  1. I'm guessing that you like silver-colored cars. LOL. Mine was purchased new in August 1970 from Bill Heard Chevrolet in Columbus, GA by a guy who had just returned from Vietnam. He owned it until 2003 but I'm guessing that he didn't drive it much the last few years judging from the first pic that I posted....
  2. That's a nice looking Chevelle. I just bought a '70 (real) SS396 recently. It has less than 500 miles on a frame-off restoration. A guy in northern Indiana bought it 4 years ago and just finished it this summer. Here's a couple of pics-before and after....
  3. Sell it and let somebody else deal with fixing it because that job will be a gigantic PITA. As stated previously, you should have had an agreed value policy with Hagerty or another reputable classic car insurance company. NADA says average retail for your '57 Special convertible is $47k and high retail is $90k so yours is towards the upper end of that ballpark in my opinion. They give you a check and you go out and buy another classic and let somebody else put it back together or part it out. Whatever way you decide to go with it I wish you the best of luck....
  4. Goldenrod Garage in Freeport, Maine has dozens of old cars from the 20s to the 60s with about 15 being 1942 and older. I've spoken with the owner Neil on the phone a couple of times and he seems like a nice guy. All of the cars are for sale too. Enjoy your trip.... http://www.goldenrod-garage.com
  5. A few years ago I owned a real nice dark blue '69 Firebird convertible. This one was gold and listed at $19,950 on their website.... As far as consignments go, someone on another site said 5% of their vehicles were consignments and CCC owned the rest.... .
  6. In the summer of 1977 I bought a '70 Maverick in the Chicago area for $200. I was born and raised in Waukegan (40 miles north of Chicago) and had lived there for 25 years except for the two years I was in the Army. My Maverick was the same as this one except it was blue and had a 3 on the tree. The other difference was the rear wheel wells were rusted away a good 3" all the way around from seven rough Chicago winters. On August 12, 1977 (next week will be 40 years) I loaded everything I owned into it and headed west on I-80 to a place I had never been to (but heard a lot about) called California. I had $450 cash in my pocket and no credit cards when I left and didn't know a soul in the entire state but I knew I was sick of the winters there and it was time for a change. I made it out there successfully and got a decent job and ended up selling it after a few months because I got tired of people laughing at all the rust on it. End of story. LOL. Good luck with the sale....
  7. $90 seems a little pricy to me. Also, the 57 in the corner came off a different plate I think but that may be the way they all were in 1957. Hope this helps.... http://www.felix2.com/?ss=Oregon&yy=1957&tt= Here's one on Ebay for $40... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-Oregon-License-Plate-w-Tab-/352109992835?hash=item51fb641b83:g:YtsAAOSwjk9ZO0wK
  8. I have a brother who lives about half an hour from you in Groveland in Tuolomne County. Last night he said there's a lot of smoke and ash there and the fire is 35 miles away. Directly behind his house is a huge wooded area with trees within 10 feet of his house so he may have to evacuate unless they can get the fire under control soon....
  9. Don't you have anything more important to worry about than this?
  10. Army vet here. Thanks for your service. Check out this '62 Skylark convertible in your state of PA. It looks pretty clean to me. Good luck.... https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars/1962/buick/skylark/100875297
  11. Terrified? LOL. Leave it the way it is and tell them to stay home....
  12. I've seen a lot of car ads over the years but the description of this car is one of the longest and most comprehensive I've ever seen. I definitely have never seen one with over 500 YouTube videos of the car to go along with the ad. Have you? I didn't think so.... https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/ford/country-sedan/1960182.html
  13. Is that dent in the right front corner original from 1987 too?. Besides being clueless about the value of the car he knows nothing about how to sell it with no pics of the interior, engine, trunk, etc. Is there a demolition derby coming up in Birmingham this summer? If so I say enter it....
  14. I'm glad to hear that it worked out well for you. I'd like to hear more about your '64 Bonneville since I've got a '65. Got any pics? Thanks....
  15. If you need hard to find parts for old cars you better learn to be a big fan of it because that's the best and easiest place to find unusual old car parts. Several months ago I needed a turn signal switch for my '60 Edsel because the right brake light hadn't worked on the car in at least 10 years and none of the simple fixes worked. I found one on Ebay from a guy in TN who had purchased the entire parts inventory of an old MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) dealership and was listing the parts there. I've sold over 30,000 old car items (brochures, shop manuals, owner's manuals, old license plates) there to people in at least 35 countries since 1999 and there's no other place anywhere that I could have done that. Good luck....
  16. I finally found one on Ebay in Minnesota for $50 INCLUDING FedEx shipping which I thought was very reasonable....
  17. I was born and raised in Waukegan and lived there until I was 25 (except for the two years I was in the Army) when I moved to California in 1977 and then here to Kentucky in 1998. I've been following the misadventures of the governors from Otto to Rod and knew that four of the last eight served time in prison for corruption but what did the other three go to prison for?
  18. I thought this one would work but it says on the auction page that it's not compatible for a '65 Bonneville. Is that because of the backspacing? It's got the 5 on 5 bolt pattern with a 3" hole in the middle which is what I need. What is the correct backspacing supposed to be if this wheel isn't correct for my car? Thanks... http://www.ebay.com/itm/291946801419?ul_noapp=true
  19. That's a great name for it but I may be a bit prejudiced since my name is Dave too...
  20. All of those are for '80s and newer vehicles. Mine is a 1965....
  21. None of those are a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. A Chevy wheel with a 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern is too small. Do you understand now?
  22. I think it's just plain stupid. Do these geniuses also give names to their bicycles, riding lawnmowers and wheelbarrows? If not, why? You give a name to an animal like a dog or cat so they will come when you call them. Naming any kind of a vehicle is stupid unless you race it a quarter mile at a time....
