  1. Check the overall measured length of your enclosed trailer & motorhome for starters to make sure the combined length does not exceed the maximum length allowed in your state & any other states you plan on driving thru. Check your maunufacturer rating for the maximum tow capacity of your motorhome. Check your receiver hitch for the rated tow capacity. Jim
  2. The best way to search craigslist is to go to the local CL site you are looking to buy in - modify your search to show results from surrounding areas. Look under all items for sale - not just " cars for sale by owner " for example. Sometimes a car or auto parts will be listed in other categories like " Antiques ". JIm
  3. Before trying to lower the top - carefully clean it with a mild cleaner - then appy a fabric conditioner to it before trying to lower it. Take your time & use two people to gently lower it. Definitely transport it to it's new home in an enclosed trailer. Do not hand crank further withut removing the spark plugs & spraying fogging oil in each cylinder - then letting it sit overnight. If you have little or no experience going further than that - befriend someone who does or hire an experienced mechanic. Jim
  4. countrytravler .... Thanks for the kind words. I have hauled all types of big old cars. As has been mentioned earlier - the car has to be prepared for transpoprt by someone locally. Jim
  5. You are asking for advice from a public forum ... No one was there when you entered into the agreement to have your car worked on. Any auto repair contact should have in writing before work in undertaken: Scope of work Parts & labor required Authorization to repair If you didn't get that beforehand - you made a mistake. Jim
  6. I am on the road towing every day. I have akways used Ford F350 CC Dually Trucks. Jim
  7. Yes there was a motor in the 7 passenger Pierce Arrow roller ... It weighed 6100 pounds - I know because I checked the weight when I scaled. My enclosed car hauler trailer is 34 feet long - it was loaded backwards because the front end alignment was way off. Jim
  8. I am on the road every day. I have always custom built my enclosed trailers based on my transport needs which have to be versatile because I transport many different vehicles year round in the lower 48 states. My recommendations for hauling a vehicle are .... Enclosed trailer Load & unload with wireless remote control electric winch Straight - not dropped axles - for road clearance and elimination of rear end trailer frame damage from hitting ground 7 foot minimum rear door Full size access door on curb side ( 6 feet wide by 5 feet tall minimum) Access entry door on driver side opposite curb side door This allows access to both sides of the vehicle - eliminates traditional driver side escape door Jim
  9. You might want to look at the video for the car hauler SnoCap. No way would I use that system to haul a car. Deck is too high - clearance is only 78 inches - one close pass to a tree on the side and your fabric canopy is burned toast. Loading ramps take up deck space - rear " door " operates with a rope & a zipper ? Jim
  10. So, You plan on putting a car that weighs 5400 pounds on a trailer & towing it ? That means the GVWR has to equal or exceed the combined weight of both the trailer and the vehicle. That means for a tandem axle trailer - each axle has to be 5400 pound rated minimum. Stopping a trailer is what matters - particularly in an emergency situation. Safe - controlled stopping is the most important important factor in the equation. 5400 pounds is a heavy vehicle. If it is a classic car - most likely it has a wide body - that makes it difficult to open & close the driver door without hitting the fender on most car hauler trailers. I have hauled with open & enclosed trailers - I will never transport on an open trailer again. It is too risky for the vehicle. Jim
  11. What is your tow vehicle ? What specific vehicle are you putting in/on the trailer ? What is the weather like when you are planning to tow ? Jim
  12. Hands down one of the best first person American Muscle Survivor narratives I have read online:Daily Driver American Muscle Survivor Jim
  13. 14. First, I assume those are your kids in the video ? Are they card carrying SAG members cause man can they act ! Second, Body metal was different back then - I doubt that can be massaged out without removing the inner door & trying to pop it out from the inside. Depending on the paint - it might crack. Best to go to a good body shop with experience on cars from that era.. I certainly do enjoy your videos Chris ! Jim

  16. My experience in transporting vehicles with tubed tires has shown than the majority of the time the tube can be inflated & the tire will hold air - sometimes the valve stem has to be tightened. Tubed tires will lose air over time. No harm in seeing if they will air up if that has not been attempted. Jim
  17. Scott, Unless the valve stems are rotted or broke - tires with tubes should air up and hold pressure at least long enough to load onto a trailer - I occasionally have to air up tubed tires - not a big deal. Have you had someone try to air them up ? Jim
  18. Barrett-Jackson Mandalay Bay AuctionMandalay Bay Resort & Casino Las VegasOctober 13th-15thI will be attending this year... If anyone else is going - let me know.Jim
  19. Chris, Great video ! I owned a 1962 Greenbrier Factor Camper - never should have sold it. Recently I photographed a very rare double rampside van - one of (3) made ! https://www.instagram.com/p/BKzM_WHh3SH/?taken-by=directenclosedautohauler Jim
  20. Donate them to a museum with the written stipulation they cannot be passed along & used to register vehicles. Jim
  21. If you pass along vehicle title(s) either by donation or sale - if those title(s) are used to register a vehicle by creating a serial number to match the one on the title - you are potentially liable for civil and/or criminal fraud. The only monetary value a vehicle title has is not as an " historical document " but as an illegal way to register a vehicle that has no title. Jim
  22. So .... You have it on a test stand so someone can hear it run ? If not - then even if it turns & is not locked up - that does not mean the block/heads are worth re-building. Put it on your local craigslist ..... Jim
  23. Leave the person behind the door alone. They don't want to sell their car. WTH happened to RESPECTING someone's property borders ? Jim
  24. An enclosed trailer does not have " wall depth " thick enough to benefit from spray in foam insulation. The exterior aluminum skin is thin & will deform easily. You cannot take home insulation methods & apply them to an enclosed trailer wall because an enclosed trailer wall is not an exterior residental home wall. If the OP wants to remove the interior wood panels - install rigid foam insulation - then re-install the wood sheeting ... Fine - but a waste of time & money. An enclosed trailer is designed for moving cars - not storing them in a climate controlled environment. You cannot economically control temperature & humidity in an enclosed car hauling trailer - they are not engineered for that purpose. Jim
