  1. Another option may be to buy power windows setup street rods use to power there windows. To go back to original setup probably be a lot of hard to find parts that were discarded when they changed it over . Maybe check out some street rod forums for information.
  2. Test to see if it works with a 12 volt to check if it works,Parts showed look like Bosch electric as they have part numbers on them should be able to get motors, and if 6 volt motor is available, but not likely
  3. Good luck, one 1949 Buick is more than enough, said my wife!!Gary

  7. Hello the contour on the stainless molding for a convertible is some what different than the die cast .as mentioned in other posts the rear fender mouldings are hard to find along with the rear fenders themselves.enclosed a picture of a 49 Super hope your can enlarge it enough to see.
  8. I have in a 49 that’s similar,if you have a shop manual it shows it quite well. The hydroelectric cylinder can be removed from window track and the spring and cylinder assembly unbolted from door frame. I removed the wing window assembly on mine first ,get something to catch the fluid that will run out when the hose is disconnected,Good idea to change the hoses too while apart, the wire attached to the cylinder controls the relay ,Please text me for on questions hope I can help.Gary
  9. The rear quarter windows on a convertible actually pivot from the leading edge of the frame a bolt goes through the frame to the body acting as a hinge.window frames do interchange bearings 1942 to 48 Buick Super and Roadmaster but won’t be easy to find. The rubber seal the touch’s the door frame is actually vertical when rear windows are down will try to take better pictures if I get to car later. I don’t know if you could have rear seats frame cut down, I could measure and photo mine if that helps.Gary
  10. Convertible have a chrome plated frame around side windows and are of a different shape than the sedanette. A rear seat frame can be made up for the convertible check some of the vendors in Hemmings,I know springs for a Model A Ford cost around 400$ for one set. Hope this helps ,Gary
  11. Thank you for the pictures, I thought that was missing on my top . I hate to trouble you more but could you measure the length and location of the fasteners, will have to try and make one up. Apparently this is the starting point when installing the top and didn’t come with kit.at least I have an idea of what it looks like.Thank you again.Gary. Ps I’ve had parts damaged in shipping also ,a nos door moulding turned into a pretzel!!
  12. Hello I to would like to know more of the development of the 49 Buick .Cadillac and Oldsmobile both used the same body but starting in 48 One would think they would have body development done by then. I think the 49 was the nicest styled post war car Buick made ,Gary
  13. Chrome costs alone are high on restoration of my 49 just got the top frame brackets done on mine ,was over 1,200 & but if you are going to restore a car l want to do it right. The chrome is probably the single most expense on restoration of many cars when getting into the late 1940 s and up to early 60 s era cars but really to represent them correctly it’s part of the restoration.Gary
  14. Hello Am not in Houston area but rather in Erie,Pa but do have a 1949 Buick Super convertible restored to factory colors of Sunmist gray red interior and tan top. This is an early car with the more rounded deck lid ,steel top well .The speedometer is stamped nov 48 so probably one of the 1st 49 model 56c built ,Gary
  15. Also drop the inspection cover at bottom of flywheel housing and check the bolts holding the torque converter to flywheel, mine loosened up and was slipping and lost about 3 quarts in 30 miles!! I replaced all nuts with the nylon lock type so far this stopped most of the leak,Dynaflow do leak, Buick wouldn’t repair them if the were leaking less than pint in 1000 miles, according to service repair bulletins. After sitting for some time this will also let the seals dry out, keep an eye on the fluid level and go from there.First born is right Dynaflows never shift, all the work is done in the torque converter they do have somewhat of a slipping clutch feel to them ,engine revs up without immediate gain in speed but they are smoother than the Hydromatics of the same era.Gary
  16. Thanks for the compliment on the 49 , that is the original color of the car when new Sunmist gray metallic with the red interior.Currenly redoing the top frame chrome and preping it for paint,a beige color to match top material.Top is tan with red accents on trim edge . Sorry to hear of your experience on the 48 ,I had a similar experience, agreeing on price, giving seller a deposit, but then someone offered more money then he backed out,did get the deposit back though. If you are still looking, try to find the most complete and original car you can afford, body parts are hard to find .some being only for a given model or year .Good luck on your quest.Gary
  17. Sorry to hear of the end of sale, in case it may resume I enclosed more pictures, this is a 49 but would be similar.
  18. Hello I had a 47 Super and now a 49 .The side window frames will fit from 1942 to 48 Super or Roadmaster or 1942 to 47 Cadillac or Oldsmobile 98 if they can be found quite often they are damaged from rust .Hydroectric system can be rebuild, parts are available from Bobs or Cars also Check Hemmings for top Specialists. Included some pictures of my 49 top to give you some idea of how they look. Good luck on your Buick.Gary
  19. Hello thank you for your reply, what I am looking for is how the back curtain is held to the top bow is there a piece that is tacked to rear bow that has the twist fasteners attached that then this holds the back curtain up ?Also the dimensions of the rear window frame On the rear curtain.I think the fastener retainer that tacks to top bow was not included in new top . I wrote to Lebaron Bonney to see if it is available, thinking that it would be length of back bow and maybe 3 inches tall with the twist fasteners on it .This would be hidden under the valance panel and not visible from outside of top, also dimensions of the fasteners on retaining strip may help also . Thanks again ,Gary
  20. iuHello does anyone have a original or correctly restored 1949 Buick convertible?Looking information on the rear curtain is held to top bow with the twist fasteners.I have enclosed a few pictures of the area am taking about. My Top was changed to the horseshoe type zipper, should have a zipper on ether side and top edge held to bow with twist fasteners. Thanks to anyone that can help me with this .Gary
  21. 1941 to 1948 distributor with the 3 ball plate for reference.
  22. Glad you found problem I had a wire in distributor that was broken on inside would contact until the vacuum advance moved it hope the wire is cause of your problem.Make sure the screws on points and condenser don’t interfere with plate rotation,1949 models don’t use the 3 balls to hold the plate,it rides on a oil filled felt plate ,you mentioned earlier about oil in distributor someone may have over oiled it.
  23. Make sure the distributor plate where the points and condenser mount rotates freely if you disconnect the vacuum advance .and also check the vacuum advance is also working .mine was jammed up from someone putting too long of screws in causing it to bind up changing the timing.
