  1. 1946 have a different grill .it extends into the hood than the 47 or 48 .they have a die cast piece with the Buick crest in it . The crest is panted on a 47 ,plastic on a 48 . Later grills have a heavy chrome bar with vertical “teeth “Hood ornament on a 46 has no cross bars , these were added after vandals would remove the ring part of it ,adding the crossbars it became the “bombsight” type . Instruments were the same on 46 and 47, a copper and cream color also the steering wheel is cream color having spokes at 120 degrees.1948 changed to a black wheel with spokes at 180 and 90 degrees, instruments also change to a black and silver color but remain the same size . 1948 also has the model on front fenders, Super or Roadmaster.Front Engine mounts were also changed being mounted higher on block . Dynaflow were introduced on the Roadmaster this year. A Super or Roadmaster Sedanette is a impressive car with the fastback style looks like it moving when standing still also much drier that a convertible.
  2. Hello ,you may have to make a thicker gasket yourself, some of the after market parts leave something to be desired. Also check both parts for warping, and torque it down per shop manual . A I mentioned it a earlier post replace the nuts holding it together, The locking type nuts were only intended to be used once,Maybe you will luck out like I did and find loose nuts to be the problem. Good luck.
  3. Hello I have a 1949 Super with Dynaflow,it is a different driving experience. As mentioned in previous posts the best way to drive it it to let the engine accelerate moderately, allowing the torque converter to work together. The Dynaflows are much smoother the the early 4 speed Hydromatics that I had . Main complaint was leaking,I would imagine that owners that didn’t check the fluid level may consider them “junk” . Buick used a similar setup in the M18 “tank destroyer “ the Hellcat of WW 2.one of the fastest armored vehicles of that time. The main problem I had with mine was the nuts that held the torque converter on loosened up as they cracked from over torqueing not a fault of the transmission, these replaced with Nylon lock type.
  4. Hello will take the gear set. I tried to reply thru the email but it said delivery failed.
  5. Hello I have a 49 Super with Dynaflow, Mine was leaking at the torque converter, had been apart sometime in the past, replaced all of the bolts with nylon inserted lock type.Found a number of the original bolts were cracked along the slots on them , allowing them to back off.Dynaflow apparently leaked when fairly new,In the program service bulletins condensed book over half of it refer to The Dynaflow .Buick said that unless it was leaking more than a pint of fluid in a 1000 miles ,that was considered normal. It seems to work ok after that but still get a slight amount of leakage noticedable on garage floor.
  6. Could be for a magnet to collect metal in oil , my MG has a set up like that but for engine oil drain.Tap hole on side is for set screw to help hold magnet ,that would be my guess.
  7. Also on the Pennsylvania Turnpike they had souvenirs available, from bottle openers, pennants, postcards, salt shakers, etc.hard to today that it was a tourist destination in self. I must confess that I have a few.
  8. Hello thank you for your reply, I may be interested still waiting for mechanic to adjust gears in car. What is your price on the parts?Thank you.
  9. You can check to see if you have a current draw when car sits, disconnect the ground, and put ammeter between battery and ground should not pull any amps if everything is off . If it still has the original wiring also look there .The fabric insulation get brittle and mice find it a tasty snack.Hope this helps, good luck.
  10. Looks like one on my 49 ,holes on outer spokes would be for the “arrowhead trim” that finishes off the appearance of horn ring.
  11. Most newer paint products are a two step process, the color is layered under a clear coat . The clear gloss can be modified with flatting to modify it. I used it on the interior of my 49 to about 3/4 of gloss of exterior. The color match in in my case was excellent, although it was a complete repaint it ,original color of car could be seen under removed trim,in my case it was metallic gray , surprised that it was so close to original color as cars original paint.
  12. Hello thank you for your reply, I may be interested still waiting for mechanic to adjust gears in car. What is your price on the parts?Thank you.
  13. My 49 was changed to 12 volt as far as I know the float sender was not affected and gauge still works.

  15. Hello, Thank you for your reply,I live in north western Pa.your Century probably has the 4.11 ratio, this would help my 49 on lowering the rpm at highway speeds,Please let me know if this is doable.Gary
  16. Hello again,I went with the original Sunmist grey poly on mine Ithink the cream is somewhat overdone, the maroon color with a tan top and white walls would look impressive and be correct according to the data plate might be a selling point come the day you decide you don’t want it anymore .This is how mine turned out.
  17. Also if you could find some one with a Hollander Manual it would say for sure .I don’t think there is a online source for it. It lists what will interchange between make and models, A friend of mine had a. 1934 Buick with bad ring gear , found that by modifying a set of CHEVROLET gears it would fit ,had to machine.04 off inner ring gear if I remember correctly.
  18. Sorry one else has answered this question, looking at the parts books I think the basic transmission, gears sets and bands would be the same but torque converter and bell housings are larger than the Super model,so they may interchange.I hope this is some help.
  19. Had Apple rebuild all shock absorbers on my 49 Buick made a big difference in ride and handling.also replaced the links rubber is usually wore out or missing on them.Check Panhard bar , rear stabilizer, rubber insulated wore or even missing on them also.
  20. Hello,I have used a number of nos parts while restoration of this car front bumper overrides ,filler panel between number and grill, both sides of grill ,passenger side upper stainless trim, door stainless trim, quarter panel trim ,rear driver side stone guard, inner baffles for venti ports and some other parts I forgot about.Parts are still out there but takes time to find them, all body parts for a 1949 Buick are one year only but I did find a few of them.Gears will fit many models and years.
  21. Hello again ,if I can find a new set as was thinking something with higher ratio but as a said before acceration is low with Dynaflow even with the low 4.4 gears it can easily drive between 50 and 60 but mpg is only 10 to 15 .Speed limit in that area was 50 on most roads with the Pennsylvania Turnpike at 70. Wonder how many engine were ruined on that ,also tire blowouts!!
  22. Hello the Mechanic checked the Buick, drove it definitely thinks ring and pinion gear but will try to adjust backlash first If it should need gears said would only put in new unused ones. Let you know later if adjustments help.
  23. About 56 miles driving around Peninsula and cruise in over weekend,1949 56 C
