  2. You can ring my BEEEEEELLLLLLL .... Ring my Bell ...... You can ring my BEEEEEEELLLLLL .... Ring my Bell .... Ring Your Bell Here Jim

  4. If you really want to change the direction of the Henry Ford: Posted on February 10th ..... They are looking for: General Manager-Program Design and Production (full time) Visit @ https://www.thehenryford.org/about/employment/job-postings/?category=Venues+Admi nistration Jim
  5. Of interest: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/708324/726163.html?1487248606 " A friend of mine who has been a participant at the OCF for many years met recently with John Neilson. Those following the changes announced for this year's OCF will recognize Mr. Neilson as the author of the letter announcing the changes at the OCF that was sent last month to past participants. By way of background, according to this website: http://www.motorcities.org/About+Us/John+Neilson-315.html "John is Vice President for Venues of Museums and Attractions at The Henry Ford in Dearborn. In his current role John is responsible for the leadership and coordination of a strategic direction for Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, including the quality, improvement and delivery of guest experiences, staff excellence, alignment, and the financial performance of the venues." When my friend met with Mr. Neilson the objective was to both express my friend's concerns regarding the changes at the OCF and gain an understanding of the thought process that lead to the changes. Unfortunately, my friend did not leave the meeting feeling good about the direction that the OCF is headed. Rather my friend left the meeting with the following impressions and perceptions: (1) the OCF festival had considered rolling out the changes over a period time but decided to make them all at once; beyond that it was not clear how much thought had gone into the changes or their implementation, (2) the changes are driven by profit motives and the new look of the Henry Ford, (3) they do not want to be known as a car museum, (4) they are not particularly concerned as to whether the car shows continue as they are a hassle for them, they consume a lot of manpower, and they are not profitable from a financial perspective, (5) the OCF and MM get in the way of weddings and other activities at the Henry Ford that generate net profits, (6) when the $25 registration fee was implemented some time ago participation dropped off the first year and then came back stronger than ever; they believe that this pattern will repeat even with the implementation of the nonrefundable $50 per car application fee, (7) the $50 fee will weed out participants and make the show more manageable, and maybe increase the overall quality of the cars participating in the OCF, (8) they are interested in how to make the show relevant to the general public, especially the younger generation that is focused on electronics; it was not clear as to whether or not they have a plan as to how to accomplish that objective, (9) the OCF’s hope is that participants will act as docents and stay at their cars dressed in period clothing and explain their cars to the general public. Before closing I wish to be VERY CLEAR with respect to a few details: I was NOT present at the meeting, and while I believe the information set forth above to be truthful and accurate, it is heresay, and must be taken as such. From my perspective, the fact is things change with the passage of time....and the changes being implemented at the OCF are just another example of that fact. Based upon what I have learned from my friend regarding his meeting with Mr. Neilson regarding this matter, I suspect that notwithstanding the concerns being expressed by fellow car collectors and OCF enthusiasts, be it in letters, email messages, phone calls and / or meetings, this year's OCF will unfold in accordance with the new policies set forth in the letter Mr. Neilson sent out last month. Take all this for what it's worth. And if you are wondering why my friend did not post this message himself, although he is a Model T Ford enthusiast, he does not frequent this site. He is, however, aware that I am posting this information and reviewed it before I posted it. " Jim
  6. This is a Heads Up for those who might be considering attending the JULY 16-21, 2017 – Whitefish, Montana. "Motoring in Montana" tour, a combined MTFCA and MTFCI national tour hosted by the Rocky Mountain Model T Chapter. This comes from George House in Caldwell County, TX " My wife and I have reserved a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath house for the Saturday night before the tour to the Friday night banquet. See: http://www.ski.com/whitefish-mountain-lodging/ides-cottage/2468 It rents for $303 @ night and comfortably sleeps 8 but could accommodate 10. Are we a big Model T family or not? $303 a night absorbed by 8 of us Model T tourers is only $38 a night per person for a fully furnished house ! Anyone going on that tour aware of the high price of Whitefish accommodations? We're bringing a '26 roadster and a too-cute Shih Tzu dog. Contact me if you're ready to commit.... " George House gwhouse731@gmail.com (512) 376-4180
  7. Your tow vehicle of choice will determine the loaded weight of the trailer you will be able to pull. Depending on the exact model - curb weight should be 3300 to 3900 pounds minimum. Overall length depends on the actual vehicle. That is where you start ...... Jim
  8. Nothing wrong with commercial car trailer ramps ..... American Made Aluminum Trailer Ramps Barn doors offer flexibility & full acces to the rear of your trailer - important if you load and unload on occasion with a forklift or other power equipment. Ramp doors wear out quickly with daily use - loading & unloading is usually done on surfaces that are crowned or not perfectly level - this can warp a ramp door - most ramp doors are rated at 4000 pounds - that won't stand up to a heavy vehicle - these are some of the reasons why I switched to barn doors and commercial ramps. That little video is another reason you should load & unload a vehicle by wireless remote control electric winch. Ever since I started hauling years ago - every vehicle gets put on and put off my trailer by remote control wireless control electric winch whether it runs or not. No need for a drivers' escape door - no opening or closing doors needed. Jim
