  1. Greetings men. Checked for 12 volts at the electric solenoid and its there . Can even hear a clicking sound of the solenoid when i remove and replace the plug to the tranny with 12 v applied. What i could not find was a vacuum source coming from the intake manifold to the tranny. Shouldnt there be a vacuum source as well as the 12 v to make the kick down work? Where would the vacuum port on the tranny be located? 1965 rivi gs. Thank you
  2. Check that all connections to the switch are clean and tight. Among other things, a bad connection will cause the switch to heat up. Good luck
  3. Got Dave at DAVES HEI setting up an extra oem distributor i have for hei. Want to try and keep original look under hood. Will let you know how it works out after install.
  4. Always liked that year grand prix. Best looking year they made in my opinion. Fast too! Barn find with 35k on odometer is one helluva score!
  5. Had the same problem on my 65gs after taking to a shop that i will never go to again. The ratcheting noise was because they put the wrong lube oil in YOU MUST use POSI OIL. You cannnot use standard rear end oil. After pitting the posi oil in mine the ratcheting noise was gone. It is a scary noise for sure!
  6. Makes sense Ed. At 70 mph in drive motor is at 3000 rpm. I have an era correct buick tach. Im thinking 70 mph in second rpm would be in the 4-5 k range.
  7. The manual states that at speeds below 70 mph the kick down switch will shift the tranny from third down to second gear. That seems like a pretty high threshold to go from third to second gear. What do you guys think and where do you have yours set at? Thanks
  8. Yes two that go to a common location but with separate spade receivers
  9. Hans the switch pitch SWITCH is a micro switch located on the verticle throttle linkage arm . It should come on just as you depress the gas pedal. Sorry cant help with a video or forum post but if im not mistaken, there is a diagram and explanation on how to adjust in the factory manual.
  10. Sorry i cant offer any help but wondering if its a factory ac system?
  11. Curious about the modification you mention. Any pictures? You may be on to something about the accelerater pump to the front carb. It does have a much lighter spring than the rear. Does not have as strong a stream as the rear.
  12. 100% in agreement with you steve. sorry man but not knowlegable enough to post pictures much less videos. I googled " CARTER AFB THROTTLE SHAFT BUSHING" and several videos came up. The one i found to be the best was by a man named HAROLD DEMES.
  13. I have owned this car since 2005. 1965 rivi gs. Up until today i always had to give the gas pedal a little tap to get the idle where it should be when i came to a stop.I finally did the throttle shaft bushing installation needed to fix the problem. At first i was a little hesitant to do it myself ,for fear of ruining the carb by not drilling perfectly straight . Its the original carb. But after watching a couple of youtube videos, i got the nerve up to give it a shot. I did both carbs.I took my time , was not hard at all with the right tools. Not only does it now return to proper idle speed when coming to a stop, the overall idle is also much better. There was alot of air getting by those sloppy throttle shafts holes as well as the linkage between the two carbs not being adjusted right. The car is even more of a joy to drive now. Next is hei ignition. Will let you guys know how that goes once its done.
  14. Very cool! Thanks winston
  15. Got pictures by any chance?
  16. Wow 300k , thats impressive! Is that on a fresh rebuilt engine or a never rebuilt engine? 401 ? Gives me hope for mine. Have what i think is over 130 k on mine,65 gs numbers matching, ( odometer does not work) never been rebuilt or even had the heads off. Still runs great!
  17. I like to crank the starter several short burst not not only fill the evaporated carb but more importantly to get some oil to all the moving parts before she fires. I do this until the oil pressure light goes out during cranking , then a couple of taps on the pedal and she fires right up .
  18. Get a small butane torch and heat the intake where the distributor shaft enters. While hot spay pb blaster penetrant on shaft where it enters the manifold. Have a fire extiguisher handy in case penetrant ignites. Allow to cool, check if it moves. Repeat if needed. This has always worked for me.
  19. That convertible 63 looks interesting.For sale ?
