Nice Caddy! I still prefer them without the vinyl top; they just look a little more sleek! I see the price on these Eldo's are starting to climb or is the seller a little aggressive?

I think prices have gone up a bit.  This one is

priced at least within negotiating range.

I like Eldorados, Toronados, and Rivieras WITH

the vinyl tops.  The vinyl top seems to dress them up

a bit more.  It also provides an opportunity for a

contrasting or complimentary color.

That's why it's good that the manufacturers offered

many ways to design a car for each individual buyer!

With the rim of the steering wheel wrapped

in leather, I would ask what happened to the horn.

I believe they ALL came with "rim-blow" horns,

where the driver squeezed the inner part of the

steering wheel's rim to blow the horn.

The center pad of the steering wheel does not

sound the horn.  On my own '69 Eldorado, someone

had placed a horn button beneath the center pad

to bypass the inoperable rim-blow feature.

I don't mind a vinyl top on an Eldorado with its more formal roofline.  Toronados should never have a vinyl top IMHO, due to the way the C-pillar blends directly into the rear quarter.  Some Riviera color combinations look fine (e.g., silver/black), however, in general I think they look better sans vinyl.  ;)

I noticed the nicely done steering wheel cover too and immediately thought "rim-blow" 😖.

The rim-blow horn was a miserable piece of engineering. In its defense no one ever thought it would last and work for 60+ years. But a lot of them had quit in 15 years, my 69 Toronado being one of them. It had a 70s conventional wheel when I bought it which I replaced with a 1969 Oldsmobile sport steering wheel. Much more reliable.

As many Fords as had them I guess there are still people who restore rim-blow wheels.

I had the steering wheel restored in my 1969 Eldorado:

The woodgrain in the rim cracks and falls out.

But the steering wheel restorer said that, while

replacement parts are available for Ford Motor Co. cars,

none are available for GM vehicles.

If anyone knows of a source for GM, please let me know!

My "new" 1970 X-100 Marauder supposedly comes with a rim blow horn/steering wheel. It will be awhile before I find out.

Back to the car here - this is a poster child for why I am OK with the 1969 and 1970 non hidden headlight Eldorados.  The front end on this is still beautiful.  The only difference from 1968 being the non hidden headlights and refined non eggcrate grille.  But the grille is still pleasant.

I remember many having issues after only 5~6 years!  :o

You needed to know where the sweet spot had moved to.  Sometimes a problem when you really needed the horn fast.

Ha!  You're absolutely right - I forgot about that idiosyncrasy!
