"21st & Harrison,1920 - Ford assembly plant, southwest corner of 21st and Harrison, built by the national company in 1912 and designed by Seattle architect John Graham. The Federal truck belonged to William L Hughson, who sold Ford automobiles in San Francisco from the first year of Ford's existence, in 1903, until Hughson's death in 1967. (WMK) The building became the San Francisco Trade School around 1948 and later known as John O'Connell High School. Damaged by the earthquake in 1989, the building was demolished in the early 1990s."

Dave, don't ever apologize for adding period photos here- WOW man, I love them all. The cars are great BUT I also really love 19th and 20th century buildings "of the era" and this is just a feast to see while looking past the vehicles. I have been a vocal advocate for preservation and moderate but appropriate building modifications/modernization here in the village i live in for over 3 decades and my family has resided in for a century. I have mentioned here before that I wrote the local laws for the Architectural Review Board that I also started and taught architecture to younger children. This whole tread is getting better and better because of all the grand contributions of all of you viewing this, thank you again.

Walt

A 1926 Locomobile Junior Eight brougham...wonder why I recall the looks of those obscure cars?

I tried to get the scratches to disappear from the Marmon Roosevelt and swimmer, but this software isn't that capable.

Union & Stockton 1924

Note the two signs Modern Painting Co and Carpenter and Builder in background.

I post things like this in hopes of identifying the man, the type of vehicle and hoping to help others connect the family business at the time.

"Turk near Parker,1925 - Automobile Soccer game in progress on St. Ignatius College athletic field, Parker Ave & Turk Street."

This picture has to date from 1929, which was when the latest location of St. Ignatius HS "The Brickpile" opened.  I wuz dere 1956-60 and the field was much the same except that the fence was chain link, there was a paved basketball court area on the left side of this scene, and the rest was sodded.  On the other side of the fence, down a steep embankment, is Turk St.  Photo is looking north.  About 1979 a new campus was constructed at 37th & Rivera.  Much of "The Brickpile" was demolished and the rest turned into a gym for USF whose grounds are across Parker St out of view on the far right side of the photo.  I was on the 3rd (top) floor of The Brickpile during the March (?) 1958 earthquake--an exciting experience but no one was injured and no structural damage.
