  1. @brasscarguy How many electric cars has MB and Jaguar have built? Where will they get the batteries? If Tesla did not make electric cars, the others would be stalling for decades more.
  2. @Ronnie even it you charge an EV from the most dirties coal powered electricity, it is still more efficient and less polluting than a petrol power vehicle. Why? A petrol powered vehicle only converts 25-30% of the fuel to movement, where as an electric motor is about 90% but probably down to 50-60% with losses in transmission of the power to the charging point, losses in charging the batteries and in delivering the power from the batteries to the electric motor/s. But the future will bring more and more renewable energy production to the grid.
  3. Are the whitewalls too much for you....?
  4. Thanks @thehandleman I hope lady luck is on my side. Does your one have 'Chrysler' on the top of the bucket?
  5. Here you go; http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com/page4.html
  6. That is a wonderful looking automobile, obviously the restoration house has done a superb job. Could you take a sample for someone to identify it?
  7. Thanks Ben, I lost some hair trying to figure out the alignment, the brackets didn't help. Some testing is required to see how well I have the pulley aligned.
  8. And make sure you wear gloves when using POR, it sticks to your skin like sh*te. Takes a at least a week for it to wash off.
  9. Here are some pics from my conversion' A flat seat secured by two sump bolts and flush with the small base on the block. Stepped bush was made to fit into the 3/4" hole for a bolt. The base bracket for the universal adaptor that came with the alternator. Unfortunately with this universal bracket the slots were not aligned and would not bolt up straight, so we had to make adjustments to it. Top adjusting bracket from an old truck according to the bloke from the wrecking yard.
  10. I have been running an electric fuel pump with a regulator on a '28 Chrysler for some time now. No problems.
  11. That main fuse (60A) is way too big, try 30A or even 20A.
  12. And it only took you 65 pages and 1618 posts....? MUST BE AN AWESOME FEELING!!!
  13. The regular alternator(positive ground), pictured above wasn't cheap postage either from the States. I wanted to go for a generator look alike alternator, but being a longer unit than a regular alternator, I thought the oil filler tube may interfere.
  14. Any pics Steve of your conversion?
  15. Here is a couple that we did. Lots of fun.
  16. LOL!!!! I can't find a spanner I used yesterday...?
  17. Doh!!! That is weird, I simply copied and pasted it. I should have checked the link. Sorry.
  18. Hugh, I got his details from www.ply33.com where there is a great write up how to do the conversion. James Peterson P.O. Box 884 Bend, Oregon 97709 email: jpetersonbend@yahoo.com
  19. Same, the alternator definitely does not look at home in the engine bay. However, when one does a lot of city and night driving it is a challenge to keep the battery charged and in good condition with a third brush generator. Plus, in my case, it will be a big effort to pull the generator out and have it re-built, I just don't have time in-between wedding gigs.
  20. I was planning to do this over the Christmas period when I do the engine swap but the generator decided otherwise. I would like to see how others have mounted an alternator to be driven off the fan belt to replace the generator. My '28 Chrysler has the generator integrated into the timing case and driven by the timing chain and hence its not a relatively simple swap like later models. So I need to mount the alternator on the other side to be driven by the fan belt, like in the 1929 onward Chrysler models. The only obvious place to mount a bracket is via the two water pump studs and maybe the sump bolt/s, or the water jacket bolts.
  21. Things you can try; 1. adjust the oil pressure relief valve, 2. pull the oil pan and clean out the oil pump pick up filter/screen 3 rebuild the oil pump, 4. do what I am doing, rebuilding another motor...lol
  22. Hugh, is it my imagination, or have you been very innovative re-creating the points? Well done with the insulating paper, should work a treat.
  23. If the manufacturers did take into account the gasket thickness, how much did they estimate it to be? 0.020", 0.030", 0.040" etc
