  1. I am trying to help a friend who is in the process of rebuilding a 1937 Pontiac 6 cylinder engine. All four of the main bearings will be replaced. Can someone please tell me what the main bearing housing bore diameters would be for each of the four main bearings. It is our understanding that each is different. Thanks in advance for any help with this matter. Dave.

  3. From the information I have available here are two different possibilities depending on the car model that you have. Chieftain model - 6 or 8 cylinder - model #2527(sedan coupe) 2527B(business coupe) 2537(catalina coupe) 2567(convertible coupe). These use the same decklid trim #514556. Streamliner model - 6 or 8 cylinder - model #2507(sedan Coupe). These use decklid trim #514558. Hope this helps and good luck on your search. Dave.

  5. Pontiac used straight 6's and 8's through 1954 and then introduced its first V8 with the 1955 models. According to the 1949-54 shop manual, an internal cleaner in the oil pan was used "consisting of a settling chamber concentric with the oil inlet tube. When oil reaches the top of the oil inlet tube, its direction is changed so that it flows down the outside of the inlet tube until it strikes a flat baffle and its direction is sharply reversed. At this point, dirt particles which are heavier than oil are thrown out of the oil stream into the settling chamber where they gradually settle or precipitate until they rest on the bottom of the basin. Since oil below the flat baffle is not disturbed by the flow of the oil above the baffle, the dirt does not again enter the oil stream". Again from the shop manual- "External type oil filters or cleaners are not necessary or desirable on Pontiac cars and no provision has been made for their installation". Hope this sheds some light on the system used. Dave.

I understand that this pattern and size are out of production so any help would be greatly appreciated. Please email at vze543gm@verizon.net. Thank you- Dave.
