  1. Jack, Congrats on the new ride. You should get many trouble-free miles out of it. Your car reminds me of my '68 V100 2-door sedan. I bought mine direct from the NY Telephone Company in Buffalo in 1974. The princely price of $150.00 included a basic Earl Scheib-quality paint job to disguise its origin (company policy at the time). Enjoy!
  2. I've seen some really clever surveillance vehicles at GSA auctions. There was a bogus NYC taxi, and a van done up like a telephone company vehicle except the interior was outfitted as a command center complete with periscope going through the roof. They even had a beat-up looking Chevy step-van equipped with paneled walls and carpeting. What I remember most about that one was the spy ports on the side were integrated with the 'bookstore' lettering....the two 'O's in bookstore opened for binoculars. It also had a note near the driver's seat: 'Do not use government credit card to purchase fuel'. I once bought a car from the DEA that had 4 different registrations in the glove compartment. One was the 'official' DEA New York registration, and the others had bogus names and addresses. They all had the same plate number, VIN, and expiration date.
  3. I've attended government surplus auctions and bought vehicles from them since I was a senior in high school in 1970. The auctions have a reserve price for every vehicle they sell, and if they don't attain their price the vehicle is either re-run later that day or held over to the next auction date. There are buyers' fees for most every auction nowadays and you have to pay in full on the day of the sale. Some auctions have staff members of the local DMV on-site to process title transfers or issue temporary tags for you to get home. Take advantage of the opportunity to inspect the vehicles because these are all 'as-is where-is' sales. Sometimes defects will be listed in the auction catalog but many times they aren't. In my experience, the Fed auctions have the newest/cleanest cars (also the highest prices), followed by State agencies, then county/local sales. The government agencies have a lot of experience selling cars (a big sale like the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania sells more cars in a day than many small dealers sell in a year). They won't be giving anything away. Good luck and keep us posted on your adventures.
  4. One more theft scam I've heard about is a 'buyer' paying for a vehicle entirely by PayPal then claiming the item is mis-described. They get a refund from PayPal and keep the car.
  5. Just bumped into this post. If you haven't found it yet, jeeppatriot.com is an active and helpful website for your Patriot. We have a 2014 Patriot and followed the instructions below to get the build sheet: Copy and paste the link below (minus quotes) into your browser , then replace the xxxx.... with your 17 digit VIN and you should get your vehicle's build sheet in PDF format. Letters are case sensitive. Don't include hyphen's."http://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/BuildSheetServlet?vin=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" Hope you find this useful. Regards, Harold
  6. I've got an NOS passenger's side chrome grille upright (it sits directly behind the right front bumper guard). If you're interested let me know.
  7. Good looking car. When the Calais came out I was selling new Oldsmobiles and they generated a lot of interest.
  8. Try splicing-in a coolant hose heater and warming up the block and head. The small expansion may help.
  9. I read that plumber's putty has the same composition as clay bars. Use at your own risk!
  10. We visited America's Car Museum in 2019. It was very nice and we were impressed with the presentation. We'll try to visit Marymount together with him on our next trip.
  11. My son lives in Seattle and would like to know about car shows in the area (dates and locations). He doesn't have a car but would attend if he could get there by public transportation. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks, Harold
  12. Offer to add a couple of bucks to cover the PayPal fee. If that idea is rejected, I'd pass on the deal.
  13. Instrument panel voltage regulator p/n 2258413 fits many Chrysler products from the 1960's-1980's. This is an NOS part with its original shelf worn box. The part itself has some tarnish from sitting. $30.00 postpaid in the lower 48 states. Send a PM!
  14. NORS EIS K3833 stop light switch for 65-66 Chrysler, Dodge Polara and Monaco, and Plymouth Fury. Fits cars with power brakes. The box is somewhat beat-up and only says '1965' on it, but later versions of the box show both years. $20.00 postpaid in the lower 48 states. Add $1.00 to cover PayPal fee if needed. Send a PM if you're interested.

  16. I've seen some very nice Maaco paint jobs. Makes me wonder how places like Maaco can buy the materials, do the prep (granted it's minimal in some cases), spray the paint, and then have profit left over. All for a fraction of the $12K quoted for the materials alone.
  17. I made my own universal tow bar by welding tabs on an adjustable bumper hitch (which was two clamps that slid on a beam....like rental places used). I clamped the hitch to the front bumper of the car I was towing, then used the tabs to bolt a VW tow bar to the hitch. It worked well for local short distance tows. Many years ago, a friend and I tow-barred a '46 Plymouth from the Jersey Shore to Western New York with a full-size Chevy pickup. The Plymouth would sway very badly and pull the rear of the pickup with it. We made the trip OK but it was a scary ride.
  18. Type the VIN into Google, see if you get any results. Worth a try.
  19. UPDATE: I checked eBay and found this door skin listed: 354666958752 Hope it helps!
  20. Walt, Thanks for clarifying. We came to Studnick's from Brooklyn (East New York section...like the TV show!). My dad would get stuff for our trusty '52 Plymouth from them.
  21. Just curious...was their company called "Studnick's" on Merrick Road near the Cross Island Parkway? If yes, I went there several times when I was a kid.
  22. Have you pinned-down the door skin part number? You could then Google it or do an eBay search. You might gain more info that way.
  23. The WPC News is a publication of the Walter P. Chrysler Club. This issue of the magazine features the 1966 Plymouth and includes historical narrative, production figures, and model and option listings of the Fury, Belvedere, and Valiant series. It also has several ad reprints and car illustrations. If you're into '66 Plymouths you'll enjoy this magazine. I got this magazine by subscription and it's in very nice condition from our smoke-free, pet-free home. $14.00 including mailing to the lower 48 states. Best contact is by PM. Thanks for looking! Harold
  24. Very nice original first edition owner's manual for your '66 Fury. Has slight creasing on the back cover near one of the staples. Check the photos for more details. $23.00 includes USPS mailing in the lower 48 States.
