  1. Typically an assembly plant would run about 50-60 cars an hour. Might be a little higher or lower depending on demand. The 50-60 cars an hour are vehicles being built and shipped as complete units out the door. The number of hours are usually 8 hours a day 5 days a week Monday through Friday. If there is a great demand then the line would run longer maybe 9 or 10 hours a day and maybe Saturday also. Anything more than 40 hours a week is overtime and would be because of high demand for that vehicle. The 50-60 vehicles/hour does not include specialty vehicles like large trucks, small volume like the Reatta, SSR, Viper, etc and other limited production vehicles. Those vehicles might be as low as 5-10/hour depending on production capability which hopefully would match sales expectations. I cannot tell you what a particular plant run rate was for a particular year because the run rate would change depending on demand, etc.
  2. My 1918 Buick truck-original from the factory as a truck was built on a 1918 D-35 4 cylinder car chassis. That type of usage was not unusual as others have said.

  7. I have seen the rim spreaders go from $10-$75 with usually in the $20-$50 range. Is the item in the second picture some sort of tool? Also is the double handle maybe a load tiedown for a truck?

    If you have a good hub cap, I can give you the name of a guy that made one for me for my 1915 truck. It was about $125.00 and worth every penny. I had been looking for a puller for 5 years at Hershey and other places with no luck.

  12. I agree with Reatta Man. I also make a copy of every car part receipt with a warranty and staple the original receipt to the copy. It has saved me quite a bit of coin on lifetime warranty parts at many of the parts stores. I also have a folder for each of my vehicles including trailers and keep all receipts together for each vehicle.

  14. If you can post some pictures of the distributor cap, I can tell you if it is the correct cap. Top & bottom will work best.
  15. Dyanflash8, I would like to give you some confidence in the GM vehciles. I currently have a 98 Chevrolet Astro van that has 228,000 miles. From Detroit area it has been to Fla twice, Chickasha,Ok., and Hershey in last year. The trips to Fla once was towing a trailer with one of the Buick trucks on it. With good maintenance, the cars just run & run & run.
  16. As usual, a good price is what a willing seller and willing buyer will make the exchange at. Seriously, I think trucks are really cool, but they do not bring as much money as cars.

  20. Mass/weight reduction/savings could have been one of the objectives along with the gears being quieter.
  21. With the pulley on the end, I agree that it is a generator. Maybe an aftermarket part as an accessory??
  22. I would use the hood adhesive to rebond the hood to the supports. If you do use the adhesive, be sure to get the adhesive that is made for hoods and not the generic body adhesive. The hood adhesive has some sort of characteristics that will not pull the outer panel to the support and show a wavy surface.
  23. If my memory is correct the fast back Century/Regal were only made for 2 years, 1978 & 1979. They were discontinued because of lack of sales. The regular 2 door Regals and 4 door Century were great sellers. In fact the 4 door models were sold as a little limousine.
