ken1007
I had to open up a wire harness on a replacement harness for a 1935 car. Does anyone sell antique harness wrap? Do not want to use plastic wrap found on modern cars. Ken, Deltaville,Va Thanks to all, found everything at Rhode Island Wiring. 28 Chrysler
Some of it was like friction tape that was not quite as sticky.
Friartuck
You might look into a type of tape called Gaffers Tape. Its black and cloth based and used in the film industry to tape down cables and wires during a photo shoot.
skyler
I used some of that old fashioned "not as sticky" tape today to wrap some wires. I got a roll at a flea market but I cannot remember offhand the name of the tape. I will try to remember to look at ot tomorrow and post it. capt den

Joe in Canada
Hockey stick tape is your answer. A black cloth tape that was used for that purpose years ago before plastic and then found a new use in sports.
keiser31
Some of the places that sell wiring harnesses sell the materials to make them. Try Rhode Island Wiring.
JACK M
Some of the places that sell wiring harnesses sell the materials to make them. Try Rhode Island Wiring. Included in a recent "Painless wiring" purchase was a roll of self vulcanizing tape.I put some on my project yesterday. I am looking forward to what it looks like today. It looks lust like any black plastic tape but has a clear plastic on one side that you remove. It says to stretch it while applying. I did all that, the loom is a stiff fabric as opposed to plastic convoluted tubing.

Stude Light
3M makes a really nice friction tape, available at Home Depot and I'm sure other stores. It sticks well but isn't sticky on the outside and simulates the original stuff that came off my '23 wire harnesses nicely.http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-3-4-in-x-20-ft-Friction-Tape-Black-3407NA-BA-6/202192876 Scott
JACK M
The best pair of buckets I have are not much.Probably a good thing no one will be seeing them. But here's the self vulcanizing tape, works pretty well.
auburnseeker
Any bigger hardware store should have friction tape and it's only a couple of bucks a roll. I have used it numerous times with great success and it looks very OEM when done.
vintchry
Check with NAPA, they offer the old fashioned asphalt loom in various sizes. Do NOT use electrical tape, the self stick tape as used on later OEM is fine, but I have found itt o be very pricey for the amount you get in the package. skyler
the old stuff I have is called bulldog tape no. 2. the stuff that self seals uses a chemical reaction between the layers to kind of melt together. I have never had good luck with it. you got a lot of other good suggestions. I like the hockey stick tape. dennis
