THANKS ! , yes we drove with the buick on Sunday afternoon and the people we met on the road were happy, they said hello to us and they were happy . Sunday June 11 (this weekend) we are going to a big American car show in Lavaur (city near Toulouse, in the south of France). And we go there with my parents' 1941 Buick and with my 1978 Dodge Monaco . We have a little over 1 hour drive to Lavaur, I hope everything is fine this past on the road, because the Buick was in a museum and has not been driving for a long time
sebastienbuick
Hello everyone . At the same time as the chromes, we take care of the steering wheel which was tired as we can see So dismantling We took the steering wheel to a person who works with resin. And once it all flakes off The 1941 resin is tired, so making molds to redo everything Setting up, pouring the new resin Now manufacture of other molds for all connected Wet sanding and priming The steering wheel is ready to be taken to the bodybuilder. Painting The steering wheel is finished
sebastienbuick
To finish the steering wheel, we also had to take care of the strapping of the horn in the steering wheel, because a chrome branch was broken And we found on Ebay a strapping in NOS part for Buick 1941 ! But before reassembling the steering wheel we had to take care of the horn which never worked, to start we will use the diagram Then we spend a lot of time looking, there are two sheaths with cables coming out of the steering column under the dashboard, I tested it all several times in continuity to find which one makes the horn work, but nothing to do I can't find. I wonder if the wire is not cut in the column, so I take a telescopic camera of 1 meter (European dimension) and I introduce it in the column. Then I can clearly see the two sheaths that come out that I have already tested, but I also see a third sheath that goes down the length of the steering column and comes out in the engine compartment just before the steering box. And there I see a sheet that hides a relay and there is a wire that was voluntarily disconnected, I plug it in and it honks immediately without touching the horn in the center of the steering wheel (that's why it had been unplug ) . So I fix that, in fact I think I reproduced what was original but missed the part. Then reassemble the steering wheel, and the horn works very well

sebastienbuick
Hello everyone, here is some news from the Buick . So after putting all that together, we did an engine oil change . New filter Installation and filling of 5.3 L of oil Oil change done, it has new oil now She is ready to roll We will therefore take a 40-minute ride to test the car and see if everything is fine, because for the moment we have only made short trips. sebastienbuick
Then this weekend there was an American car show "Rock and Cars" in Lavaur (city next to Toulouse), there is 1h15 drive and there with the Buick 41 and my Dodge 78, hoping that everything Goes well on the road because the Buick has never been driven for so long, we must not forget that this is a car that comes out of a museum and it has not been driven for a long time. So on Saturday we cleaned and re-checked the cars, then we pumped up the spare tire of the Buick. Then the Dodge once cleaned, we put some tools in the trunk So here we are on Sunday morning, we will leave at 8am towards Lavaur. Will it go well on the road? this is the question that stresses us because we have never driven so much with the Buick. We will drive quietly, on average at 70 km/h so as not to damage the Buick. And the minutes passed, without any problem, the stress disappeared, and after 1h30 of road we got there ! Here we are parked, and super happy to have arrived there without problem It was a great day, full of American vehicles, full of people , ... Then in the afternoon my parents receive a phone call to tell them that they have been selected to win a trophy ! So we'll take the car in front of the podium for the award ceremony (trophy) Then here we are at the awards ceremony, me from the back with the white t-shirt (Bob's big boy t-shirt buy in Los Angeles in burbank ! ) and my parents in front We won a crate with a trophy, bottle of wine, stickers and an American car book Then at the end of the day we will leave to go home the Buick will have been driving for 3 hours, and she's done very well ! We are happy, we went home without any worries and in addition for her first exhibition she won a prize (trophy) ! Then we had a great day at this exhibition, there were a lot of cars (there were 800 cars throughout the weekend), I'll do a subject on this exhibition if you want

Also good to see the Dodge is back on the road. The transmission repair was successful! What kind of oil did you use in the Buick? Thank you very much EmTee ! , for the oil of the Buick we put 20W50 . Yes the Dodge gearbox has been reassembled ! For the story of the Dodge gearbox, the gearbox broke in January and we had to find another "904" gearbox and rebuild it. But here in France it's hard to find that, and it took me a while to find a 904 in France. And I found a 904 gearbox but it had been disassembled for a long time, and before it was on a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda formula S. The problem is that we don't know if a 904 gearbox is the same in 1967 and 1978, but since we couldn't find anything else we took the risk and bought this gear box . Then this new gearbox was restored to then put it in my Dodge. This all took time, and my godfather is at an R5 Alpine club, and the club meeting was May 28th and 29th, and he asked me if I could be there with my Dodge. It was therefore necessary that the gearbox be reassembled before May 28th. And I received the gearbox on May 26, and it was like Friday, May 27, I did not work, I only had one day (Friday) to reassemble the gearbox, drive shaft, accessory, linkage box, put the oil, ... here is the new gearbox and my original gearbox, with the restored converter, and the Plymouth converter Then we put the oil in the converter Then put in place, me on the left with the white pants, and on the right a friend (we are restoring his 1969 cadillac) Edited June 16, 2023 by sebastienbuick (see edit history)
sebastienbuick
We are still on the reassembly of the box and the night begins to arrive everything is back up, and we put the dodge back on its 4 wheels Then we will put the gearbox oil And we'll do the first test drive, it's 12:30 a.m. / 1:00 a.m We will have finished the reassembly on Friday 27 in the evening and on Saturday 28 at 1:00 am in the morning. And the Dodge is present for Saturday 28 at 8:00 am for my goodfather's club ! I came across a rare and very beautiful GMC on the road So here it is For the Dodge , the gearbox is reassembled !

Thank you for the information, we looked and they are the same. The difference between a 904 from 1967 and 1978 is that on the 1967 there is no fixing of the gearbox linkage support. I had to make a support as originally.

I think the right model is the first one at $175 on the website. https://bobsautomobilia.com/product-category/clutch-items/page/2/ What do you think ? , is it necessary to buy something else in addition to make the clutch ? But the original one won't go in the trash, I like the original parts even if they are worn, so the old clutch will be kept in a box
