53ponty- from the twenty-third edition of the Hollander Manual it shows that the '49-'54 6 cylinder Pontiac used the same starter which was #1107107 which replaced #1107079. If you have a Power Glide transmission the number listed is #1107144 for that year only. The folks of the Early Times Chapter of the Pontiac-Oakland Club International(POCI) are a great resource of knowledge. Please consider them if you haven't met and joined the group. The Hollander Manual for that period lists the #17046 Buick '26-27 Standard and Master as the interchange with the note "see #29" which has it numbered as 640J.

Phil, It hooks into a steel dowel pin on the raised boss of the flywheel cover. The pin has an appropriate hole to receive the spring. Dave

Hello Summershandy, Just recently brought my car out of winter storage and was able to take a few photos which may help you. This is the center section for the battery cover which you have. Notice the right end has a tab extending downward which presses into the right side of your cover in post #7 and the left end will fit under your tab of the existing cover. Hope this helps- Dave

I may be able to offer some clarification. My information is coming from the Standard Catalog of Pontiac, 2nd edition by John Gunnel. From the job number which you have given-- #8940 is a 1929 model year, 2d sedan, series 6-29. The engine number which you have given--P617435 falls into what is listed as a 1929-1/2 Pontiac with engine numbers starting at P608157 and ending at 673500. The body style number for 1929-1/2 Pontiac is A8940. 1929 Pontiac engine numbers range from starting at P376341 to end at P461000(approx). 1930 Pontiac engine numbers range from P673501 to P744000(approx) I am assuming a late body for 1929 combined with an early 1929-1/2 engine. The number 526865 is not referenced but is it the casting number of the block? I can find no reference to the CWC in the Abbreviations section of the book. I guess we don't have all of your answers but we're off to a good start. Good luck- Dave

Don, Thanks so much for your advice and encouragement- I was able to remove the tower by carefully working a putty knife under all of its edges to loose it from the gasket. I then was able to complete a repair that was necessary and reassemble with a gasket sealant. The most difficult part of the job was to re-attach the chains which drive the wiper. The entire job was successful and I now have both wipers working as they should. Thanks again- Dave

Don, By looking up under the dash I can see this clamp. It does come off easily. I'm hesitant to pry or force the unit for fear of breaking. I'll be working at it quite gingerly. Thanks again- Dave

I would like to remove the wiper transmission from the drivers side on my '37 Pontiac for rebuilding purposes. Looking up under the dash I find that the chain which drives the wiper is off. I can also remove the drive arm which goes to the the wiper motor from the transmission. My question- at this point how do I remove the transmission from the cowl? This unit really appears to be stuck (fastened) in place. Thanks for any help to get me started- Dave
