Steve Moskowitz Posted August 2, 2019 Share Posted August 2, 2019 Got this lead today: Secondly through my Father’s passing and time I have acquired an old Oldsmobile car and parts. I have the front half of what I am told to be a 1923. It has a complete frame, fenders, cowl, fuel tank, 6 cylinder engine with the bell housing and transmission. The steering column an wheel are also there along with the front wheels and tires. The back of the bar was removed to make a tree hauler. It has an additional 4 speed transmission bolted behind the original transmission. It has a windshield frame but I am not sure it is correct. Someone removed the truck solid rubber tire rear end. I have the rear leaf springs but could only find a 1928 rear axle. As an Oldsmobile collector and expert do you know of anyone who would want the car and parts. They can come and give me what they want. I hate to scrap such a piece of history. The car and parts are located in Erie, PA 16506. I also have a 1928 rear end and just found a small box of smaller sheet support pieces with some would frame pieces attached. I also have a miscellaneous windshield frame. Remember this includes the 28 rear end with wood wheels and a smaller box of metal braces and wood framing! I am in the process of getting my 92 year of mother's house ready to sell. There is also an Oldsmobile forum even lower down for Oldsmobile owners. It could be posted in both forums and get more exposure. I'm sure someone would love to get hold of this. If you can give it some time I'm sure you'll find a buyer. It looks like you've got plenty of work to do without touching the car. If your are interested text me or email me through this site. $800 obo for the 1923 frame, engine, hood, transmission, bell housing, clutch, radiator, front axle , springs wheels and tires, steering wheel, Column and box, cowl, brake master cylinder, brake and clutch pedels, a 4 speed transmission mounted directly behind the 3 speed transmission, rear leaf springs, has has tank, front fenders. Found 2 wood wheels for the car in fair condition, have a 1928 rear end for it , and while getting it ready for shipping I actually found 3 boxes of miscellaneous small parts for the car. papony Posted August 16, 2019 Share Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) No I do not. I purchased it from a logger who used it to pull logs back in the 40's and 50's. He had the original 3 speed trans. and added a 4 speed trans.behind it. They were connected to a solid rubber dual wheel rear end. He had pulled the Oldsmobile out of a salvage yard in Corry PA. The two tranmissions are still there. The rear end is gone but I have a 1928 rear end going with it. You say you have found a second? set of wheels. Do they match the ones on the front? I'm not sure this is 23. The front wheels are metal felloe and metal felloe wheels came out a little later. Also, the four speed trans could be worth your asking price for the car. Therefore, pictures of the trans and extra wheels would be helpful. Does the new found wheels fit the 28 rear end? The car could actually be a 28, in which case you have a complete chassis. Also, the motor, does it turn over? Or is it stuck? Did you post this to the speedster forum? papony Posted August 18, 2019 Share Posted August 18, 2019 As I have said before I am cleaning out my 92 year old mother's house. The second set of wheels do not match the front wheels. My family purchased the 28 rear end and it is complete with brakes and wood wheels but no tires. I do not know if the additional wheels fit the 28 rear. The engine turns over and is a 23 as is the three speed transmission. Something now needs done with the house and contents.. A local Oldsmobile collector has made an offer on the engine. Some how he wants to cut the "Oldsmoblie" script out of the engine block. A few years back when they offered incentives to scrap older cars you would have been appalled by what went across the scales and to the crusher. I did have a $650 offer but told the gentleman he could pay when he arrived from Illinois. He called me four times in two days and made sure each time I knew he was taking it. My mistake. He told me the gentleman that wants to to pay scrap price won't scrap it. He will purchase it a take it to Carlisle or Hershey to sell! Pretty smart kid. If I could take off work I would try doing that. What he wants is a 4 wheel ATV or two seat go cart. How about a trade of equal value. The ATV must have a title. I have worked in two open die for forge shops for over 22 years. I now am a purchaser of steel for a machine shop. I know what scrap prices are. Winter will be here soon and everything must be cleaned up at my mother's. It is already time to get the plow trucks ready and wood split last year ready to burn. Our son has a 1982 Mustang, 1968 Mustang, 1984 BMW, 1953 Chevy truck, an a 1967 MGB. Our daughter has 1988 Mustang. Also my father was service manager for Packard Erie Motor Car Co., before and after WWII. It is not tenacity, just trying to keep the hobby going. You can find Model T parts every where, but find old Oldsmobile parts. Like I said earlier snow is coming. In fact 2 years this December 26th our 2nd Grandson was born. Between Christmas Day and late on the 26th Erie, Pa had 53 inches of snow. My Chevy one ton plow never failed me. One dumpster is gone, ordering the second.
