  1. You can get it on ebay from the UK. Even here in Oz its a special order item from Auto parts suppliers. I use it and it works well.
  2. Mate, you are so lucky, it could have been a lot worse at 85k/h. Especially if it was up here in the sunny state, some crazy drivers up here. I feel your pain though. It looks like you wont be bored for the near future.
  3. Type the model number of your distributor into Pertronix site and see if there is one available that just bolts on. If not, you can modify a 4 cylinder 12volt positive ground Pertronix unit to work with your distributor. http://www.pertronix.com/support/ignitor-kit/default.aspx
  4. Maybe the original Herbie or the 1st off the production Beetle may fetch $1m but WoW! It doesn't even have a weber on it...?
  5. Yep, you're over thinking it cricket. Because you have jammed the timing chain with the generator sprocket, you have no choice but to pull the crank bolt and balancer off then take the timing cover off and check to see that you haven't damaged the chain. Its unlikely that it is damaged but there is only one way to find out.
  6. @brasscarguy How many electric cars has MB and Jaguar have built? Where will they get the batteries? If Tesla did not make electric cars, the others would be stalling for decades more.
  7. @Ronnie even it you charge an EV from the most dirties coal powered electricity, it is still more efficient and less polluting than a petrol power vehicle. Why? A petrol powered vehicle only converts 25-30% of the fuel to movement, where as an electric motor is about 90% but probably down to 50-60% with losses in transmission of the power to the charging point, losses in charging the batteries and in delivering the power from the batteries to the electric motor/s. But the future will bring more and more renewable energy production to the grid.
  8. Are the whitewalls too much for you....?
  9. Thanks @thehandleman I hope lady luck is on my side. Does your one have 'Chrysler' on the top of the bucket?
  10. Here you go; http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com/page4.html
  11. That is a wonderful looking automobile, obviously the restoration house has done a superb job. Could you take a sample for someone to identify it?
  12. Thanks Ben, I lost some hair trying to figure out the alignment, the brackets didn't help. Some testing is required to see how well I have the pulley aligned.
  13. And make sure you wear gloves when using POR, it sticks to your skin like sh*te. Takes a at least a week for it to wash off.
  14. Here are some pics from my conversion' A flat seat secured by two sump bolts and flush with the small base on the block. Stepped bush was made to fit into the 3/4" hole for a bolt. The base bracket for the universal adaptor that came with the alternator. Unfortunately with this universal bracket the slots were not aligned and would not bolt up straight, so we had to make adjustments to it. Top adjusting bracket from an old truck according to the bloke from the wrecking yard.
  15. I have been running an electric fuel pump with a regulator on a '28 Chrysler for some time now. No problems.
  16. That main fuse (60A) is way too big, try 30A or even 20A.
  17. And it only took you 65 pages and 1618 posts....? MUST BE AN AWESOME FEELING!!!
  18. The regular alternator(positive ground), pictured above wasn't cheap postage either from the States. I wanted to go for a generator look alike alternator, but being a longer unit than a regular alternator, I thought the oil filler tube may interfere.
  19. Any pics Steve of your conversion?
  20. Here is a couple that we did. Lots of fun.
  21. LOL!!!! I can't find a spanner I used yesterday...?
  22. Doh!!! That is weird, I simply copied and pasted it. I should have checked the link. Sorry.
