deac
That's a lot of duckets for a 4 door post car. However it is a heluva nice original car but for 29G's?
John_S_in_Penna
My maxim is sometimes, DEALER PRICE /2 = REALISTIC PRICE In this case, the formula becomes UNNKNOWLEDGEABLE SELLER'S PRICE /3 = REALISTIC PRICE! Yes, I feel that this car is worth less than $10,000.
EmTee
Yet another nice 4-door sedan. Even a coupe would be hard to make that ask... Edited July 21, 2022 by EmTee (see edit history)
63RedBrier
Great color combination (to me)! Super low mileage, if correct and can be documented. Does the odometer work?
auburnseeker
You know if you are going to ask top dollar you could atleast buy a can of mothers and clean the rear bumper. Probably just picked it up for 8500 or so and thinks he has the score of a lifetime. I have a 56 Olds 88 2 door hardtop. 20 G puts you into pretty nice 2 door hardtop money. 30-40 and you are in convertible territory.
The 55er
If the extremely low mileage can be documented this would be a great survivor car. IMO it looks to be completely original right down to the hose clamps & GM license plate frame. Some collectors love these virgin untouched cars that are only original once. The interior including the seats, carpet, dashpad & windlace looks like it just came out of the factory in 1956. A personal inspection would be in order to verify mileage & authenticity but this looks like a winner to me. And it's a Super 88. I don't know if it's worth $29.5K but I think $15-$18 would be realistic for a nice original like this. They don't come along every day. I'd be proud to own it.

Rivguy
It is a nice car, and it's an Olds 88 V8, but where's the pizazz? A four door sedan just wouldn't cut it at anything hear this price. I'd put that money in saving the Imperial convertible.

auburnseeker
Yup and probably still 10G too high. It might be all original but the rear bumper especially if very worn and it's still a 4 door sedan. 56 Olds's are nice cars, but the market just isn't there for them. Remember you are competing with stuff like the yellow 56 Caddy 2 door hardtop with near spectacular chrome that I posted last night, for $20,500 OBO. Most guys would grab that Caddy. I know I would. The 55er
All this time has passed and nobody's pointed out to Larry that the numbers on Oldsmobiles of this vintage aren't supposed to match. Maybe he hasn't gotten any calls at all.........the only sound has been those western PA crickets since mid-July.

Maybe he hasn't gotten any calls at all... Thank you for the insight. The seller says the "numbers match," but he may not even have looked at the numbers. Someone should ask him, "Which numbers?" Surely his optimistic asking price has kept the car from selling.

avgwarhawk
Very nice example. I'm a four door guy. Just one of many. The price is what's holding back a sale. 15k max. The 55er
This is a very nice Super 88 and someone should inform Larry that Oldsmobiles of this vintage did not have matching numbers.
kingrudy
They built a ton of these and there are still a lot of them around. I paid $50 for my '55 Olds while still in high school (same model). The car was in great shape. I think that 10K is a fair price for this car. Might be able to squeeze 12K out of this, but that's the full boat. I might just buy a '55, or '56 if I sell my Super.
The 55er
I don't know about $24,500 but if that pristine low mileage 56 Olds sedan somehow showed up with that hypothetical $10-$12K price at the Fall Hershey AACA Car Corral with its 324 V8, Hydramatic and power steering & brakes it would be gone in about 5 minutes, especially if it was near my swap meet space and I saw it first. I would have no problem using that car as my daily driver for the next ten years or so.
deac
Very cool car. If the seller drops the price to 15 grand I hope someone who appreciates it, buy's it and keeps in its original state! As they say "it's only original once".

I think now it's priced much better--half of what the seller originally thought. Maybe it will find a home among one of our forum-goers. This 4-door car has nice styling to go along with its very good condition. Edited March 28, 2023 by John_S_in_Penna (see edit history) 1
