  3. Richard what is the length of the top bar , may have a usable one bob
  4. NEVER PUT A FUSE IN LINE FROM THE BATTERY TO GENERATOR , if this fuse blows the generator will make many hundreds of volts and do much more damage to the generator, and also the gauges ,lights and so on. The battery in this system is the voltage control and the third brush is the current control , generator protection is a fuse in the field wireing ,about 6 amp value , a fault in generator to battery will blow the field fuse an shut down the generator .
  5. there should be two threaded holes at the bottom of the peddle mount where the switch mounts and a small flat on the peddle to work the plunger of the switch.
  6. Richard, iwill have look tomorrow but from memory the switch mounts under the brake peddel on 128 cars . Bob
  7. The carburetor looks like a Detroit Lubricator with angle outlet to a four-bolt flange simular to that used by Hudson Essex cars, just a guess. No water pump, thermosyphon?
  8. 1928 To 29 Dodge Brothers 128, fast four and Standard Six And Victory Six and some Senior Six cars,. I have about 25 of them in all conduitions and have used them in Dodge Brothers cars for the past 40 years

  10. yeah Ray it seams that there is a new regulation for every thing that we do to day , even here in the lost world the boffin controilers seam to want rule our daily lives with more regulations that do nothing for the good of man other than make them important . This is a simple tube repair that been going on for the past 100 years plus and its in use on a car would never reach a speed that would ever any thing to worry about ,but the legal dudes would seam to tell us other wise from there ivory towers ( even though they are still in nappies and just out of school ) we must remember that they KNOW BETTER THEN US . Man what is this world doing ,does not anybody accept the own responsibilty any more . sorry the rant Ray but your not alone on this garbage , even we are getting this here .Bob
  11. mate you do come up with some good stuff , looks desoto or dodge except for the front bar across the dumb irons , needs more expert people than me now . some one will chime in that will know bob
  12. Ray realy this is a basic repair that has been with us for the past 100 years plus and its no like you are ever going to do free way speeds in this car . tell them thats its for a lawn tractor ha ha ha
  13. It is great to be able to share such information , we are always able to learn new things in this form and from some unusual places thanks for passing it on Ray .
  14. Yes gentleman it is a sad fact that there some shops that have not had the experence in repairing these radiators and this is of course due to there not being a supply and demand for this work in the daily grind of a modern repair shop where replacement being the norm today . I some 30 plus years ago when i started in this trade ,( when it was a trade skill to learn) had the advantage of being interested in vintage cars and restoring them so a radiator repair then for my car was the thing to learn on ( and I made a lot of mistakes in this time ,and it cost me too) but having a good teacher ( the owner of the bussiness ) allowed one to learn what to do in these jobs ( we must expect that there are some that can not be repaired and must be replaced ) . to repair these radiators .The first thing that must be done is to clean them both inside and out , the most practicable method is to " boil them out " , in short into a hot tank for about 4 hours ,turning and flushing to remove the years of crud that they have accumuiated. When clean one can then asses the state or repair necessary and have a clean base to be able to solder to ( to solder the surface must be clean and bright and tinned for a bond to be successful ) . Even at this stage your looking at least two days work before the main repairs can begin . And than the repairs will be to the ability and experience of the tradesman , and this is hard as so few today have been taught this level of work , so when looking for a repairer one must ask questions about the repairer experience , and you will find that those can do this work fully understand your concern and some will show pics of previous work or contacts of there past customers jobs for to contact and review there opinions . I do this with out reservations of any , for these past customers are your testament to your standard of work, if your repairer is not willing to do this WALK AWAY NOW. When you have your repairer have him forward pics of the work progress (its easy now with the internett ) as this keeps you in the loop and aware of the work required to compleate the job . Dont be afraid to ask questions of things you dont understand as these radiators can be irreplaceable and in the wrong hands great damage can be done .The cost of having the correct core made can be some what great some times but one must weigh this against the cost of repairing a badly damaged engine due to a poor radiator and in many cases the radiator cost will be small in comparison to an engine rebuild . Do your home work ,ask fellow club members , ask questions of repairers and than you can make the right decisions that suit you . Regards R.J. Brims
  15. We put Ray,you have explained it better than me.
  16. I will be in the workshop tomorrow and will pull out the two bellhousings and show the differances , they look the same and you have to look hard to see the differances Bob
  17. Danritz that is very common mistake people make with the 128/9 series cars . The number differance does not refer to the brake system but rather to the wheel dia and diff ratio that was a option . 128 = 19 " wheels and a 3.75 diff and 129 = 21 " wheels and a 4.23 diff . Both series were built in two wheel brake and four wheel brake , two wheel had the hand brake on transmission rear , four wheel brake had both 4 wheel hand brake and transmission brake on later cars . The same number options were used on the Standard Six and Victory cars ,eg= 140- 141 and 130 - 131 both refering to wheel options . Bob
