  1. My car trailer is also on my policy that insures my modern vehicles. It has been insured that way since the day I purchased it.
  2. Be advised that the show field at Fall Hershey is located on parts of a former golf course. A number of years ago the Hershey area got Very HEAVY rains during Hershey week which flooded roads and parts of the area. I walked the show field the night before the show and the field had drained well and was darn firm for the amount of rain that week. The next day the show field held up very well under all the weight and traffic of the show cars. As far as weather goes, bring a WIDE variety of clothing for all types and temperatures of weather. One never knows what weather we will see at Fall Hershey each year.
  3. I was at Das Awkscht Fescht yesterday with my DPC 1985 VW. I registered that car specifically because it has working A/C which I knew I would need for the trip home after spending 6-7+ hours in the heat at Macungie. This year I lucked out because they moved Class #4 to the area between Gates #2 & #3 which had some trees with shade. That helped some of us who are not getting any younger and needed a shady place to sit down after walking the show field and flea market. I had some nice conversations with other car owners at the show which were very interesting. During those conversations some of the owners spoke about other older cars in their collections. These same owners decided to bring cars they owned that were newer specifically because those cars had working A/C in them. Many of these car owners drove 1-3+ hours to DAF and wanted the A/C. With real temperatures in the mid to upper 80s and the real feel temperature (factoring in the humidity) in the low-mid 90s it is understandable why at least some car owners felt the way they did. I know I appreciated having the A/C for my 1 hour trip home. That kept me cool even when an impatient person driving a pickup truck tailed gated me for a few miles then passed me over a double yellow line on a two lane road. I guess me driving at or slightly above the posted speed limit wasn't fast enough for this impatient person. Yes the flea market appeared smaller this year but that is nothing new as it has been shrinking in size for at least a few years prior to 2020-2021. Regardless, I had a good time at DAF and plan to go again next year.
  4. I registered to Judge last night and printed the paperwork and mailed it along with a check along with two SASEs. One for confirmation of my registration and one for parking passes. At the bottom of the Judging paperwork there is a note to send a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to Ron to receive parking passes which will be mailed 2 weeks prior to the show. On the paperwork I had to indicate if I needed a parking pass for the Judging School on Thursday and/or the Judging Breakfast on Friday. Ron Rubinstein 256 E.   5. Mailed my paperwork for the Car Show and Judging this morning. Add one more car to the show and one more judge to the judging team.
  6. I plan to be there with my 1985 VW Golf. Hard to believe it is 37 years old now. It is a nice way to spend a Saturday seeing old cars and old friends and making new ones.
  7. I'm very happy that the crab cake vendor has two locations and on show day moves one of their trailers over to the show. For me, having their sandwiches has been a Hershey tradition for many years.
  8. Jim, How are your 16 inch ST tires from this manufacturer holding up/performing for you? How many miles do you have on them now? Thanks....
  9. Option "C" (is use BOTH locations). Make up two To Do Lists, one for home garage, one for barn. Do all the "Barn" tasks (grinding, painting, chemicals, etc) in the spring/summer/fall. Do all the "Home Garage" tasks in the winter. Distance to the barn, lack of heat in the barn and any decent amount of snow on the ground will have a negative impact on progress for this project if you do it exclusively at the barn. BTW, I did a full restoration in one-half of my two car garage at home. I took the shell to a body shop for the body and paint work. Did have the fumes concern, etc. Box fans and a partially open garage door helped a lot. The almost completely disassembled car (did not disassemble the engine) took up every square inch of space (except bathrooms) in my 1,900+ sq ft home. Ahhhh, the advantage of being single... FYI, when I pulled the engine out of my project vehicle I moved the car parked in the other garage bay outside for the day but that was not during the winter. There was NO WAY if was going to do that task and certain others with my other car in the garage. Using both locations might be an option for you if you can move the car and/or it's parts between both locations as the tasks or time of year dictate.
  10. Bob, I think it is very important to clearly define what a "Dorm Room" is. I have been at colleges with traditional "Dorm Rooms" that are rooms with 1 or more beds in them on a hall with a dozen or more rooms that all share a common bathroom. I have been at other colleges whose "Dorm Rooms" are actually apartments (but are referred to as "Dorms") with one or more bedrooms that have a living room, dining room, kitchen (with appliances) and full bathroom. If you are talking about the former, most people would not like them. If you are talking about the latter, more people might consider it.
