The thinking was it would help increase enrollment if children could be picked up and taken to school. The lenses are dark and most likely the color blue. One does not normally see old photos of people wearing sunglasses but indeed they did wear them. Blue was probably the most popular or most often purchased color lens, but there also were other colors such as shades of brown.
