  1. Thanks, John, for the pictures. Beautiful automobile. There is a lot of similarities to my Chrysler CJ-6. And. What color is the engine block in the 29 Desoto?? I'm going to ask about the color of my Chrysler CJ block, one day. It appears that the CJ was a bluish silvery green. Bill Harmatuk
  2. This post / thread, is from 2008. I had a gentleman e-mail me and ask the exact location of the car. It was sitting behind a chain link fence on Hwy. 70 West in Kinston, N.C. It dis- appeared not long afterwards. I hope it went to a good home. Bill H
  3. NICE, NICE, NICE. Great looking Dodge. Bill H
  4. Try to post pictures of the cowl lights that you have. Some one will help ID them and they also might be interested in the other cowl lights that you have. Including me. Just saying. Good luck with the car and keep her original. (if you can). Bill H 1930 Chrysler CJ-6
  5. Nice car. Like I always said. If I was a millionaire, cars would be my downfall. If I had the money that pretty Oldsmobile would be headed south on I=95. I hope it finds a loving home away from hot rodders. Bill H
  6. I had, (sold on E-Bay), a brass carburetor similar to yours, that I wish I still had hanging, on the wall of the garage. Nice patina and hard to find. They make a pretty wall hanger. Bill H
  7. Some one is playing a prank on you. It might be like what we did to a friend of mine that was always bragging about how good on gas his car was in 1973. We or one of us would slip out to the parking lot every afternoon and top his tank off with gas we stole from the company gas pump. After about a week or two the guy almost lost his mind. His car was NOT using any gas and every time he got in it it was full. Bill H
  8. I've never made any mistakes. My wife told me once. "You're not perfect." I said. "Yes I am" She said. "You're not perfect" I said. 'Yes I am." She said. "No you're not." I said. "Damn near" Bill H
  9. I contacted the seller of the tags on E-Pay. He sent me to Roadside Relics in Australia. Roadside Relics has the Dodge Desoto tags but the fellow that was making them has since passed. They only have a few Dodge and Desoto left. Roadside gave me the name and address of a fellow in New Zealand that makes tags. Lets see what happens. Bill H
  10. Where can I purchase a repo or new tag for the fire wall of my CJ-6. Other 29, 30, 31, Chrysler models are the same, I assume. There are Dodge and Desoto of the same style, (No Chrysler), on E Pay from Australia, but have no way of contacting seller. Thanks in advance Bill Harmatuk
  11. With a small learning curve and the money and TIME you spent with / on, your PC you could have bought a nice, new, Mac. Mine is 6 years old and NEVER a problem. I forgot what windows actually is. Macs just get updates for free. Just Saying. Bill H
  12. I'm closer than you are , this time, John. And my wife is going out of town. I can be in Fort Bragg in about half a heart beat. Bill H I'm going to try to give some good advise.
  13. "Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around." Nice car. I'd love to sit in the back seat. That is what I wanted when I was a kid. What is the wheel base on that baby doll.?? Bill H
  14. What First Born said. You are spot on. Bill H
  15. Yes it is a wrench for opening 55 gallon drums. The small, blade end of the handle is for the small bung. (3/4" pipe threads) The large end for the larger bung on the barrel. (2" Pipe) I think. On some barrels you use the blade on the large end, or the crown / spanner on the large end, for removing the bung. In other words.... a multi tool that won't create a spark. Age un-known. I was an oiler in a large factory in a former life. A tribologist, wanna be. Bill H
  16. Just measured my 1930 CJ 6 lenses. 9 5/16 in diameter. Part number 11471. I keep them in my gun safe so they won't get broken. I have another pair that are still in the buckets for a 66 but they are in storage. Bill Harmatuk
  17. What color is your motor?? Bill H
  18. Thanks for the picture. Now I know that my engine color is close to correct. I am not removing my Engine for painting. I am pretty sure I can detail the motor with the same amount of effort and results as removing it. This could all change. Bill Harmatuk 30 Chrysler CJ-6
  19. Make sure that the main lead going to the center of the distributer cap is making contact on the coil end and the cap end. Ask me how I know all this stuff. People used to say that if I didn't have to work on it... I wouldn't own it. Bill H
  20. Take the top off the distributor. Gently pry open the points and run a small piece of very fine, folded, sand paper between the contacts. An ignition file works well but most people don't have one any more. While you have the cap off, run the sand paper over the brass or metal parts, (contacts) on the rotor and clean any carbon off. Look under the distributor cap and if there is any carbon deposits on the spark plug posts, give them a few scrapes with the screw driver. Hope this solves your problem. Bill H
  21. From what I understand, bumpers were an option on early cars. My holes are rom 5/8 to 3/4 diameter. They are not hour glass shaped. I have never had the front and back bumpers assembled since I have owned the car. I'm with Kaiser. When You assemble the bumpers with center medallions and pre-stressed, I don't think you will have a worry. My car is a 1930 CJ- 6. The 30, 66 was a little nicer car but basically the same. Hope this helps. Bill Harmatuk
  22. My favorite and most fun car was a 63 Volkswagon. The car had been in the water, once, to see if it would float, like the commercial. It had been run through a local store window when the brakes failed. I bought it for 125.00 less front sheet metal. I bought another for 10.00, less motor, from a friend. Swapped front sheet metal and was good to go. Later I along with a friend, rebuilt the 40 hp motor in high school with a big bore kit, 3/4 cam and a header from JC Whitney. Eddy Brame, who owned an 11 second Volkswagon, (in the 1/4 mile), bored the jet in the stock carburetor. I forgot to mention that in auto mechanics, my friend and I, PORT, POLISHED and CC ed the stock heads. Added a Hurst shifter. Fastest Volkswagon in New Bern in 1971. Then I spent a month in San Diego CA and every where I looked there were Baja beetles. When I returned home, I promptly took a wax pencil and drew out the Baja Beetle shape across the back of my car, shortened the rear fenders, and jumped on it with metal cutting saw and side grinder. A set of J-60 Baja tires and adapters, dune buggy header, from JC Penny, and I was the man. Only Baja beetle in New Bern. It would lift a front wheel thanks to the solid motor mounts I made. To make a long story short... a bottle of wine was the demise of a 19 year olds hot rod and first and only night spent in jail. I think of it as a learning experience. Fun car made from basic air flow theory. Bill Harmatuk
