  1. I FULLY agree with those saying it is far easier to replace the column than to try and fix one. On pullers or special tools. I have been involved in this situation many times. If Dave has a column get it as they are Reatta only columns and getting hard to find. Riviera columns are slightly different as the cruise control wiring is different and hard to fish wires in these columns.
  2. Thank you everyone and especially Jon. I now know how to make my LEDs work and will accept Jon's harness. Jim
  3. Where did you get the "relay harness"?
  4. Even though I knew, but forgot, that for the headlight doors to work you have to have the headlight bulbs installed. I cannot find any reference to this in the shop manual but know if from past experience. I purchased some LED bulbs to replace the Halogen sealed beams and they work very good but now the doors on my '89 will not open or close. In addition the low beam portion of the LED bulbs is on very dimly even with the key off. Has anyone ever put in LED bulbs and made it work in a Reatta?
  5. There was only one style of hood emblems on Reattas. Sort of. All year emblems looked the same as pictured. The '89-91s were about 3 inches in diameter and the '88s were slightly smaller. When I say "sort of" The '88 and '90 Select 60s came from the factory with the standard emblem but the dealer was supposed to include with the car a special emblem as pictured below. I have lots of nice standard emblems available.

    Engine Choices

My first thought was also to check the harmonic balancer and you should do that first. I would go with a used engine from a salvage yard. I have sent many many Reattas to the crusher with good engines in them as these engines are normally so good there is almost no demand for them and they are cheap. You will need to stick with an '88-90 engine as that is a direct replacement and no electrical or mechanical changes need to be done. An '88 engine has the 3800 stamped on the intake plennum but other than that is the same. Also find a small shop to do the work. $ 1500 sounds too high to me.
  7. Years ago I made a test setup for testing '90 and up IPC. I wired in a BCM, central power supply and everything else the shop manual schematics called for. ( I also have an electronics background ) I must have missed something as I could never get it to work. It was really a waste of time anyway. These IPCs very often are intermittent and needed to be tested for at least a month in your regular car to make sure they are not going to go out even for a few minutes. I used to take exchanges and have about 25 non working '90 IPCs on the shelf so If anyone needs one to be sent in for repair while keeping their original I can provide one for $ 15. At this time I do not have any extra good working IPCs. Jim
  8. I do have tested good used pump/motors and pressure switches, however I will be out of the country starting Thursday through Oct 29. Jim
  9. I am not sure who y-jobfan is, but have responded to all emails that I have recently received. Jim
  10. I do have very good reproduction clips.
  11. Just last week I replaced the magnet in my wife's Reatta. I have done the JB weld method several times and worked good every time. ( read Padgetts link above this post ) Auto Zone sells new ones for about $ 12 and that is where I got my most recent one. Their part number is wells SU151
  12. In another post someone was looking for a '90 headlight switch so I thought I would bring this topic to the top so folks do not pay too much. I see on Ebay there are 3 of them ranging from $ 250-$ 595. I have them for $ 85 exchange. I also have the '91 Reatta and '90-93 Riviera switches available. On Ebay currently there is a Riviera switch for $ 41, That is a good price but it does not come with the knobs on the sliders and it is not for a '90 Reatta but fits a '91 Reatta or a '90-93 Riviera
  13. I see Phil has not responded to the inquiry about the headlight switch and am not trying to beat him out of a sale but I have reconditioned headlight switches for the 90 Reattas and the '91 Reattas and the '90-93 Rivieras. I sell them for $ 85 exchange.
  14. I have both a good used harmonic balancer and crank sensor at reasonable prices.

    Tonneau Cover

I do have the clips that hold the tonneau oover up. Jim
  16. Nothing going on, just two great guys giving each other a bad time.
  17. The '88-89 window switches do go bad. Dirty contacts inside the switch cause heat inside the switch and melt the pointed rockers. You can probably get your window back up by pressing real hard on the up switch.
  18. I have all letters available. Jim
  19. Barney does have them.
  20. There is one on Ebay right now for $ 129 with free shipping. The seller says is works and guarantees it for 30 days. There are also several places that rebuild them for just over $ 200 and they come with a guarantee.
  21. 1990 Reatta convertible in very good condition. Southern rust free car with new convertible top. I purchased this car from a friend in South Carolina and was my summer car last year. Over the winter I put on a new top and the car runs and drives very good with no problems. It has Cadillac 16 inch wheels with good tires but the original wheels are also available. Delivery help possible.
  22. If if is the black one under the rear bumper cover, I have a good one for $ 25 plus shipping. Jim
  23. I have a good dipstick but shipping is sort of expensive. Go to any local junk yard and get one from any GM car in that era that uses the 3800 engine. LOTS of them. Jim
  24. Ed Farnell has wheels similar to yours. I have these. Cut down Reatta centers on the convertible and Cadillac STS stock centers on the '89
