Marty, Friends of mine that live in Maryland used to have the Maryland EZ Pass. When I told them what the annual fee was for my Pennsylvania EZ Pass they returned their MD EZ Pass and got a Pennsylvania one. It appears that the current annual fee for a PA EZ Pass is $3.00. Speaking of moving the convention around... Maybe at some point in a future year it can move North of the Mason-Dixon Line once in a while? Not saying it has to be Philly but it seems a LOT of people do like the Gettysburg, PA area among other places for a convention.

There are a few vendors that specifically sell VW parts at Fall Hershey but there are not a lot of them and they are usually scattered all over the various fields. Like 46 woodie posted they are listed in the Hershey Program Guide. When it comes to VW Parts, I have found that over the last 20 years finding VW parts are an Easter Egg Hunt or a Treasure Hunt. By that I mean VW Parts are usually a box or a few parts buried or under the table of a vendor whose main focus is non VW parts. In some cases, that works to the buyer's advantage since the vendor may be more motivated to negotiate to just get rid of "those parts" than to make a huge profit. Since my VW's are from the 1980s and are water-cooled finding parts for me is next to impossible at Fall Hershey. On those very rare occasions, I truly considered my find as hitting the lottery. Then again, that is one of the things (ie "the hunt") that makes Fall Hershey special.

Nice looking Tundra you have there. I have an 2012 Tundra. In case you are not aware, the 2nd generation Tundra has a weight carrying hitch limit of 500 lbs and trailer weight limit of 5000 lbs. In order to attain the Tundra's maximum hitch and trailer limits (approximately 1000 lbs on the hitch and 10,000 lb trailer weight, a weight distributing hitch is required per Toyota. I use a weight distributing hitch with sway control on my Tundra when towing my loaded, enclosed, car trailer (about 6,000 lbs). Never have a problem with sagging or swaying. No airbags or extra springs necessary for me when towing.

One of the best purchases you can make as soon as you get to the swap meet is to purchase a program book. This book contains maps of all the swap meet fields and lists of all the vendors and a LOT of other useful information especially for a first time attendee. It makes a great keepsake as well. I have one from every Fall Hershey I have ever attended. If you have a limited amount of time to explore the swap meet, this program book can help you identify vendors that may have items you are looking for, where they are located and how to get to them in the most time efficient manner.

I remember the Chick-Fil-A truck at the Giant Center as well. Was it also on the show field during the show? Cannot seem to remember seeing it there. Then again, I was busy judging for a few hours that day.

Sadly, back in 2010 I had a family emergency two days before I was scheduled to leave for this event and had to cancel my plans. I had hoped there might be an Anniversary event like the 75th when the AACA turned 85 but other things happened back then. In 2025 (1+ years from now) the AACA will celebrate it's 90th Anniversary. Might be nice to have another celebration like the one in 2010. That would be especially nice for those that missed the 75th or were not members back then. Does that facility where the 75th was held still exist or is there similar one like it? Now that the new AACA building is done, I'm sure Steve M. is looking for another special project to do in his spare time. 😁 😉

This VW definitely turned heads at Fall Hershey that year. I doubt some people know exactly how RARE this vehicle actually is. If memory serves there were around only 650 or so of these vehicles made (ie 1 for every dealership in the USA at that time). This vehicle actually resides on the Hershey area.

From the details that Steve posted this appears to be the HERCO lot directly across HersheyPark Blvd from the Red Field. It has been my experience over the years that this field has always permitted RVs with trailers to park there. For a few years I stayed with friends in their RV on this lot. Once or twice I parked my truck and trailer next to their RV and trailer. Unless something changed last year you should be able to park a trailer with your RV here.

I am fortunate that I still have a family owned/operated shop that works on my old vehicles. Dad retired about a year ago, The son runs the shop and the used car lot and the daughter runs the office. Both are in their early-mid 50s so the clock is ticking. I still do the simple things on my old vehicles like oil changes, water pumps, hoses and other simple maintenance tasks. If it requires a lift or is something I do not want to do (ie a timing belt and tensioner on an interference engine) then the vehicle goes to them. There are very few shops around here that have the expertise to work on old vehicles. Smaller shops that work on new vehicles are also disappearing faster than they used to as well. Not a good, long term, prognosis for small shops in general.

