  1. The access hole that these are often equipped with is actually for a grease fitting for the rear splined shaft, but not all cars had the fitting and access hole. It was on later production builds and was added to earlier builds if a problem developed; this is covered in a service bulletin. The rear U-joint will eventually fail and will require taking the torque tube apart to replace it. Only the front one is lubricated by trans fluid. When I did mine I added an access hole to grease it; the original didn't even have a grease fitting.
  2. Holy smokes those pistons were torn up! Why I normally never buy a car with a freshly rebuilt engine. Also why I don't go to casinos very often.
  3. A Special would have to be top notch for $29k, but that interior covered in curtain fabric and marine vinyl will take $10k or more to correct.
  4. @cami, my comment on Sweden was referring to the fact that there are probably more 58 Limiteds on the road in Scandinavia than in the U.S. They are nutty about them, and even reproduce some parts that aren't reproduced by U.S. companies. Your best bet will probably be to retrofit bags that are new from another application if you want to retain the Air Poise.
  5. Take it to a better chrome shop. If it's done right it will probably outlast the original.
  6. Wow, cheap indeed. Color may have been a factor. I personally like the color, but not everyone does.
  7. I know the power ones are, so I imagine the standard ones are as well
  8. @cami if you have a 58 with all of the original components, that is extremely rare. Every one I've seen was converted when the car was not more than a few years old probably because the system was so unreliable. For this reason, if you need anything to convert I think you'll have to get it off a parts car. If you remove the original components, don't throw them out. There are a few cars maybe that have been made to have functional air suspension but not sure how much of the system is original. I am not aware of any kits but I know it's been talked about. If such a thing does exist you'll probably want to look to Sweden.
  9. I'm not sure exactly what you're seeking; if you want thoughtful, content-rich responses I'd recommend putting a bit more effort into your inquiry.
  10. Saw this car on Saturday, it looks really nice! I can inspect any cars here if you have serious interest as it's very close by. https://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/vehicle/chi/2172/1940-buick-limited
  11. Ted, where is Everyday Performance located? Is this someplace I can send my Quadrajet to? I assume you've used them more than once and would recommend?
  12. The old carb needed a rebuild, and I wanted to do a basic tune-up as I had no idea how old stuff was. The wires looked good, but when I do it I do it all. I bought a rebuilt carb off Ebay so I wouldn't have to take the car out of commission for too long and can rebuild original later. The plugs were fouled a bit and one was mismatched. Cap and rotor looked good but inspection door for was missing from cap. I also replaced valve cover gaskets and did a quickie repaint on the covers, slapped some new decals on the air cleaner, and replaced the foams. Did a couple other miscellaneous things like replace fuel line from pump to carb ( PO hacked it up and installed a filter and hose segments), radiator cap (changed coolant previously), and replaced a couple broken hose/loom straps. After starting it up; I noticed clearly a sound which previously seemed only faint, but standing right in front of the running engine it sounds like the water pump is noisy. This seems strange since it's not leaking or overheating, but certainly sounds like water pump, so that's coming up soon next time I get the time. I'll still need to make adjustments to the carb; I was already running late for dinner when I got everything back together. Looks a little brighter, but now the rest looks worse! Eventually I'll probably want to take the car to the next level cosmetically and can make it nicer at that time.
  13. Back on Ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/225590147891?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=i-k4gR0sQnW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=hzeLk7-dSMG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  14. You could not get cores replated for that price to a nice standard. Nice pieces
  15. @Jampard beautiful car, are those original colors?
  16. I also have a large collection of old GM keys that have opened a couple locks!
  17. I can help with left rear bumper end and some other non-wagon parts.
  18. On Ebay now... new owner flipping or....? Lots of pictures but no description really. https://www.ebay.com/itm/225568435346?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=i-k4gR0sQnW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=hzeLk7-dSMG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  19. I have also always used the putty around the trim. These cars don't hold up to corrosion the way new ones do, so it's an easy source of peace of mind, even if it's rare they'll see rain!
  20. Done! One of the most satisfying "Easy Buttons" ever.
