I tried to install the upper spacers in my '56 and I couldn't get the spring to compress enough to fit it in, so I left it off. No problem with noise or clanking.
I believe that an electric windshield wiper motor from a '55 - '57 Chevrolet will interchange. The switch is on the motor and you use the original cable to operate it.
I have converted my 1956 Buick air cleaner from oil bath to paper filter. It can be changed back in a few minutes.
You need a conversion ring from the 4 1/8" carb to a 5" ring on the paper element. And the filter holder itself.

I have used Pertronix units in all of my Buicks (at least 7 of them) and in 3 Corvettes for the last 25 years with absolutely no problems with any of them.
