I also drive very conservative not trying to be fast in the fast lane. It is a 2 wheel drive which gives it a 500# higher towing capacity. Like everything else, common sense is of the utmost importance. It currently has 228,000 miles and is my everyday driver. It is not large enough to tow an enclosed trailer. Look here for some more info on the Astro & Safari vans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Astro
  6. Here is my contribution to a future Buick driver. In fact he is now 17.
  7. The wire connectors look like Packard Electric from the 60's
  8. You have the common disease that most of us have. Lack of space to work/play with our toys. I know I have the same problem.
  9. It is an SAE standard. It is like SIR wiring is identified with Yellow. Anything over 30(25?) volts AC or 60 volts DC is considered high voltage and must be identified with orange. SAE standard J1127 defines low/high voltage in vehicles and J1673 defines the orange color. Typically the requirements stated the color need to be traffic cone orange. Look at this document including page 6 for additional information. http://www.pdftop.com/view/aHR0cDovL2F2dC5pbmVsLmdvdi9wZGYvYWlycG9ydC9lZ3NlX2VsZWN0cmljX2FpcmNyYWZ0X3B1c2hiYWNrX3RyYWN0b3Jfc3BlY2lmaWNhdGlvbl8yMDA4LnBkZg==
  10. I was the engineer for the high voltage cables on the Chevrolet Volt and others before I retired. If it was orange I probably did it on the GM hybrids. I was Larry the cable guy.
  11. I have a friend of mine that has a plain jane pea green metallic Pontiac Tempest that belonged to his grandmother. He is so proud of that car and he takes it to car shows to be part of the experience.
  12. You might want to think of the current Malibu/Aura/Vue hybrid systems. They use a motor/generator to start the engine in stop & go traffic. Kind of like a golf cart. I am guessing that is what they are going to use on the LaCrosse, but do not know. This system on the Malibu/Aura/Vue is completely different from the full size trucks that have electric motors in the transmission.
  13. And while you are at it, Sault St. Marie, MI is pronunced Sue St. Marie.
  14. Are they 1929 Kissels according to the caption?
  15. Craig, If you cannot find a puller and have a good hub cap, I can give you the name of a guy that will make you a puller for about $125.00. I looked everywhere for one for my truck and ended up just getting one made. He does good work and it was well worth it.
  16. Can someone identify this water pump? Thanks, 1910s-1920s BUICK WATERPUMP CORE BRASS PIT-COCK VALVE - eBay (item 110610989705 end time Nov-19-10 19:38:33 PST)
  17. Not to be picky, But for clarificaton on refrigerant, Freon is a trademark product of The Dupont Corp and refers to refrigerant R-12. The refrigerant used in todays automobiles is R-134A. There is word that there is another new refrigerant going to be used starting in 2012 called R-1234YZ which will probably have another type of cap. I have not heard if this refrigerant will be retrofittable back.
  18. The truck is on the west side of Michigan in Mt. Pleasant. Here is your chance to join the small group of us with trucks. You can thank BuickRacer for forwarding listing to me. Thanks Roberta.
  19. According to the license plate it looks like the picture is from 1923 or 1924.
  20. I like my Corvette. In the center behind the rear window. Kind of like the Model A, except that was in the center in front of the windshield (windscreen for our friends across the pond)

  22. If I was guessing based on what I have read, it might be a Canadian built chassis that was shipped to Europe and a body attached....maybe, but I am not positive.
  23. I agree with Brad. If you plan on driving your vehicle at all I would consider having new wheels being made. It is the safest course of action. And at maybe $300.00 perwheel compared to one breaking while driving, it is cheap insurance.
