Is the market so bad? 1953 Cadillac Coupe de Ville in the New York area.

Recommended Posts

Today ended an eBay auction for a 1953 Cadillac Coupe de Ville in the New York area. 2nd owner had it for 40 years. Good paint, good chrome, good interior, running. No reserve auction. It ended at 18.100 usd. Quite shocking to me. Are these wonderful cars so out of fashion?

  • Peter Gariepy changed the title to Is the market so bad? 1953 Cadillac Coupe de Ville in the New York area.

Not the best color combo, but seems like a good buy on the cheap side,  but with ebay it's all about timing. Even what day of the week and time of the day it is ending.   I sold my 60 vette on ebay for more the 3rd time it went through after it burnt than the first two times you could drive it home.   With cars I especially try to do a 10 day auction that has 2 weekends and ends on a Monday evening.    Did the car have air as well?  Looks like scoops for AC.

Here in Europe this is a 30.000 Eur car. I would not wonder, if it comes over to here. 54 to 59 caddies are so common cars due to their many followers that the earlier generation of cars is a pleasant variety. I would not have a 1950 Cadillac Coupe this would have been mine now.

Are you sure the car is sold , many times the owner bids it up himself and espicially when at a no reserve auction .30.000 euro car ?? I wish you luck because i know not many people run around with 30K in their pocket .If it was a Mercedes OK thats another thing

Daniel, of course I am not. But look at La Salle Classic cars in the Netherlands, they offer a 1950 Cadillac Coupe now for 49.500 Eur, and last year they had another 1950 for sale in the 35.000 range that they actually have sold. Auto Folies sold a nice 53 CdV recently. And these cars are really desirable.

There are still a few people left with money in Europe as well. 😁

By the way, I love the color combination on this car.

Looks dusty plus the tires could have been cleaned up!  A few hours of washing/waxing/polishing may have added up to a few more thousand...

The price looks about what Hagerty lists for a condition 4 vehicle $19,000, even tho it looks more like a #3 ($30,000). Still, it got a bunch more than a very similar car did in September ($10,500) - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1953-cadillac-series-62-sedan/

The Hagerty price guide (free) is usually in the ball park, so either these are deals, or indicate the market for 50's iron is falling away. That, and people are spending less as prices for gas and such are rising.