I have had an EZ-Pass device for 15+ years now and save a lot of $$$$ over those years. A few things to keep in mind about EZ-Pass: - An EZ-Pass can save you $$$ on a number of toll roads not just the PA Turnpike. For instance the Ohio Turnpike, NY State Thru-Way, the Atlantic City Expressway and others offer discounts in addition to the PA Turnpike. It can also be used on ALL the Philadelphia /NJ Bridges, some if not all the NY city bridges, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and others. Discounts (if any) vary for bridge tolls. - EZ-Pass does charge a yearly fee for your account. Different states have EZ-Pass and there are differences in the yearly fee. For example the fee for my Pennsylvania EZ-Pass account is $3/year. Friends of mine had an EZ-Pass account in Maryland which had a higher yearly fee. They canceled their Maryland account and opened up a Pennsylvania account. FYI, this account fee is just for the account and is the same fee regardless of what vehicles & or trailers are on the account. - Back in 2019 I attended the Grand National in Auburn. Round trip I saved $45 compared to the cash toll prices on the Ohio & PA turnpikes. - My EZ-Pass account is setup to recharge the account with $35 (the minimum amount) from one of my credit cards. When I took the trip to Auburn I manually added more funds to the account before I left on the trip. Once I got there and saw the cost of the tolls I manually added more money to the account to cover the return trip. Had I not done that the EZ-Pass system would have seen the spike in my toll usage and would have increased the minimum recharge amount ($35) automatically to cover the higher tolls. Currently I have my daily driver SUV, pickup truck and trailer on my EZ-Pass Account. I also have my AACA DPC car on the account as well. In years past I had more vehicles on the account. I plan to drive my DPC car to Hershey in October. Given the current toll rates for this trip (2 exits on the PA TP) I will save $3.70 compared to the non EZ-Pass rate each way. From the Pennzoil website in the ad: MAINTAINING THE WARRANTY 1. Change your vehicle's oil and oil filer at least as often as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer 2. Replace the air filter and air cleaner elements, maintain the emission control system and follow scheduled engine maintenance in accordance with the vehicle's manufacturer recommendations 3. Update your oil change records online at least once every twelve (12) months, even if no oil change has taken place, on this website 4. Remember: Save all service receipts in order to be eligible for reimbursement under this warranty The way I read #1 is that you are REQUIRED to change the oil not that it lasts 500K miles. Pennzoil is saying that if you use their oil (and perform other maintenance, etc) your engine will last 500K.

As far as the automatic high/low beam systems go, I have noticed that some makers of modern vehicles have poorly designed systems while others actually put some thought into them and they work quite well. Case in point, my 2022 Toyota SUV's system works very well. If I want to control the high beams manually I simply push a single button on the dash and it is disabled. When the system is on it sees oncoming vehicles and turns off the high beams before the oncoming driver is blinded (including on four-lane divided highways with medians). When I am behind another vehicle the system turns off the high beams WELL BEFORE (ie many 100s of feet) that vehicle's rearview mirror will blind the driver. Too bad some other vehicle maker's systems do not work as well. I do have to wonder if some people turn off the automatic system in newer vehicles and switch the high beams on/off manually. That would definitely explain some of what I see almost every day of the roads in my area.

Given how insurance valuations are determined by what the owner wants them to be, how can those numbers be used to place a value on a vehicle for it's market worth? If one makes up a number for an insurance value isn't the market value, by definition, a made up number as well? Interesting to note that the "value" of a vehicle factors into the insurance premium one pays. If an owner perceives (or reads in an article) that the "value" of their vehicle is increasing and raises it's insured value doesn't the insurance company benefit financially? Hmmmmm. Anyone else receive their Antique Automobile Insurance bill recently? I did and noticed an 18% INCREASE over last year (which was also a fairly large increase over the prior year). No changes in the policy what-so-ever and no claims. I wonder if Hagerty will attend at Fall Hershey this year? Might be time to do some comparison shopping with some other companies to see how they compare.

Maybe the Hershey Region should consider adding a page to their Fall Hershey website with this information like a "What's New at Fall Hershey This Year" section? AACA National should put this information on the AACA Facebook Page and post it in this forum for those here that do not do FB as well. The more eyeballs that see this information the better. New food options are great but if the majority of people attending Fall Hershey do not know about the new food vendors or food options they may not be financially successful enough to keep them around next year.

I am a member of a couple of forums that require an introduction post be made by a brand new member in an New Member Forum. Once that post has been made and reviewed the new member can post in whatever other forum they want. I am not sure how the forum software restricts posting access to only the New Member Forum for a single post but it does. With an initial control of posts for new members like this, it virtually ELIMINATES the mass spam posts we see here from time to time.

Those dealers that have been marking up the price of their vehicles by obscene amounts of money are only bolstering the automakers case for eliminating the dealers from the selling equation. For those dealers I would not shed a single tear if that happened. Keep in mind that having manufacturers sell directly to consumers is not perfect by any means either. If a manufacturer decides to reduce the price of their vehicles by 1000s of dollars you can bet that buyers of those vehicles before the price cut will suffer and not be happy about it.

If everything is not committed for the 2024 Annual Meeting it might not have been a good idea to add it to the calendar on page 10 of the May/June 2023 Club Magazine. No exact date just February 2024 and a City & State. Is this a typo? Charlie

One has to wonder what the chassis, brake and suspension components look like being parked on stones like that.

Too bad the roads & drivers in Berks Co. are not like the rural areas of Lanc Co.

Because of the drivers I have to share the roads with here in eastern PA, I usually "exercise" my old cars when or where the roads are not as crowded, I also do not run errands with them given how these people drive and park in parking lots. I'd rather not be the bug that gets nailed by a bigger vehicle which happens more than once per week at the traffic light near my house. BTW, I used to have a 20 year old daily driver with regular tags on my regular auto policy. I would probably still be driving that car today except for the fact that an idiot who was not paying attention when driving rear ended me and totaled it. Thank God he hit me because he probably would have hit and severely injured the three little girls I had stopped for at that School Crossing. One other consolation was that he was driving and totaled his Father-In-Laws vehicle.
