Why isn’t your daily driver a stick shift?
LARRYCAROL replied to mrcvs's topic in General Discussion
A friend wanted to buy 2018 Jetta gli 6 speed for his daughter. I test drove it and all good, so he bought it. Yesterday he and daughter go to mall parking lot (closed on Sunday) for her first lesson. I get a call they can’t get it in gear and smell burning! Car is now at local shop for repairs 😩. What did he do wrong, I don’t know, but expensive lesson. I think learning on an old car is much easier and probably cheaper. -

Sounds like now is the time to put come miles on it 😄. A reward for all your hard work! -
What engine is in there now? 221; 239? Or smaller 60hp v8.

We had a 61 Dodge Dart Pioneer, 2 door hardtop. 318 with powerflite automatic (last year available). Had powers brakes but manual steering. Dart had slightly smaller wheelbase and different taillights but same grill.

I worked in car dealers almost 50 years & have seen enough to make me a worrier, So my wife got AAA premium. When or Jetta fuel pump died at 10 o’clock on Sunday night, they were there in 20 minutes. We have taken trips in our 65 Galaxie and I worried about breakdowns. Traveled to Vermont & Hershey (9/10 times) only to have our Ford die 10 miles from home😄. Again AAA was there in 20 minutes with flatbed. No charge just give your number & sign. I say enjoy the ride 😎, but have towing insurance is good to have.

I remember the cast of wagon train doing commercials for new Fords, but best was the 4 guys from Bonanza each showing one of the new Chevy models, impala, corvette, corvair, Chevy II . That was at intro of new model year. Anyone else remember that? -

Great pictures Bob, but what is that building? Looks like an old locomotive shop! -
Probably one of the worst timing lights ever for my 48 DeSoto!
LARRYCAROL replied to marcapra's topic in Technical
In a pinch you can always static time it. Roll engine over by hand and line up the timing mark. Remove distributor cap. Loosen distributor & retard . Turn on key and advance till points spark, tighten distributor and replace cap. We used this method on old VW beetles. Crude but works. -
Looks like dirt circle track stock car racing. Early 50s judging by the Nash pace car. At one time there were a lot over these small town tracks.

If you check Hershey region site they have maps of area showing fields &parking lots. Signs will direct you to parking. Show is free parking is not, handicapped parking is by Giant center. As stated good shoes a must, I carry extra socks & water. We enjoy car corral & auction preview at Hershey lodge(can’t afford to buy😎) . If you can stay for the show on Friday you will not be disappointed.

1985 Ford F150 pick up truck 4.9 litre engine emission repairs
LARRYCAROL replied to Don Jr.'s topic in General Discussion
You mentioned emissions testing, does your state require testing of vehicle that old? Here in NJ it is not required. That’s with or without antique plates. -
I wonder when engine swap was done? Cadillac v8 was popular in early 50s. Powerful & fairly lightweight very modern for its time.

LARRYCAROL replied to human-potato_hybrid's topic in The Unrestored Car Appreciation Forum
Beautiful!! Can you post pictures of under hood? Looking like t-bird emblem on fender😳 so possible 312 or 292. -
I remember a lot of techs using Seafoam additives. In tank or hooked up to a vacuum line. I tried it on my van through vacuum line and it smoked a lot, took long drive up highway after to clear it all out. I also remember Chevy field rep pouring water down carb on a v8 with a knock! He said if it didn’t fix it he would authorize a new motor 😃

As far as flooding in concerned, in some areas hot water heaters are in the garage. Flood puts out the pilot light on the old heater! Very dangerous 😳

LARRYCAROL replied to Xander Wildeisen's topic in General Discussion
Yes, used my belt to tie steering wheel the vent window frame😎. Short low speed tow, no problem 🙂
