  1. He did the antenna on my 65. Works better than it ever has and very fast turn around. Thanks Barney!
  2. Along with what Tom T said about soaking and tapping bolts, I applied heat to the bolts a few times. If you do that make sure to keep some kind of fire extinguishing agent near you. Your car will run, start and idle much better once you change out the chains. good luck
  3. If in fact it does have the original chain and gears ,i would change them to get rid of the nylon gears. I will also venture to say that you will notice a big improvement on all aspects of performance if you do in fact have the original timing gear set. That was my experience with my 65. Good luck
  4. Never sleeved a car engine but have sleeved a few 60's Harley cylinders to stock specs. Never had a problem with them.
  5. Call this man his name is mario , located in rancho cucamonga socal. He will have what you need. 909-786-5323
  6. White vinyl with burgundy mist was available. That's what my 65 is. Don't think they had leather as an option in 65 but I could be wrong.
  7. Just saw on news that kansas city is being hammered by tornados. I think ed ( rivnut) lives there. Hope all is well with you and yours ed. I am in l a but if there is anything i can do from here just let me know.
  8. Not trying to make it drive like a formula 1 . My suspension is tired , want to tighten it up. Thinking / hoping a certain brand shock and or bushings may be better than others. Not looking to change springs either.
  9. I would be interested to know what you guys did to improve the handleing. Thanks
  10. I will try to do the title of " de man " justice Ed but can't promise anything 😂 . I plan to mimic the set of deep rallys with beauty rings that were on that beautiful black riviera that was posted on this forum sometime back. Had been trying to figure out how he had turned 6" rallys into 7" rallys until Tom mentioned they came in 7". I'm guessing that what the owner of the black riviera used. I will be using 1" spacers as he did .
  11. Thank you much Ed. Will the ralley wheels from a 1971 estate wagon fit on a 1965 rivi? I know i would need a spacer due to deeper offset .
  12. Do they look like the 65 rivi ralleys? Will the 65 rivi ralley wheel center cap fit on the estate wagon ralley wheels ?will the wheel itself fit on a 65 rivi? thanks for the info SBRMD.
  13. Tom , also wondering which rally wheels came in 7" widths. Thanks
  14. Check that headlights open, electric windows work, if equiped with cruise control check if it works along with all other accesoryies and lights. I would also check how well it returns to proper idle by lightly stepping on the gas pedal and slowly releasing foot pressure off it. If it stays idled high after fully releasing gas pedal check dual quad linkage setup make sure its not hacked together and that everything is from factory including carbs. It may still not reurn to proper idle even if the car still has all the proper parts, ( linkage, carbs) but will be easier to correct than if you did not have all the proper parts. Good luck
  15. Dual quad is correct in suspecting the wiring. There are a few " factory junction points that tend to get oxidized causing a bad electrical connection. That was the case with my car when my starter acted up. These factory starters seem to be pretty stout. I crank on mine a lot on morning first start until the oil pressure light goes out. Have not had to rebuild yet, still engages and cranks good. You need to go to a competent auto electric shop and have them look at it. If the tech is not working off of a factory wiring diagram I would not waste my time with them.good luck
  16. good looking out dualquad. They wont be getting any of my business!
  17. I drive my rivi year round even when it rains. I am of the opinion that we only have so many miles of driving during our lifetimes so i try to spend as many as i can in my rivi. But if it snowed here i would i would not drive it in the snow. Not trying to preserve this car for any future owners.
  18. ^^^^^I used that oil in the past and my motor didnt like it. one tappet would have a hard time pumping up during winter morning start ups.
  19. Been using Mobil 1 high milage ADVANCED FULL SYNTHETIC 5w-30w. It has 900 ppm zinc according to Mobil 1 website. Based on knowledge gained from this great website 900 ppm is a tad low. I also suspected that my valve train was a bit noisy due to the 5-30w being too thin. So I wanted a minimum 1200 ppm on the zinc and max. 40wt. Mobil 1 turbo diesel full synthetic 10-40 fit the bill. So first I did the transmission fluid in crankcase flush then changed the oil using the turbo diesel 10-40. The results are that my valve train has quieted down SIGNIFICANTLY especially at first morning start up. The oil has a API rating that has the SN,SM rating which makes it ok to use in gasoline engines.
  20. Thanks for the clarification ! I also think that is a great idea to take it to a balancer shop to try and duplicate.
  21. My bad , poorly worded question. Can a used harmonic balancer from one 401 work on another 401 without any adverse affects ?
  22. So the harmonic balancers between 401's and 420's are interchangable? I was under the impression that they were not being these motors are balanced with the harmonic balancer. Good to know they are interchangable.
