I would like to remove the wiper transmission from the drivers side on my '37 Pontiac for rebuilding purposes. Looking up under the dash I find that the chain which drives the wiper is off. I can also remove the drive arm which goes to the the wiper motor from the transmission. My question- at this point how do I remove the transmission from the cowl? This unit really appears to be stuck (fastened) in place. Thanks for any help to get me started- Dave

1951 Pontiac Chieftain front fender spear molding clips?
straight8pontiac replied to a topic in Pontiac Flathead Owners
51Pontiac, I restored a 1953 Pontiac a number of years ago and was able to find the proper fasteners from Restoration Specialties and Supply, Windber, PA. Look online at restorationspecialties.com. Then the heading- on line shopping. Left column- moulding bolts and moulding fasteners. I dealt with them multiple times and was very pleased with the service. Good luck- Dave -
Wayne, You are correct. Using a Pontiac Chassis Parts book from 1941, it lists the transmission case with that number(553511) being used on a Pontiac 8 for 1932. Dave

Mission accomplished! After marking the pinion shaft and nut as well as measuring the depth of the nut on the shaft with a caliper, removal and reassembly went well. Thanks for everyone's input- a good learning experience. -

I am preparing to replace the pinion bearing oil seal at the differential on my 1953 Pontiac. Two questions come to mind: 1. To remove the outer flange to pinion nut- is this a right or left hand thread? 2. When putting the pinion nut back on- what torque value is given to this nut? Thanks in advance for any help. Dave

I am looking to buy a harmonic balancer with attached pulley for a 1953/54 Pontiac straight 8 engine with standard steering. According to the Master Parts catalog, a unit from 1937 to 1954 from an 8 cylinder engine will work. It has a part no. 511499. I will be at Hershey. Thanks for any help- Dave.

I am in need of a good straight 8 block for a 1953/54 Pontiac for rebuilding or a short block which has been rebuilt. This will hook up to the hydramatic transmission. If at all possible I'm looking in the New England area of New York, Vermont, or Mass. I would also consider a complete motor which has been rebuilt. Thanks in advance for any help. Dave.
