sagefinds
Okay,it's not tiny, must be some old truck. Maybe between two driving rear axles. I couldn't see any name or numbers on it anywhere. It's in good shape, whatever the application is. Female splines on one end, just square on the other. Larry Schramm
With the square shaft on one end, could be from an early, pre 1920 vehicle.

Dandy Dave
Not the spline use for a farm tractor PTO. Tractor PTO's are 6 splines and 1-1/8 or 1-3/8 depending on the year and application. Also, the square end would be longer. auburnseeker
Could it be a PTO shaft for something like a PTO front mounted winch? Did the front pumps on old fire trucks run off a PTO?
paulrhd29nz
I see no grease fittings. Could it be a steering knuckle?
sagefinds
When I was a kid some summers I would work for my uncle who farmed and ranched North of Rapid City. We pulled all kinds of equipment that was driven from the PTO out the back of the tractor, mower, baler, windrower, etc, this thing doesn't match anything we used. But I think auburnseeker might have something. There are traces of red paint on it so it could have been the driving shaft from the front of the crankshaft to a front-mounted pump on a firetruck. Looks like there is wear from a bearing block to keep it straight and it wouldn't need to be pinned. Any and all other observations and opinions still encouraged. studeboy
Some ground driven (usually horse drawn) farm equipment used universal joints some what like that. I remember an old corn binder that had such a universal joint. Didn't operate at as high speeds as most drive shafts.
