  3. As far as I know.... these Chrysler spokes have never been painted. This is a 47000 original mile, CJ 6. Lowest priced model for Chryslers 1930 line up. I'm going with this combination... but freshened up a bit. Bill H
  4. I removed and cleaned the sand out of the throat of my Carter BB-1. I was blowing out the cracks and crevices under the cowl of the Chrysler and the upturned throat of the carburetor was a "catch all" for the sand blasting left overs from years ago. Most definitely don't want sand on top of the pistons. Lucky I saw it before I started the motor. Don't want scored cylinder walls. Bill H
  5. Heard of this one. The motor in a 40 Ford truck starts knocking in the middle of no were. Drain the oil and keep the oil. Drop the connecting rod or main bearing cap that is causing the knock. Cut a piece of your leather belt to fit. Soak in oil. Place in/on the worn babbet bearing cap. Tighten it up. Replace oil pan. Put oil back in the motor. It'll get ya home. Bill H
  6. The owner of a car lot told his mechanic to dump two or three cans of STP into the oil of/for a knocking motor in a car. Saw that remedy at a used car lot were I grew up. The car lot is still in business today. I NEVER bought anything from them. What I heard and saw spoke volumes for the car lot and owner reputation. Bill H

When I was about 16 years old I witnessed first hand, a mechanic at the Esso station I worked at....... sprinkle Ajax or Comet powdered cleaner, (abrasives), into the carburetor of a 55 Ford, to get the rings to seat after an overhaul and the customer complaining about his car smoking and using oil. Don't ask me if it worked or not. Bill H

  9. Please send me the contact for the windshield riser. I was trying to invent something from modern, foreign car, window risers that would fit..... and raise the windscreen. I'm sure I'm not the only one with "exploded" pot metal. Thanks a million. Bill H
  10. The handle on the windshield mechanism is identical to the cranks and door handles from my 30 Chrysler CJ. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the wooden header with the raise/lower, workings/mechanisms. My gears and levers that raise the windshield are made of pot metal and are is about 10 pieces. Your gear system doesn't look like mine. Don't get rid of it. If you decide you don't want it, I'll take it. I might be able to make it work on my header which has a different shape. Bill Harmatuk
  11. Keiser You need to buy the CJ weather you can afford it or not. I / you could have it running in an hour. I was thinking about selling gold, silver coins, Civil War artifacts, a pistol, 2, 22 rifles,and a metal detector, to raise money for half the car and go into savings for the rest. (I'll save the loot to finance my new interior). Then I think about the brakes, fuel system, the running boards, oil leaks / seals, tires and a place to store it. I better leave it alone and concentrate on the 47,000 original mile CJ that I have that is 85% ready to paint. My wife hates "junk" cars too. Bill H
  12. This car in the picture is a 1930 Chrysler CJ-6 exactly like the one that I am presently restoring. It is pristine and un adulterated. It also has the original splash pans in the engine compartment. They are full of nuts and acorns in the picture. Being that the splash pans are still intact shows that the CJ never had any real maintenance issues with the motor because they were always the first thing taken off the car for easy access. That clean, un cluttered firewall is typical to the CJ, also. She looks ALL original. I bet that blanket is a seat cover for the seat and not a repair. MY WIFE SAID.... NO!!! Bill H

  14. Very nice car! Wow. I'm in the middle of a frame off restoration on a 1930 Chrysler, CJ- 6 4 door. Thanks so much for the pictures. I'm with Keiser. Does it really need a restoration?? Its easier to take it apart than it is to put it back together. Clean it up. Make it reliable and safe and drive it. I love unrestored cars like yours. So do other people. Bill Harmatuk

  16. I lovingly sanded and wire wheeled the inside door pillars on my 30 Chrysler CJ down to bare metal. I used a stiff, small wire wheel on a 1/4 inch drill so / as to not damage the body / trim nail heads. Then D-A ed the flat areas with 80 grit. Wiped them down with Ospho. Slow and tedious. Back home at 12:30 am. Won't be long.... I'll be looking for paint. Bill H

  18. Thats my car. Thanks for the pictures. Lets put it this way. I have 1500.00 in running boards. Repo. inside handles and cranks that don't match are 1200.00. (one pot metal door handle was 65.00 on E Bay) A rear fender in good shape is worth 450.00... all day long. I'll give you 300.00 for the transmission. I'll give you 200.00 for the radiator shell. BB-1 or correct carburetor... you will have 200 - 400.00 in it. I have 450.00 in master and brake cylinder work. Thats a complete CJ-6. NICE car. If it were on the East Coast... I'd give you 6000.00 sight unseen... may-be. You need that car to round out your collection. Bill H
  19. You say its all steel?? If it is all steel a lot of work went into it. I would nave bought it as a play toy. I think its a neat car and you need to finish it and post some pictures when you get a paint job on her. I would love to know how and who smoothed the thing ... if its steel. Was the smoothing done with lead. I hope you do find out it was a George Barrus car. Do you have the hood?? Neat car. Bill H
  20. Thanks so much for the reply. I'm at the point that I have to start thinking about a color other than black for my 30 CJ 6, Chrysler. I'll do my home work and see what Chrysler used that is close to what you have, for a CJ-6, 4 door. I'm leaving my spokes natural. Great contrast and I'm sure they were originally varnished wood.