  11. Since you ask about buying the trailer back can we assume you are carrying Comprehensive coverage on the trailer?? If not you have no decision to make. Otherwise...... It would be in your best interest to FULLY UNDERSTAND the pros and cons of letting your insurance company classify your trailer as "TOTALED" BEFORE you make your decision. Some of the pros and cons are related to how or if you can even insure the trailer going forward. Other pros & cons are related to how the title of the trailer may change and how that can impact the value of the trailer when it is sold in the future. If you live in a state that requires that the trailer undergo a periodic safety inspections, that is a whole other can of worms and potential cost to get a "Totaled" trailer back on the road. Did the hail damage the roof of the trailer such that is now leaks water into the inside when it rains? If the hail damage is purely cosmetic, is it really worth a whole host of potential future headaches for the $$$$ the insurance company is offering to total it?
  12. First of all, very nice Cordoba. Lots of good information in this thread. I suspect we will see the Toyota Prius on the show field sometime soon since the first generation was introduced in 1997 and is 25 years old this year. That should make for some interesting times when it comes to Judging/Evaluating, especially the engines. I suspect there will be a CJE for Hybrids in the not too distant future. I recently purchased a new RAV4 Hybrid after my 20 year old daily driver was totaled by an idiot who rear ended me. The engine and drivetrain are totally different compared to an ICE vehicle. Weird having two cooling systems, virtually no belts for things like alternators, AC, etc. , 12V battery located in rear hatch area, two motors one driving the front wheels and the other driving the rear wheels in addition to the ICE driving the front wheels.

  15. Steve, I agree with you 110%............ I too had the pleasure of seeing the Jim Taylor car collection while attending last year's spring meet in Saratoga, NY. He spent 2 hours+ with our morning tour group (there was an afternoon group as well I believe) going through the entire facility talking about the history of many of the vehicles, telling some entertaining stories about his experiences with them and passing on some little know information about them. He was a very gracious host and was always willing to answer the many questions we put to him. One could tell this man really loves cars and sharing them with others. Simply put, he is one heck of a Car Guy. I am SO Glad I had the opportunity to meet him and see his collection. It was one of the highlights of the Saratoga National for me that I will always remember.
  16. Peter, Best wishes for a speedy recovery! My daily work commute is full of Amish Buggies, Amish people using bicycles and bicycle enthusiasts (sometimes by themselves or in groups). Most of the back roads I use have no shoulders, are not very wide and a few have curves with limited or no sight distance. I always give all of these people PLENTY of room. Sadly other drivers do not always do that which can be dangerous for all sharing the road especially those riding bicycles without helmets. Have you contacted the manufacturer of your helmet? They might be very interested to see how their product performed in a real world accident situation.

  18. Marty, Unfortunately (for me) going from my current 15 inch trailer tires to 16 inch trailer tires involves multiple challenges. First, my trailer currently has a 5 bolt pattern on it's 3500lb Dexter Torsion axles. From what I have seen most 16 inch wheels use either a 6 or 8 bolt pattern. (Strike One) Next, the differences between 15 inch and 16 inch tires when it comes to Diameter (+3.7") Sidewall (+1.3") and width (+1.2") present one or more challenges when it come to fitting in the wheel wells of my trailer. (Strike Two) Then there is the cost of 6 new, 16inch wheels. (Strike Three) Sadly, for my situation, there are just too many things working against me using the Sailun tires. It would be much easier and less costly (for me) if Sailun just made a 15 inch tire. That obviously is not going to happen if they have not made one by now and I am okay with that.
  19. Thanks Jim... I have known since the beginning where Maxxis tires are made. My last set were made in Thailand and I have no trouble with that. Before the Maxxis tires I had Goodyear Marathons (Made in the USA) that didn't last 3 years before they had issues even though I ALWAYS keep my tires PROPERLY inflated and COVERED when not being used. When Goodyear would not stand behind their product I decided to take my business elsewhere. Way back when, the original tires that came on my trailer were made in China and I got many miles out of them before they age out for me. BTW, I also know where Sailun tires are made as well. It is obvious from this thread that where they are made does not matter to those here who buy them since they are a well made tire.
  20. It is time for me to replace the tires on my trailer. Unfortunately, Sailun still does not make a tire for those of us that need a 15 inch tire. Too bad. I wish they would help those of us out that need a smaller size tire. Oh well I guess it is another set of Maxxis M8008 Plus Load Range D tires for me.
  21. Was wondering if any of the tours scheduled for Thursday and Friday are sold out as of 03/25? Unfortunately, I have to hold off registering until the last minute so I understand if the tours are booked up. Thanks....
  22. My local WAWA installed 8 Tesla charging stations a month or two ago. So far I saw ONE vehicle actually using them. Funny part was the owner was sitting inside the vehicle while it was charging with it's lights on and probably running the heat. No extra store sales there.