  9. If you want to be educated - read a book. If you want to be entertained - watch television. It has been that way since television and books came into existence. Jim
  10. " My wife said way too nice as it's only a garage not an art gallery. " .... Sorry but I agree with your wife on that ..... You have a good woman there - listen to what she is telling you .... My first marriage .... And my second marriage .... To the same woman ...... Were the two biggest mistakes of my life. Yeah - I make really bad choices in certain areas of my life ..... Jim
  11. Talk about literally dodging a bullet .... This has been a particularly bad winter for most of the country, it seems there is nowhere really safe from extreme weather. Glad you are ok and suffered no losses. Jim
  12. I guess I am stupid .... The OP wants an insurance company to assume the risk for storage outside of a locked garage for their vehicle. That is a scenario anticipating a loss and a claim. What is wrong with this picture ? Jim
  13. " The Henry Ford " whould not exist without the Model T. It is the Foundation of Ford. As I stated over on the MTFCA forum ..... Do you own a Model T because you consider yourself an Elitist ? Henry Ford said: " I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one. " The common trait that all modern Model T owners share is the desire to simplify life. Henry struggled with that his entire life. That was the catalyst for " The Henry Ford " (also known as the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, and more formally as the Edison Institute). " Named for its founder, the automobile industrialist Henry Ford, and based on his efforts to preserve items of historical interest and portray the Industrial Revolution, the property houses homes, machinery, exhibits, and Americana of historically significant items as well as common memorabilia, both of which help to capture the history of life in early America. Henry Ford said of his museum: " I am collecting the history of our people as written into things their hands made and used.... When we are through, we shall have reproduced American life as lived, and that, I think, is the best way of preserving at least a part of our history and tradition...[6] " So - we have " evolved " to the point that potential participants who own their own vehicles have to PAY a non-refundable application fee for " consideration " of inclusion into a Meet & Greet with the Public ? That fee combined with the cost to travel to & from the Event and obtain lodging is proving to be a financial hardship for many past participants. I think folks at the Henry Ford have forgotten their mission statement. I think they need to be reminded by Modern Model T Owners. There are PLENTY of old cars in the Henry Ford Museum. Perhaps the organizers should take those vehicles out once a year for the Public to experience and ride in. Here is my point: The Model T was never intended to be a show car. It was a common car for the common man. Don't let any organization - museum - club take that badge of distinction away from the Model T Legacy. Honor Henry Ford's True Legacy - Simplicity Jim
  14. You folks need to read the second thread on the MTFCA forum: Old Car Festival Discussion Part Two Jim
  15. Boy is that a good question to ask Mr. Wayne ..... http://forums.aaca.org/topic/280321-the-stuz-bearcat-barn-find-that-got-away/#comment-1505572 Jim
  16. For those who have never been to visit .... This is a very cool museum worth supporting. I stop in to visit when I am in the area - you should as well. Main website @ http://www.lonepinefilmhistorymuseum.org/ Jim
  17. Agreed, Don't do anything to it. Don't move it. Put it up for sale " as is " .... Jim
  18. Sorry to disagree with you but ..... Anytime you transpot a vehicle - it should be with who is doing the work that you can talk on the phone with. That person should pick up your car & deliver it direct without transfer in an enclosed trailer. The hauler who took it to the transport hub was doing their job - it is up to the Buyer and/or Seller to make sure that parts are secured to a vehicle if it is being loaded on an open trailer ... You get what you pay for - sometimes you don't like what you get ..... Jim
  19. Indeed ! This guy built this Allis Drag Tractor - then he painted it purple just to p*ss off the purists ..... Jim
  20. Check the overall measured length of your enclosed trailer & motorhome for starters to make sure the combined length does not exceed the maximum length allowed in your state & any other states you plan on driving thru. Check your maunufacturer rating for the maximum tow capacity of your motorhome. Check your receiver hitch for the rated tow capacity. Jim
  21. The best way to search craigslist is to go to the local CL site you are looking to buy in - modify your search to show results from surrounding areas. Look under all items for sale - not just " cars for sale by owner " for example. Sometimes a car or auto parts will be listed in other categories like " Antiques ". JIm
  22. Before trying to lower the top - carefully clean it with a mild cleaner - then appy a fabric conditioner to it before trying to lower it. Take your time & use two people to gently lower it. Definitely transport it to it's new home in an enclosed trailer. Do not hand crank further withut removing the spark plugs & spraying fogging oil in each cylinder - then letting it sit overnight. If you have little or no experience going further than that - befriend someone who does or hire an experienced mechanic. Jim
  23. countrytravler .... Thanks for the kind words. I have hauled all types of big old cars. As has been mentioned earlier - the car has to be prepared for transpoprt by someone locally. Jim
  24. You are asking for advice from a public forum ... No one was there when you entered into the agreement to have your car worked on. Any auto repair contact should have in writing before work in undertaken: Scope of work Parts & labor required Authorization to repair If you didn't get that beforehand - you made a mistake. Jim
